Thanks for all that info. I also took a look at that thread you posted. To be honest ,now... I’m thinking I might buy a CRS Bell and maybe also buy the CRS g box crossmember. As I can easily fit that up myself with basic tools and probably the only outside help I need is to cut and shut my tail shaft to suit it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I was just eyeing up the, 3 speed housing and top loader housing, i have, it looked as if there isn’t enough realestate on the lower face area to allow for the lower 2 bolts of the T5. Obviously I don’t have the XF T5 here yet to be able to measure anything. I’m trying to avoid buying a CRS $$$ bell , to adapt the T5 Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi all, I’m new to this place it’s only my second ever post. I’ve got a XY , 6cyl 250 pre cross flow car, that’s 3 speed column manual,bench seat. I’m looking for info and tips on converting it to a 4 speed single rail. I’ve got some questions... Is it worthwhile doing? Will it drive better? My hydro clutch and fork is on the passenger side, can I keep my existing bell housing and all internals , clutch and flywheel etc? Do I need to mod the tailshaft length? Gear lever clearance near the bench seat all ok? Speedo drive/cable mods? Other than the box , what other parts do I need? Any info or tips would be appreciated. If anyone’s got a good single rail box for sale ,I heard the Cortina box is better ? please pm me. Happy to pay freight also. Thanks that’s interesting to know. I will try the same and mod my XY , 3 speed bell housing . The one that’s currently running in the car. The 6cyl to toploader bell housing I also have, I won’t molest or use that unless I have to. The single gearbox should arrive in a week or two, I might try and fit it before Xmas. Update! And tech question - Hi all I’ve found a good Cortina Single Rail box that has the short stubby extension housing so I’m confident the gear stick position will work with my bench seat. (It won’t arrive here for about two weeks) The car currently is Borg 3 speed column shift. Will the single rail bolt straight up to my existing bell housing? Maybe the only XY POV packs like mine and other early XY’s got the blow through heater from the XW? or even the XT? Most of them got the big box that you would normally think of for a xy heater. I’m no expert. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My car however at some stage had a really old Smiths Beehive heater with fan , fitted to the car, probably because the original heater core leaked which was very common. It works great and is toasty warm it’s still got the old bakerlite hi/low switch. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi all this might help There were two types of heater boxes for the XY. The one without the fan is commonly called a blow through heater it had a heater water core, but no fan and obviously no fan speed switch see the pic of my car It also came with the no fan , “heater delete” factory pov pack option. Thanks I worked out that Dellow do a bell housing to suit my hydro clutch set up. Dellow and Mal Woods , do a Mustang style short extension housing to bring the gear leaver forward. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

After a bit of soul searching I reckon the best solution for my application is to go.. T5 with the Mustang / Short rear housing to make it work with my bench seat. Having the extra legs in 5th is a bonus. What do you guys think? Has anyone here done this conversion onto a pre crossflow? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There’s a few things going on in my head about this.. 1) Don’t spend any more money 2) Get rid of the gran pa gear change 3) Floor shift would be nice 4) Put an auto in , it’s just a cruiser As you can see I’m very confused But...I’m going to Sydney tomorrow a guy there, has a xy dash pad he’s giving away and he also mentioned he’s got a falcon 6 and a BW35 he doesn’t want.
