I used half a cup of soluble oil (for machining), when the car radiator got a bit crappy. Leave it in for a day and then flush the system out and all the muddy crap would come out with it. I'm talking older cars here, leaves the cast iron and radiator like new. Looks like milk when added to water. It was free for me also as Dad had an engineering company.

Search google for c4 vs fmx. There's a thread on it somewhere.

A lot has been said of the fmx for strength. But from memory it'll be on its limit. Second the c6. Although big dollar c4's will take 650 easy. There's a lot of power lost through the c6 though from a previous thread I saw a month ago. I'm at 400hp with mine and a pretty much stock but overhauled fmx with 2200 stall. No dramas yet. Although the whole car has been on stands for a few years lol.

High output had solid cam. I like the sound of solid cammed motors. And wouldn't mind a bit of adjustment on the lash every now and again.

Another nice story to compliment a few coldy's.

Must still be some tachometer dash's around. I think the old f100's shared them too. Might have to wait and see what pops up.

I had a td Corty rally pack in the eighties. Engine had a slight cam in it, a top loader a twin system. Carb was original. Went like the clappers and sounded awesome. I know it's a lighter car but I agree with 78gxl's suggestion. Long live the logs !

Or scrape a bit of paint off an inconspicuous area. I did that with a van a few years ago.

yokes are different, FMX is 31 spline and the C4 is 28 splineThanks karts.

Yep, what he said ^ ^ ^Why the change, you looking for less weight ?
When done right c4's are a lot tougher and performance components are easily available. Will probably go for arrow or dart block next year with 3v's. Looking for around 400 at the wheels, but that is another story. Just thinking the fmx will be on its threshold with that setup. And the weight is another issue I guess. More power is lost through fmx than c4 from what I have searched.

I have a 351 fmx and 9" in the XC ute. I'll be changing to a tough c4 during the rebuild. Are the props different? What about the crossmembers. Was told the fmx has 31 spline output. Is this different to c4?

Ok... Session closed, good food for thought fella's.

The most important thing is people like us. in the know...........would know. It's just a value add too.

That's what I'm going to do with my XB GS Panno - get an Arrow or Todd Buttermore, or similar repro cleveland block. Then stamp it with my original engine/VIN number. (maybe with an extra prefix/digit on the end, to denote it's repro origin.)
Some dope put an American F-truck engine in my panno.
I rooted my Sheila in the back of an xb gs 302 pano, gold it was. 1984 was the year..…man what a year that was. Stamping idea sounds good, like that !

Had no intention of illegally changing engine number on a different block. If I don't have any luck I'll go alloy, dart, world or arrow block. Nothing like a matching no's gs v8 ute though. Then again, matching or not, it'll never be worth as much as a coupe or gt. Just a personal thing I guess.

Ring your local rego branch and ask if they can do a search for the last registered owner of the engine and contact them on your behalf (they won't give out contact details due to privacy laws). Vicroads in the past have done this and they contact the current owner with a request to sell the engine if it is currently not in a vehicle. A mate had this done and the guy who owned the engine agreed to sell it back on the proviso he was given another standard block to build up. This was a fair few years ago now so I don't know if they do it anymore. Thanks XM, will ring Vic roads, I bought it 5 years ago in ballarat. It's worth a try I guess.

arrow block looks good, I've another 12 months to ponder and plan.

You would have to know one of the MIB's at the rego office. I don't think anyone else can search for an engine number, as no-one else has a database.Chances are, the block has been turned into a 351, melted in a furnace, or at simsmetal.
Buy some number stamps, and find a milling machine......
Sorry mate, anyone else ???
Have got the milling machine and stamps but thats a noticeable way of doing it. I guessed I'd be hitting a brick wall with this one.

Ok..... What are the chances of finding my original 302c block. Are there any sites or departments I can go to? The last owner had a 400m and c6. He told me when he bought it off the original owner it had a reco motor in it. I have the details of the old boy who bought it brand new in 1977, but can't get any info on his whereabouts. I'd imagine he is about 106 years old by now. Surely there is a government department that will do a search. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

It will cost more to bead blast it, you will end up with a better finish though. I stripped one once and semi polished it. Came up alright but took a while.
