  1. I like the slotting holes idea. I'd prefer to try and keep my a/c working if my clevo goes into my FE. The engineer I spoke to was aware of the clearence issue. Will he know or even care about the slotted holes? I'm in Vic so things might be different this end of the world.

  2. Kinda makes it hard to educate fellow car enthusiasts on how to follow the rules, if that's what happens...... O_o

I'm a member of the AMEP, so will ask for their advice, if it occurs.

(Or our resident legal eagle Gromet88, might be able to help also)

Got a link to the xfalcon thread?

Or PM me if no link?

I agree. They want us all to be good boys and girls and follow the rules but we can't post the rules. I guess you can post the link but still a bit silly. It's free info and you are sharing it for free. I wonder what they would reply with if you did ask permission to post the contnts here.

  3. Hmm there's a good point, cooling.

Will my stock radiator (A/C style from XF) still be suitable? I have EF thermos on it.

My XE wagon, V8, runs an XF radiator. Was a clutch fan but when it failed i fitted an XB extension piece so now fixed. I have driven it in peak traffic on hot days and it was fine. Pretty standard motor though i would think, small cam at best.

  4. Seeing as I seem to want a similar combo I'll ask here. I like the combo you have in the custom line. In my LTD or Polson's ute it could go quicker. Low 13s is not too shabby. If it sounds like Tweakers with the thumpr then I'd be stoked. Only thing with mine is I already have tri-ys I'd prefer to use if applicable and I have to run straight gas. My clevo is a 302 which needs a birthday so sounds like a good candidate for the above.

  5. I just re read your fist post, personally if I was building a turbo engine I would go Au, at least later if you get serious you can use aftermarket crank/rods/pistons to suit a barra engine without serious machine work to fit

I figured that might be the go when suggested to go the EF head for more comp. I was going to ask today. Just read your other 4.0 thread too, subscribed.

  6. All great info guys, thanks heaps for the responses. Gives me somewhere to start if i go this way. My initial thoughts had been to go buy a cheap EB-EL and slap her in. AU's are also getting cheaper which is good. But mixing and matching, and EA cams? I wouldn't have thought to do stuff like that.

  7. Thanks Ants. There's a few AUs on Ebay and carsales for under 1000. Something to keep in mind.

I am in a similar position. I want to put a 4 litre in my ZL maybe next year.
I personally was leaning toward an AU motor. I have an AU so i have experience with it and like the motor FWIW. I would then use the AU box to. I have no technical experience with this sort of conversion so i cant say how hard it will be.
But AU's are plentifull, cheap and reliable.

Also adds the option of the VCT motor not sure how much harder that would be though.

    Good thread mate.

Thanks, figured it's a pretty common question with the x-series owners. I'm warming to the idea of this as there are less hoops to jump through than if there is if i drop my clevo in.

  8. I thought i'd open a new thread to ask this as there isn't much here in the 6 cyl section yet.

If I wanted to put a 4.0 Litre into my FE, which model would be the preferred? Maybe even the top three in case number one is hard to find or out of budget, etc.

In my case i would like to use the 4spd auto as well. Not sure if i will ever go turbo but if so, does this affect which model i should go for?

  9. Aaside from having the cash to throw at it I think I can achieve that if I go that way. I know a guy who can build the donk and tune it if need be.

Thanks for the answers guys. Definitely food for thought.

  10. No, in Vic clevo in FE must be gas. What I meant was this thread is tempting me to keep the crossy. No engineers hassles, no LPG. As mine is EFI and all combos mentioned so far have been carb I was curious if anybody has done any sort of EFI setup.

  11. I'm weighing up options about throwing my clevo into my FE but this thread has me a little captivated. I would prefer to give the LPG the flick and just run 98. I'm going club rego asap as I barely drive it. Anyone running these kind of setups with EFI of any type?

  12. I had planned to use the same as I was happy with the noise it made. Never had any trouble with people not hearing me coming but lately I've decided that there is surely room for improvement.

  13. This is my 302 XE. This motor might be making its way into my LTD after a freshen up. It doesn't get started much and fuel was prob 5 years old at this point.

No idea on engine specs, went ok. 600 Holley vac sec, genie tri-y extractors, single 2.25 or 2.5.
