Astra pump is the way to go.
I would consider an EL alternator for the set up.
They are 100Amp. I have one on my XD 351 with a gilmer drive
I run an MSD dizzy, Holley red fuel pump & twin EL thermos.
Charges at 14.3 volts at idle.
Yep i run thermos, msd 6530, astra pump, ect and mine runs fine with a EB v8 alternator

Are you sure it's the front springs, if one of the rear springs has sagged (especially being leaf springs) it will make a more noticeable difference than the front springs to check jack the front or rear up separately and see if the car goes level
yeah if you push down on the front left it doesnt really go anywhere lol, sitting on the bump stops
41 year old 6cyl coil springs rest in peace lol

I have noticed the last few times i have driven my car that the left hand front spring has shit itself (maybe the shock to)
the car sits like an inch or so lower on the left, maybe more lol.
I want to order a set of springs for the front but king dont have a part number for the xb?
i thought the xd-e-f were the same is this true?

I believe the first of the T Series Tickford AU 200kw 5.0 had FMS alloy gt40 heads.
The Windsor I dropped into my XD is from an AU, however has edlebrock alloy heads, carb intake, timing cover, water pump etc etc, and due to the weight saving over a iron headed clever lifted the front end by an inch.
On a Windsor you save a good 20kg (44 lbs) on swapping to alloy heads alone, so she is a real light engine.

damn im glad i looked at this . i am actually going thru what springs to order today for my car.. and in the next few months it will be getting alloy heads ! .. good excuse to go lower than i was going to originally lol

If it stopped driving the oil pump, then it will have stopped driving the spark, and it's a bit hard to fuck an engine when it's not running.
not unless the inner hex in the dizzy rounds off lol
to many nightmare stories around about chinese engine parts man just trying to help haha

It has a vent hole under the pick-up area. I suspect it's from the shaft. It's trickling out of there down to the block where it mounts. I have a feeling it's got something screwy going on with the drive gear, as you can rotate the shaft a good 5 degrees (10 crank) which would explain it backfiring and lacking power lately. It's a very early MSD copy using genuine internals, about 18 years old but done 3/5s of stuff-all work.
Might be a sheared roll pin. I'll rip it out tonight after the monkeys are in bed.
And yes I would like a genuine MSD and there's a whole lot of other things I'd like too.
how about a complete rebuild, because the chinese copy stopped driving the oil pump lol ?

Not that long. It's driven straight from the alternator which provides enough juice.
So long as the idle doesn't drop lol
Howcome you diddnt go off of the battery? thats my backup incase the alt dies or the car stalls lol
hammering thru a corner and your power steering dies = not ideal lol

Yeah have done this. see my old school ute thread.
Ts astra pump
Wiring is easy, just need a +12V feed which i have coming from the astra alternator. Don't worry about the blue white diagnostic wire.
Main feed for the pump comes from the alternator too. mounted low in the front part of the bay. Uses a combination of astra pipes pirtek hose and the old xf lines cut to fit.
Don't worry about the gm oil use atf - hesitant to change, pumps are cheap xf steering boxes aren't.
Steers well, better than the old saginaw pump but if you twirl the wheel quick at low rpm you can loose pressure fairly easy. Not a problem in normal driving. The pump is also lower pressure so will need heavier arms but i prefer more feel in the steering on x series fords.

I needed two different wires to be connected at once to get mine going , the other ones just some diagnostic wire as far as i know?does yours take about 30 seconds to build pressure after its started ?i am also using ATF . because i used a 5.0 windsor fitting and it leaked from the high pressure side/on the pump. The astra one is really similar but it has an oringAwesome, thanks mate, is it easy to determine which hose goes where?
Basically . the low pressure hose is just hose clamped on each end
the high pressure hose is threaded and crimped on each end

I seem to remember Lord Far Quad showing a Astra pump conversion in his ute thread.
If you guys want any more pics ect i can provide . they are in the link ^^
the ONLY disadvantage in running the pump i can find , is that when you turn the car/pump on it takes about 30 seconds before it builds enough pressure to steer
Ive got it wired to ignition.. so you can easily dry steer with 245/45/17s on the front with the car off and just the ignition on.. which is cool lol

Im running one . In my Xb which has a v8 in it
should be in the project thread
Im selling the hoses off of mine. Because ive brought braided flex ones for that extra bling. its long enough to mount it anywhere in the engine bay . PM me if u want it

What about a T700.... arent these a 4 speed version of a T400 with cable kickdown (no electrics)
the VN 4 speed is basically this.
thats what i would go IMO
If you are starting from scratch.. that 4th gear is 1000x better for street duties

Nice, take any pics.??
I'm just thinking with all the pulleys, the belt would be pushing 2 metres in length, and would more than likely stretch.
You take up the slack with the alternator bracket.?
Pics should be in my XB project page . Ill link it
Belt is a 1195mm long one though haha
EDIT: Here is the link

Could change all the pulleys and run a serpentine belt...
Might be pricey, You would have to run/mount an idler/tensioner too.
I dont run a tensioner in my Serpentine setup on the windsor
although that only uses alt-waterpump-crank pulleys

they do Vn's with them this might give you some idea's even though they are set up different http://postimg.org/image/k39c2eg8r/
What is the point in running a gilmer like that , then running v belts ?
-
I am pretty sure that ltd i have thats here , has the converter mounted like the 2nd picture. was a 225/impco setup like that picture.
let me know if you need any mounts and stuff? i am running a carb manifold so that stuff is all useless lol

I'm looking for some placement ideas on the MSD in the engine bay of my xd van, was thinking of putting it under the battery tray but looks like i will need to make up a plate for it. i don't want to put in inside the car. Ur welcome to put some pics up to show
I have mounted mine inside on the trans tunnel, and all of the wires , that already come on the box , are long enough to reach the dizzy /coil, without adding to them?

The smartass answer is install it and pull a burnout
My answe is to look for the tag for lsd oil
Yeah I know probably as useful and locking the screen door on the submarine to keep the water out
Ill be testing , test number 1 , in the near future lol
they are really weird. my friend brian came with me to double check the diff last night
ends up it acts as a pegger normally , UNTIL its under LOAD
then its like a lsd
ill get more pics .. as i am still sorta curious on how it works myself
-
Looks like I may be wrong, you can see with this one the clutchs in the back.
Cheers for that , ILIED (chaise) sent me a photo of his and it looked just like that . had issues with photobucket, so i couldnt upload them
i am going to sus the diff tonight and prolly purchase it
-
UPDATE:
im going around to look at it on thursday anyways . i am going to
hold the pinion in place
hold one axle
see if i can turn the other axle
if i cant its an LSD
-
Yes very interesting..... FG diffs are 1550 mm flange to flange and BAs are 1500. Means you could cure that age-old Falcon trait of the rear wheels sitting in too far by fitting an FG diff and not have to run wideys on the back.
Or do the opposite in a FG with a ba diff , which is what id do with a fg ute lol

It's a Open diff. LSD is a sealed hemisphere
Are you sure, you have opened one of these up yourself?
I have some more photos from Chaise 'ILIED' , of his LSD center, it looks like the one above

1974 is new enough for me lol
do you mean soldering the connections AT the sensor ?
if you solder a spade terminal onto a wire and then plug it into something , should be fine ??
