  1. Ok, I tested it with the key in the ignition, and the boot release worked 100% of the times, took the key out and periodically pressed the boot release and it worked several times and then stopped working. So, I guess that's how it's set - up. A bit silly if you ask me.......

  2. Hey Guys,

I'm still ironing out some gremlins in my EL XR8, but the boot release has got me stumped. It opens remotely every time without issue. I replaced the fuel door/boot release switch with another and still nothing. I have no power to the switch, what so ever. I spliced into the power for the fuel door, and plumed it into the boot release, and still nothing. It has occasionly opened, but not in the last few days. Is there some where I can check to see if it's earthed, or pull power from somewhere else.....I did notice that the 5 XR8's I looked at before buying this one, 3 of them had the same boot issue with the boot release button. It seems a common fault.

    Any idea's?

  3. Yeah, that's what is the usual package, but the low beams are H1's and the parker light is located in the front side blinker.....and looking at the high beams, I doubt I could get my hand in there....hence why I'm asking. They look like h1's, but I doubt it....

  4. By whole assembly you mean the barrel and steering lock together right? The whole part that clamps around the steering column?

Just curious, that would be a good way to improve security I imagine.

Yes, the whole assembly. You have to cut a wire harness off the steering lock of the XG, but everything else bolts up the same. Looks cleaner,.....i've had a few people not belive me that they fitted. Got a few cartons that way....

  5. Hey guys, I just purchased a ELXR8 and I want to change the ignition barrel. If i'm to swap the ignition barrell over to a new one, will this affect the smartlock or the ECU in any way?

  6. Hey guys. I just purchased a ELxr8( for the second time), but have not received it yet. But I'm trying to get a bundle of things together to give it a service from hell when it's in my possession. Cant find anywhere, what kind of oil filter they need....is it the typical Z9 filter or a different one.?

  7. A bit off topic but, if I purchase this ELXR8 with the pod filter, if i return the original ducting and cold air intake system, will it wire up without incident, or will i have to have it retuned.....or will the ECU reset it self?

  8. I purchased a sprint manifold + injector manifold, minus the car. If i could find a sprint, i'd definately park it in my shed along with my other collectibles. At present, i dont own a ELXR8, though i did about 10 years ago, So, I'm hunting one for the right price. I've spoken to a supercharger mob ( marks workshop in WA ), that stated a bolt on supercharger with a sprint manifold could push the car upto 400hp, without having to pull the motor down. A standard ELXR8 supercharger with all stock internals could produce a easily 300hp, but with a few tweeks here and there, 350hp is still a manigible amount. I will go through the due process to make it legit and have it compliance plated with permit.

I'm looking at one currently which has a pod filter on the end of the intake under the bonnett, so i will restore it to it's factory set-up, if i'm to purchase it. And make all the other necessary adjustments to it, to make it look factory again. The eastern states for ELXR8's price seem to ave most XR's priced between 2k -5k. But here in perth, they start at 3k and push all the way upto 8k.

  9. So, I just need to confirm, there is no way to bypass/fix the issue with the plugs?, even If the plugs are different, is there not a way to match them up to the existing loom to be adapted to work?

  10. Hey Guys...

A bit off topic for this website.....but if I was to purchase the throttle body + manifold off a XR8 sprint, and attach it to my ElXR8, would the ecu be able to adapt to the increase of the CFM ( XR8 sprint ) to the standard XR8 set up?, or will I have to tweak a few things to adapt and get the most out of the new set-up.

Cause apparently the manifold of a sprint is 220 cfm, to the standard 170 cfm on the factory ELXR8...

  11. Whoa ! Stop. Dont remove the dash yet......If in fact the windscreen is leaking..Just Throw some more silastic ( Just to test, but remove later )( Remove the chrome bits ), and bulk it up and let it dry for 24 hours and hose it down.....But in the mean time , pull the plenum cover + both window wipers out completely, and stick ya phone/camera in there and take photo's at all angles, and see if there is any rust.

I had water pissing in on my XF drivers foot on heavy rain days, and i thought it was rust also. So I pulled my drivers seat out, and got my boy to wash the windscreen and i sat and watched where the water was coming out. Ya wouldnt believe it.....I found that the drain holes were filled with gunk, and since i had my harness  hidden under the mudguard, the water would follow the wires ( through the fire wall ) and drop on my foot.

  12. Hey guys

I was driving around last night, then all of a sudden my speco volt meter + ghia dash volt meter showed low voltage. I charged her up over night, and started her this morning. I put my volt meter reader on the alternator, and she showed 12.6, and my battery in the boot was showing 12.6 also. Is there something in the car that would be making her drop like this, or is my alternator dying?
