I did know you built that car Pro but you are the only one I really know of that has done supercharging with any real success. And with your current position being turbo's are simple, cheap and fairly easy (which I agree with) that was the reason behind my statement. Someone like yourself is really going to be one of a very few people that are going to be able to make the supercharger work. Also the obvious cost of a forged bottom end on top of head work and then blower kit, if you were starting from scratch would be $15k all sorted surely. I for one would love to do a blown crossflow but that is going to have to wait until I win lotto or stubble on a bag full of cash.
Thats why I said NA or turbo as both have been done quite a few times and parts are going to be fairly easy to get which means a bit cheaper. The turbo route is always going to make more horsepower in the end, and it really comes down to want you want from the car as to which way you go. A good powerful and reliable turbo setup isn't going to cost substantially more than a good NA build but it can produce substantially more power, albeit in a narrow power band with not very good street driveability. There is always trade off when going this crazy on an engine
I think most have or will not do it as you have to make it all. I wanted a roots blown 250 cortina as i had one with a triple webered 250 in it (now under the bench in the shed) When i moved to victoria it stopped the idea for a fair few years as i run off the rails and built other cars that where not on the master plan

where did you buy all the pulleys and kit from or did you make them ? i no aussie speed does one, also did this car have p/steer or air ?
Its all been made even the blower snout is the drive system jeff made and mick made the blower manifold these guys know there stuff when it comes to blown and good guys
Auspeed have been making there kit from about the time i started showing my setup on forums. You kind of have to wounder where there idea came from?. as far as i know they have not made a kit yet
The car still had power steer and althow it did not run aircon there is no reason you could not run it

Look @ the speakers on the rear deck...FFS Dave. Don't need your head ?
where there the whole time i owned it and still there now? even the roady bloke was fine with it

Wagoon the only reason you have not seen big numbers out of a blown engine is not many people have done a good one. mine has made 400hp on pump fuel on 12 pounds on a super basic solid engine. Jeff Ramsey had a bit to do with mine back then and that setup was built to do 500hp, my issue was it was a stock rod engine so we never pushed it past 5800 that engine would have turned to 6800 but a stock rod engine would never put up with that under boost. id already smashed 3 engines NA at those revs it was never going to do it both me and jeff knew that but a forged good rod engine was out of my budget back then
That blower on my silver XF would have made around 300rwhp it would lay 245 tyres on the ground in top gear and you did not have to rev it past 5000rpm the TQ that thing made was decent and that was a stock engine with a 218 camtech that car would have beaten my ghia easy and in a blaze of tyre smoke as well
i dont think you where a mamber of Xfalcon when i had this car but heres a picture of it

As said the solid will be the stronger cam but the trade off is you have to work on it. im lazy these days I only have 3 solid engines these days its just to hard to spend 35 minutes adjusting the rockers
Then theres a roller where you can bang the valve on and off the seat trade off for that cam is the cost. is it worth it? -
I never dumped the pipes in my corty but the drone you can stop by stepping the pipe size down at the back
ive tried hotdogs and ive found they make the drone deeper id be keen to hear anyone elses thorts as well -
I did mine for 3k first time with less shiny bits then it has now. you will never build a Na engine for that coin that makes the the 249hp and 570nm mine makes ill get that to about 300 I think once I can control timing and it will not hold the valves open at more then 12psi its a dead stock $200 engine. I will say ive spent a fair bit on its new engine but that's not in the car
you can build a turbo 400hp crossy that works with all the bolt ons for about 8k you will not have to rev it past 5000 it will last and will make 300nm on a NA engine and its torque that pushes a car, mine pulls like a freight train in a 1700+kg car with 2.77s and unlike a big solid cam na engine I can drive it anywhere and not have to care. a big 250@50 + cam 250 will be a pig unless it has 3.9 or so gears and you will not want to drive a car with that sort of gear ratio to far and if its auto it will need min a 3500convertor and that will be a heat pump the engine will be doing heaps of revs if you want to do more then 80kmh
im not anti NA but ive been there and still have my big engine would I bother putting my $$$$ engine into a car when I can do the same thing with a stock $200 engine? No. these engines are made for boost so go buy a windmill
but if your set on NA come here with 6500 bucks you can have mine big solid cam 250 full built engine in the bag made 240 untuned hp more if you tuned it and its brand new and come with ignition system fuel system and the webers it will turn 6300rpm this engine will need a 4k convertor to work well if you want to race it but on the street it will bang the tyres in all gears and the sound of the webbers is almost as cool as a turbo "almost"
but like everyone else says what is it you want to spend and how fast you want to go?

