It appears the problem was the filter we had before the pump, they (Holley) recommend 100 micron and we had one substantially less than that so the poor bloody pump was working its arse off trying to suck fuel through - dumb us!!!
-
Bosch has been recomended by a poster here, they sound OK

sorry, should have explained more, there is a return regulator up front, with a return line to the tank, the pump is located below the fuel cell at the rear of the car. we have the regulator set at 6 psi

Just looked at the fitting isntructions for the Holley Blue and they recomend to wire it in like we have, so not sure why they are burning out, anyway what are good fuel pumps

The sandwich plate option is by far the easiest, might go down that path and see what happens, thanks everyone

We are currently running a mechanical oil pressure gauge and a oil pressure shut off switch for the engine (it is a track car) from the journal at the top rear of the Clevo, we are running an oil line from the oil journal from near where the fuel pump would normally sits up to the top journal, so effectively we have 3 things going on at the top We want to run a oil temp gauge, but not sure where to do it from, any suggestions?

We are running a mid range ASR sump, bloody great it is, as I said we have an oil cooler in the left hand headlight. I like the idea of it being in the sump Thanks for great advice Ando, Steve, butcha, bear and XC

An FG is a tad different to 1976 Cleveland 351 - just sayin' Thanks Steve, I am not sure if there is a place in the sandwich plate, but I will have alook

wet sump with an oil cooler in the left hand headlight, we have used a sandwich plate behind the oil filter for the oil cooler
-
undo the engine bolts, lift the engine up about 25 - 30mm, put some good quality blocks of wood under the engine mounts, this will keep the engine up in the air, no need to disconnect anything to do with the engine, 25-30mm shouldn't hurt anything Then take off the sway bar and the sump should be easy to get out

We have a XE track car with standard disc brakes on the rear, we have no handbrake, now those that now anything about these bastard brakes is that getting the caliper piston to wind in can be painful to say the least I know the EL rear brakes had the hand brake shoes on the inside of the rotor, rather than using the caliper, I won't to know if these calipers will bolt straight on to an XE disc brake rear end I was told on the weekend that the brakes (calipers) off the XG utes will fit straight on, I am led to believe that these had the hand brakes shoes inside the rotor Anyone?

Interesting on the South African thing The single rail we have in our XE was given to me in bits, I had no idea how to put it together so I gave it (in a box) to one of my local mechanics who is supposed to be a guru on them, when I went to pick it up he asked me where I got it, I told him that I believed it was out of an American Mustang, he said that he had never seen the ratios that were in our box before, hmmmm?????? And you can't fit the bush into ours, just like the OP -

we have been running a single rail in a XE racecar for about 6 years and never had one, bought one, couldn't fit it, threw it in the bin and never worried about it again - just sayin' -

Start a photobucket account, then add the photo's to the account, once that is done, on the top right of the photo there is a list of things, you need to click links and copy the link, then post the link here Or you can open a Post Image account (I reckon they are better) and do the same, but as soon as you add the pictures it gives you an option at the bottom to 'Hotlink for Forums (1)', click on the 'copy to clipboard' link and then paste the link here.

funny you should say that - LOL

Paint the fucker Kalari Kenworth Orange Steve, it will look awesome - LOL

Make sure you talk to the right people and get a few opinions, really lumpy is not always to best for a road car. And spend a few dollars extra and get anti-pump up lifters.
