  1. Sorry, I've orded the fuel pressure regulator, and have ordered new injectors since i have to remove the top manifold.........they just havent turned up yet.

     

    Another problem has arisen on top or could be part of the same issue......

     

    The 4 speed auto has worked fine and without issue.....and when ( on occasion ) i wanted a quicker start, I'd manually put it back to first and plant the foot. Today, I did this....and the car basically stood still.  It eventually got to 50 kmph, though it took 12 seconds ( yes , i timed it ). The normal power between 2nd -4th was there, though there was absolutely no power in first.....

     

    a kid on a bike would kicked my ass............

     

    any ideas?

    i have purchased a j3 chip over 4 years ago, ( Increased to the au MAF 70mm, while retaining the el xr8 MAF with ss induction) and have not had an issue's ever until recently.........my el xr8 2 has seem to develop a few annoying  issues. Symptoms are when i put my foot down, it feels to hesitate before it accelerates, and if i stick to a consistent speed, i can feel it lightly hesitating, and have to accelerate to stop the hesitating. Hesitating in my terminology means, it feels like fuel is being restricted. And when i start the car on a cold morning, it starts up, but then have to push the accelerator to push the idle up before it stabilizers, because if i dont, the car will stall, but then i can fire it back up and she seems normal. I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter, brand new MAF and have a new isc on route to me currently. My fuel consumption has sky rocketed to 35 litres to 175km, where before i would get 400km to 60 litres ( 2 months ago ). I'm not really getting any higher rpm through the gears changes, but fuel consumption is killing me.  Any ideas?

Ok, So i purchased and received the alternator...first thing....i will need a 3 ring pulley on the alternator for the v belt to line up.( it is short an inch from lining up) The lower extended mount on the alternator will need some washers to fill in the 2 mm gap to fit smug on the original bracket of the car and the top bracket needs to be bent, or the mounting hole on the alternator needs to be grinned back to line up with the original bracket.( Yes, I said bracket a lot ). So, I'm short on time to do this at the moment, and will get around to do it shortly.

     

    I currently have the 3 wire set-up and hope the change to the 1 one wire set-up will be beneficial and more tidy. 

     

    So, in short....don't buy it ,unless you ready to do these mods.


  4. Thanks for all the ideas. Yes, the oil filter is new. No burning oil. The engine oil doesn't feel diluted with petrol. Injector and rails are new. We'll try a separate oil pressure gauge, then a thicker oil.

    How is it possible to increase the idle? I thought it was all controlled via ECU....


  5. Hey Guys, The 98 EL XR8 is having an oil pressure issue. Driving around suburbs is fine, but when i drive onto the freeway for a distance and hit the suburbs, i noticed the oil pressure drops (sometimes so low, the alarm is triggered). If i put a few revs on idle, the oil pressure rises. Then if I go back onto the freeway, the oil pressure rises and stabilizes. It appears i have the issue only after going for a drive on the freeway, and then  the idle comes down while driving in the suburbs, then oil pressure gauge goes awkward. So, I already have replaced the oil switch and no success. Changed the oil, with no success. Currently have 10w - 40 oil in her. Would it be wise to go to a 20w - 50, or go to the trouble of ripping the sump off and changing the oil pump? Definitely no heating issues either.The motor is pushing 200,000. The idle is just over 800 rpm.  Any ideas?

Hey guys, I have the switch for an electric antenna for an EL, ( but mine is a EL xr8 ) which has the harness already to accept the switch, the question is, if i was to purchase a factory el electric antenna, which has the plug, do i make the connection in the wheel arch somewhere or is it in the cab?

    I'm pretty certain that my heater core is leaking in my el xr8 ( 10/98 ), since every time i turn my heaters on, i notice a drop in the coolant level. I have a plan of doing a few things in the dash, so while I'm digging around in there, do i have to take the whole dash out to access the old heater core and replace it?


  8. ok, i bought one, and after a string of fuck ups, it's only a good paper weight. Firstly, the pulley wont line up with the alternator belt, even after turning it into a duel set-up. Then the tensioning bar, gets in the way, and the fans of the alternator hit it..Is not a dead item yet, i might still get some more length to the pullys, and i might have to half the size of the alt tensioner with a angle grinder....


  9. Hello everyone,

     

    Has anybody fitted a whole set of (hid's with ballast) to they're el xr8 high beam or similar? My question is, that if i was to set up both my high beams with the hid conversion, will i have to run a relay in between the wires of the original light and  the new globe, cause i'm under the impression is the high beams already have relays>? and hence wont have to install another relay

    I know it wouldn't hurt, but if it's not necessary i wont do it.....

    Any idea's

  10. plenty of audio and lots of lights, plenty of lights....I had a 120 amp on my 351, and everything ran bright and knocked out good bass. The 100amp alt is available, but already having a 85 amp mounted, I couldn't justify spending $200 on a 15 amp increase where the 140 amp alt is $50 more than the 100 amp


  11. Sorry, don't know how to post the link, but I came across a 140 amp alternator for an XF. I typed in the ebay search ' xf ford alternator' and scrolled down the page.....Has anybody had any experiences with these.....i'm aware they have an internal regulator, and are basically a throw away if it shit's itself.


  12. I ordered a Desert cooler 4 core ( Z flow )( 18 months ago ), and only had to cut the mounts at the bottom to mount it without issue. I also, got them to weld a 'low coolant ' bung in so i can monitor if i am loosing coolant. I bought they're duel thermo fan set-up, and they spin faster than the ef/el set - up. But during a time i had to drive from the bottom of perth to the top CBD, to do training for my job ( on a 40+ days ), i noticed the temp guage creep upto 100". I then installed a 16 inch thermo on the front, and now i drive the car in the hottest temperment australia has to offer and i can keep it around 90" all day, if 3 fans are spinning. Also, being the guage freak i am, i have a temp switch in the lower radiator hose( which shows 90" on it's hottest days), and a temp switch in the factory position on the cleveland pump( which goes to 105 on the hottest days) and i have a factory XF temp switch that hooks upto the ghia dash ( which sits half way of the temp guage on the hottest days.

     

    There's so many ways to set up cooling systems. I had a mate whom had a heating problem on his COM.....E, and he ran a heater hose through the chasis of the car and gave it a 90' turn and the rear bumper, than again he returned the water line down the other side and hooked it back into the system. He had a heater tap on it, and if it started to get hot, he'd hit the heater tap and the then the coolant would flow the length of the car. He had a davies water pump at the back to push the water to the front, cause it's a lot of water for the common water pump to push. After several years he put a shortend version of a radiator at the back of the car with a cooling fan underneath it, and has never had an issue with heating issues. I was going to do it, but i will if this desert cooler ever fails.


  13. Hey guys, I have the 98 ELXR8 ( which already has the explorer manifold ) , but it still has the restricting EL throttle body. Since it's hard to compare from photo's over the internet, but will a AU3 XR8 throttle body be a direct replacement over what I have now.....or will I have a plug, size issue any where?


  14. thanks for the info.........another thing, I had a mate tell me there are cams for the 302w, that if installed, they assist with better flow, and increases performances overall, and the ecu should be able to adjust with out incident..is there any truth to this?