Don't build boost, stock engine with a windmill. killer wasp and enough torque to rip a tree out of the ground and no revs so it will last forever
if id known what I know now my crossy would be doing 800hp not the 320ish I was NA there poo and you have to spend to much to make them hold together good while there going they just never last if your trying to rev them
a bloke at rocket said to me years ago when I was buying flywheel bolts "stop trying to rev it, boost and less revs" man how right that bloke was I should buy him a cookie

camtech cams was 308 bucks 2 weeks ago when I got one so that's fair enough crow was 380 so camtech it was
-
forget the cam boost it
but if you must cam it iver run a 214 214 crow with a 220impco and it worked well but if id known what I know now I would have boosted that as wellAndo81 and wagoon reacted to this -
Decent truck mate I work on a few of these for a bloke such clunk and rattlers but they keep on keeping on
I did one a few years back me and a mate did it I put in all the time and bought another truck for the tray and he as it turns out only does shit for money and sold it 5 seconds after I finished it I did not even get the money for the tray backDyllan187 reacted to this -
The flatter feel is state of tune the engine has lost tq somewhere in the power range but you will find if it sorted as a package it will make up for it else where
by SV you mean commondore?

A forged 4340 crank
-
marks snaped the front of these cranks a few times now althow it says theren not to be used for a tow truck and big aircon systems he now runs a steel crank and no issues
id just run a steel crank how much more is the cost? its very littlerobbie reacted to this -

I have been down this road and been 250 rod and 200 rod combos with my engine there was no real gain that we could see on the dyno or in the car for that matter with 262@50 cam and 4 barrel I never tyred it with webers
I just sold 2 200 rod engines people think its better and in something like rob has it is, on a engine that does not turn past 6200 theres no need the 250 rod will put up with it and love you long time
can you but the rings for the 200 rod pistons again? I have a set of new 200 rod pistons in the shed ive never done anything with cause you cant seem to get the ring sets for them anymore so I bought these to nick the ring set for the my engine that I killed a piston ring

I cant see a issue with 0 guage I have 0 in the towtoy the ghia turbo corrty and all the v8 cortys and never had a issue
the only thing I would run a starter relay the ghia never had one and it would start dead cold but hot it would not crank
I run my power cable straight to my starter but run a busbar under the left side of the car to run the different things most as you have already talked about
run a extra earth from the engine to the body XEs already have one off the bellhousing but I ran another one cause if it does not have a good ground it will use my B&M cable as onewagoon reacted to this -
Why do you need one? ive had/have touns of tough crossys and the only 3 that have ever needed then are my boosted ones and even then im still unsure if I could plumb a pcv up as there 1 way

I recoed one a little while ago for a guy got a new core off fleebay and stuck his housings on it and stuck it on its stock that one but my mates ones on 15psi and has the same core and he has had no issuses and man he gives it a hard time
there on fleebay for about 600 bucks -
camtech 528 works with 9.5 comp that's why I picked it over the crow 650 I knew it would work better as ive run it before oww that and it was like $78 cheaper the the crow unit
-
the carby and manifold is aso a issue but in saying that ive never run a stock carby and manifold with any camed up engine so I cant give you much input on that ando?
rob sell this guy your 4barrel and holley?
Solid v hyd cams with similar specs

If you can pull/smash them off you can have them i asure you they will never come off not even in a hi speed crash
I seen that one freinded him so i could take a look at it. I read he killed the engine that meet i had the blower flexing issue to when i first set mine up thats why my blower snout is not standed and it has a brace as the blower would turn/flex on the manifold
