I'm replacing all ball joints, tie rod ends, pitman, idler & buying the $450 Nolathane bush kit. Front & Rear.
I intend to do all of this over a long weekend in the next month or two so I'll be taking photo's & doing a write up as I go.
Should be interesting. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is drilling out the rivets in the old ball joints! Big fat ~10mm suckers!

I'm going to buy the bearing and have a go at fitting it to the original casing. B208 full complement needle roller bearing.
-
That's an awesome write up. Very useful. Thanks.
Given that I work in an engineering workshop with a borer & lathes, my best bet might be to buy the full complement bearing, machine out the bronze bush, bore the hole bigger & press in the new bearing?
Or do you reckon the newcom ready to fit tops are good enough?
Thanks again for the excellent post

I looked there too & couldn't find 1 either. Anyone know where else to look?
-
Yeah, Except I'm not even sure what they look like or where I'd begin to get one?
Any ideas?

Hi
Anyone know what the specs/sizes are for a needle roller bearing to fit the steering box in my FD?
Cheers

Yeah. Mates rates I.e free from a signwriter / grafics guy I used to play golf with

Thanks very much.
What do you reckon that black border measures? 3,4 or 5mm?
-
Can someone please take & post a pic of the FC/FD Tail lights that have the silver/black decal. Mainly just the strip in the middle that's usually black or chromed.
I need it to match the silver colour.
Can you give me the measurement in mm of the black border line width & total decal width. Obviously the silver takes up the rest.
I'm going to get some new ones made up if anybody wants any?
-
Very Lucky..... I got one lined up from that FD a guy is wrecking on ebay. He wants $30 which is reasonable. My cuz is back over the ditch next month so he can bring it over.
I'll be stoked if it happens.

Took the old one out tonight to give it a birthday clean & dropped the sob on the concrete floor. Broke the face, split all the way up & too many pieces to glue back together gracefully.
So.....
I'm now in need of a beige/tan glovebox for my 84FD. Don't need the badge necessarily but will be easier if it's included.
Think the tan colour of the later model xf's etc is different?
Can anyone help?
I know freight to NZ might be a killer but I have a cuz in Penrith who could hold onto it until he comes vack if it's real expensive.
Please!!?

Bizarrely I solved this issue.
First was a new battery. The old one was poked.
I found, cleaned, tightened every single earth I could find, then with the help of the manual and member VDO found & checked some more.
long story short, those bulbs draw a lot of voltage & the guage is just telling me this.
I replaced all park, tail/stop & indicator bulbs with LED's the indicator & park ones have a load resistor built in & what do you know.....problem solved. All guages are stable and accurate with no flicking, dropping or other weird shi*
Happy with the result. The LED's are as bright & I got the coloured ones to match the tail light lenses which helps a lot.

PM me your email & I'll scan you the wiring pages from the Ford manual if you want

Only slightly more complicated because of the handbrake lever being driven by the adjuster screw.
A piston winding or resetting tool is really useful!

At the risk of appearing dumb, what's the hole for crazy2287?
-
Yeah the thermostat could be coroded & not opening properly. Its easy & cheap to replace. Just watch that hollow bleeder bolt on the housing, they snap off real easy if you give it too much!
While ur at it replace the sender too cheap & easy.
A cooling system flush is always a good idea done properly & use new correct coolant fluid.
-
I bought the kits off eBay & did it myself. It wasn't particularly easy but wasn't impossible either. Hardest part was winding the piston back in!!!
I just followed my Ford shop manual otherwise.
New pads, rotors, bearings, grease, brake fluid. All up cost me about $500 for 4 wheels & 1 weekend.

Its worth buying a parts list dvd off ebay. Search for "dvd xd xe or falcon parts" for about $20 you get exploded views of every single thing on or In the car

it was packed ok. Could have been better. I didn't pack it though.
I'm over it. I'll file a claim against TNT then hopefully I can glue this one back together good enough. Won't be perfect but my 30yo car isn't either anyway.
lesson learned tho.
