Sorry Gerg, your the smart one.

Fingers crossed Gerg!

If someone says 'this is probably a stupid question' it usually isn't. Bear asked if the choke was working. I thought it moved okay and before changing carbies had a good look. Broken choke spring on new carby (yes Dave, I know, New may be craps) put on old carby choke and fingers crossed for tomorrow. Might be my imagination, but seems to run better.

Sorry to keep asking basic question, but to test vacuum, do I put gauge on vacuum outlet at carby base?
-
Well, no luck with changing needle and seat and tightening fuel line. Still hard to start cold. Will change carby but I know what sparky Dave is saying, but putting an old dirty thing for sparkling new!
-
I have a vacuum bleeder. I presume that could be used as a vacuum gauge??
-
Thanks!

Also bought a compression gauge to check that but not really the problem just yet I guess.

Started straight away after spraying ether down carby. I guess tomorrow I'll put the old carby back on. Not sure what blow by is. And thanks, once it is back from panel beater, I would like to talk to someone about a rebuild. Will get back to you tomorrow and will take a pic too. For the hell of it, I put old needle and seat back. I thought it was tight but a little fuel leaked so I had to tighten it much harder. I wonder if there was a small leak there before. Will cold start tomorrow and unless there is a miracle, will put old carby back on.

Would have thought it was a 1v but either way, what do you want a pic of to decide?
-
Another excellent idea.

Cool. Yes you are right. I need to get back to basics. I thought before I do anything else, when it's cold, spray some starter fluid down carby. Basics _ is it fuel or spark? Then take it from there. I also think you are right that lpg has probably stuffed valves as well.

Will let you know. Only changed carb due to rough idle and it made no difference. Would really like to take it to a good mechanic and get everything sorted out.

Yeh, I have all stuff that was originally on it carefully put away
-
That's weird - that is what I thought I would do.

Went to a carby specialist and got a reconditioned Stromberg
-
Thanks but the carby is new so shouldn't need a rebuild.
-
Yeh 6 Stromberg. Not sure if cap vented.
-
That's what I originally thought but didn't know what to do about it.
-
Yeh, that seems okay.

Dizzy looks old. Might be easier to just replace. Electronic one on eBay for $119
-
Cranks for ages at normal speed when cold (fires straight away when warm), then eventually fires. It is a new coil.
-
Thanks Dave. Makes sense. I just read somewhere it might help. When you say 'new' do you mean new dizzy? That I what I would like if you have a contact. It permanently fixes the problem, and I still have lots of kitty money.
-
Thanks guys, that's very helpful. Its the old type coil (but new) so I guess it should be all good.

Hi Still preparing xb Fairmont coupe for panel beater. It's going soon. But while waiting I put in a new booster/master cylinder. Of course brake lines were rusted to old one. Saved 2 of the three but one broke. Need a new connector to join brake line back to master cylinder. You know, little fella that screws in and holds flared line in place? Can't find one in the stores. Should be pretty easy I would have thought. Also brake lines have surface rust. Might be okay. Would they need replacing for roadworthy? If so, best advice for people to do it? I'm not keen.
