Nath 1,975 Posted January 10, 2015 Hey guys just wiring up my new head unit - piggybacking off the old radio wiring (base model no cassette). Need to identify some wires - 3 pin plug to back of radio coming from behind the console. Black - earth? Blue w/ red stripe Blue w/ white stripe Black w/ green stripe If anyone knows off hand what these are that would make life much easier. Cheers!
VDO 124 Posted January 10, 2015 Hi Nath. The radio wiring should come from the main loom behind where the radio mounts. I don't know what the one coming from the console is for. The wires you're looking for are: Black: Neg/Ground. Yellow/black; Accessory power 12v +. Blue/red: Lighting 12v + You should be able to pick up a 12v + constant for your stereo from the clock wiring just below, I think the wire is light green with yellow trace. You can test it to be sure as long as it supplies power when the ignition is off. 1 Nath reacted to this
SLO247 1,713 Posted January 10, 2015 I'll look in the factory manual later when I can. Unless its sorted by then. If you have a multimeter use that. Probably acc power, illumination feed, ground and maybe constant power if they had it. Would be in the loom somewhere as the clock would have needed it. 1 Nath reacted to this
Nath 1,975 Posted January 10, 2015 All sorted thanks guys. Saved by the old man - just did the multimeter trick. None of the wiring diagrams in either of my two manuals were any good. Go figure.
SLO247 1,713 Posted January 10, 2015 So what were they?
Nath 1,975 Posted January 10, 2015 From memory, on the 3 pin plug: Black was earth One for accessory power One to the light switch for the backlight Can't remember what the other one was. Constant power we got from the main fuse box/main power cable as there was none there. Should have wired up the clock too but we ran out of daylight and it started to rain so that'll have to be another day.
