  1. Hey guys

     

    My gearbox in my ELXR8 ( apparently ) was rebuilt nearly 20,000km ago, and it changes very nicely without issue's, but i have noticed that after an hour of driving ( i get a very noteable gear change , from 4th to 3rd , while sitting somewhere between 60kmph - 80kmph ). Is it possible that my transmission cooler isnt doing it's job, and I need to install a bigger cooler? I've never had any issues while doing small drives, or anything upto 30 mins, but has only ever happend after an hour of driving.....or do i have an issue somewhere else?


  2. Hey all, I've installed a set of tweeters/subs in the front and rear. All was sweet, till last week when the front passenger side started to crackle/pop. Having the same set-up at the back, I swapped subs from rear to front ( thinking I've blown the speaker ), but the rear sub started doing the same thing, and the front speaker ( now in the back is working well ). I turned down all the gains on the amp, diverted more power to the rears and she still pops/crackles. I swapped the speaker wires over at the amp , and still no better. Is there something I've missed.?


  3. Hey guys, i"ve almost got my ELXR8 running right for my daily, which pushes the idea that my XF351 is due an upgrade. I'm not planning on pushing this thing out in a few weeks, but just to follow the processes to get a 500 hp weapon and have it done and completed within 12 months. I rebuilt the motor over 20000km ago, and has a supposed 330 horsepower, running a highly tuned 670 holley. It's a 9inch diff with 3.75 with LSD, but that was knocked down from 4.11, and i still have the parts, that will go back in. The shift kitted C4 is on it's last legs, so thats on the list of things to be fixed.

     

    First thing first......what is a very repitable stroker kit ( either 393 or 408 )?


  4. hey guys, the breaks on my EL are a bit strange....it has a new break booster, and master cylinder ( 2 years old ) , I replaced the rear calipers about 6 weeks ago. The front calipers look good, and I've bleed the system twice.....but it seems I have a lot a travel in the break pedal. Unlike my XF's, which are nice and touchy....these seem slow and un-responsive. it's hard to explain, but if I need to hard break, I near need to stand on the pedal....but is there some other adjustment i'm missing. It has ABS....


  5. Weirdest thing .... I pulled the facia panel off and noticed that there are a 2 extra looms that are plugged into the 'rear window' button. They are plugged into a plastic lug, and do nothing. I suppose if I had a station wagon, I could just plug the switches in for the rear window wash and wiper. They do that, and don't add the extra wires to get the trip computer to work......lol

    As you'd know by now, i'm still going through my EL XR8. I bought a trip computer, but I never wanted it to work proprly, but I only just wanted it to display the day, date and time. When I plug my trip computer into the existing harness, nothing lights up nor dose it display. I'm aware to get the trip computer to work, I have to run 3 wires around and plug them in certain places, and I can get it to measure all the fuel mileage's of the fuel used, and left to be used. Is there some way, to get the trip computer to display the day/date/time?

    I found my high pressure power steering hose has a nice leak( on my ELXR8), but have found that repco, and auto one don't stock it anymore. They have 6 cylinders, but not 8 cylinders....dose anybody know where I can get a new one from, cause the alternate is I go to enzed and have them make me one.


  8. Hey guys,  I'm trying to sort out my last gremlin in my ELXR8 ( 06/98 ). I've gone through and have installed new distributor, coil, leads, fuel pump, spark plugs, fuel relay, fuel filter, new battery, new alternator, oxygen sensors, and cleaned the throttle body.

     

    The last issue I'm trying to amend is, that if the car is parked in the sun, or I go on long drives, when I go to start the car, it takes 10 - 15 seconds to start, where as if she is started in the early morning or night , she starts between 3 - 5 seconds.

     

    Any idea's ?

    I've got a shed out the back, and i wanna park one of my XFs in there for a short time, but i have at least 3-4 inch lift from ground level to get them up. Can anybody recomend a decent set of ramps that will be best at getting my XF upto the height.?


  10. Hey, after some internet surfing and visiting 'ALBERTS' in perth, I found my solution. Yes, it is weird to have RCA's for front only, but I was put onto the L.O.C.PRO Lp7-4 ( line output convertor ) , made by PAC. Simply run your speaker wires to the box, and it converts them to RCA's. You have to run a  earth and power to the box, but that's essentially  it. It can be used on any head unit made it the last 50 years to convert speaker wires to RCA's. I hope you find this usefull....

Hey guys again.....I purchased one of those 7inch touch screen's from japan that has reverse camera, GPS, DVD etc. The conundrum I have is I have Front right and Front left RCA outlets on the back of the unit, but I have no 'Rear right' and 'Rear left' RCA's on the back.  I have a harness of speaker wires that are at the back of the unit that have RL, RR, FR , FL. I had a look on ebay, and noticed there are 'RCA to Speaker Wire Adapters' that allow these to be joined. If I was to wire the RR and RL speaker wire's into a RCA cable's, and plug that into my amp, will I get the same performance from them as the RCA's that run from the unit to the amp?


  12. Hey guys, I'm trying the old "installing my sound system in the back yard" trick. But i have some confusion with OHMs. I understand 1 OHMs is better bass than 4 OHMS for bass, and have watched a video on youtube how to wire 2  4 OHMS subwoofers down to 1 OHM. But can someone clearly explain what the OHMS are, and they're fuction....thanks


  13. Hey Guys, I'm trying to hunt down the special screw heads to take of the cover of my ELXR8 Windsor, and haven't got underneath as of yet, but I'm wondering, dose the 05/98 XR8 have a single ignition coil or is it a pack?


  14. Hey, so regardless of whatever setup i have, i will be able to attach the normal EL electric fuel pump to my assembley. I assume that the pump has never been replaced since factory, since the cover is glued down.


  15. Hey guys, i'm still playing with my EL Xr8, and still replacing things as I go along, and my next thing is the fuel pump.. Can someone confirm that the fuel pump that is in a 05/98 ELxr8, is the same as the AU XR8.  I purchased a 'direct replacement' for a EL XR8, but the buyer on ebay stated I needed the AU fuel pump, that comes with the float etc. It seems they changed the fuel pump in the 185kw XR8's.


  16. Hey guys

     

    I'm still going through my EL XR8, and finding things that are in need of repair or replace. I finally got around to taking the wheels off to check and inspect brakes, and noticed i have the '1' piston caliper instead of the twin piston's that i thought all XR8's had. Cause honestly, the brakes feel a bit 'spongy' in comparison to my XF's. If i was to hunt down a set of twin piston tickford front calipers, will they fit the rotor i have now, or will i have to replace that also?

     

    Or have i been mis-informed about twin pistons coming from factory for EL XR8's?
