    The tyres are 235 x 40 x 18

    So compared to the 215 x /14 with a overall O.D of =635 mm

    And the 18's being = 653 mm O.D

    18 MM bigger

That's gunna upset the speedo ?

Didn't make any noticeable difference on either car for me.

Are the spacers no good ?
Or just more shit to deal with?

Spacers are fine in my opinion (some hate them for various reasons, each to their own), however they may possibly void your insurance if you have an accident, and yes just more shit to deal with  and another cost to add, unless you got them free with the wheels.

  2. And here's my brothers ed running 35mm spacers and ba offset wheels.

    Edit:

I just noticed in this pic it doesn't look like he's got the spacers on the rear, so they sit in and look kinda tubbed but still work, but you get the idea.

  3. As stated already they are BA gtp wheels, but being they came off an EL they are most likely aftermarket copies in the correct offset for pre AU vehicles. If not they are the original ford wheels in the wrong offset for falcons befor AU's an the EL was running spacers in which case if you grab the spacers and use them on the xe you will have no issues.

Stud pattern is the same on all falcons (excepts for the xp's back i think?) just the offset changed with the au.

Basically if they fit on an el they'll fit the xe. I've had dark argent typoon copies in pre au offset on my xf and ed.

  4. I'm leaning more towards charcoal centres. I like the contrast against the bright yellow.1fc50d88f8abb5ed488f07038291758f.jpg

Either way can't go wrong. (i'd still go gold... but i do have a gold wheel fetish, i just love gold wheels for some reason.)

  5. Not experienced in it, but i know the stock brakes with good rotors and bendex ult's which is a semi high temp pad would stand up to road race for about 4-6 laps at wakefield. Which is about 8 minutes of punishing the brakes before the pads failed. And thats 100 times worse than what you could ever safely do to them on the street.

But anyway, the brakes maintained good authority over the wheels for that, Running 17's with 245/45's from memory.

If you go a larger wheel you will eventually overpower the brakes, ie you cannot get enough friction on the brake to overpower the torque applied by the wheel, you'll have to stand harder on the brakes. And you may not get the same stopping power as you would with a smaller wheel diamater.

I have no idea how big is too big...

To expand a bit. You have 2 things going on here. The authority or bias of the brakes and the amount of heat they can dissipate.

The heat is generated from speed vs weight and the inertia of the wheels.

the authority is the the rotor diameter vs wheel diamater and the type of friction material used in the pad and rotor.

You have too much speed and weight you'll make a lot of heat. And something will fail.

Higher temp pads, more surface area (width, venting type and dimater) of the rotor or better airflow (ducting) can be used to cool.

If your brake system is functioning properly, you put your foot on the brake till you cannot push any harder and cannot lock up the wheels. You dobt have enough stopping power. You can reduce traction (booooo) reduce wheel diamater, increase rotor diamater or Increase friction coefficent(pad and/or rotor material). To make sure you have enough authority to utilise all that traction you have.

    This is my understanding.

Thanks for the detailed reply mate.

  6. yep thats right but i cant find one,the wrecker wanted $550 for one i thought that was a bit crazy, dellow or the rod shop can do a new one for about $650 even crazier,i will keep looking for a 2nd hand one if anyone will sell one.

I've got one, but your a long way from me...

  7. Yes very nice mate, only thing I would change is a bit more low in the rear.

Did you diy the strips, you can see overlap in the close up, neat though. Very nice work if so, was thinking of having a go with some cheap pinstriping tape on my xf.

  8.

check out mine were done, loads easier and not mods to diff or top mounts needed

    IMG_20160413_0739551_zpsqfcah3os.jpg

The bottom eyelets bolt straight upto the original shocker mount location with spacers each side to centre em.

The top have a bracket  around the eylet and a bolt going upwards.

    Awsome!

Where and how much? Gonna have to get me some!
