No worries ta. Good day off. Got the bottom and top ends back together. Back to it on Saturday and get everything else done and back into the ute!
-
Thanks man, bottom end is back together Now I can get the head on. Should I fill the oil pump with oil before I bolt it back on ?
-
Thanks @deankdx got an adapter from Aussiespeed. Putting the ARP mains bolts in now. Manual says 95nm. Instructions that came with the bolts says 70nm. But the kit is for a 302Windsor. So how tight should I go?

I'll have more of a look tomorrow when I am awake. Came off nightshift, so as sharp as a bowling ball at the moment. This is the manifold, sans carb. Carb slips on perfectly as per the original pic, and all the holes line up. But not when I turn it 90deg.
-
I can't seem to find an adaptor plate to turn it. So I'll make up the pattern and get one cut on Thursday.
-
Carby arrived today! Sweeeeeeet! Fits perfectly this way, but I'll need an adapator plate to turn it the 90deg. If I wanted to run it the way it is now, I might need a spacer to move the manifold away from the head a bit for the choke to clear. Easy enough to make the linkages for it to work as per the photo below. But even easier if it is turned.

My old girl is a 1990. Bloody excited to get it all back together and drive it!

I imagine I'll have to make a bracket for the accelerator cable to link up to the new carby. Is it an XE V8 accelerator cable I need for the extra length?

$320 delivered

It just had a rebuild and comes with the tuning kit

Finally managed to move from the manufacturing line I was on, with the amazingly crappy roster, to another part of the factory with a much better roster. I get 6 days off starting next Saturday, so will wait til then to put the motor back together, and then back into the ute. Got more parts coming, and stocked up on the oils and fluids I'll need as well. Lashed out. This Gilmer setup was cheap, so I grabbed it.

I ended up getting some ARP bolts for it. It's only money
-
After I see if I can get some new ones.
-
Bit wary of using the bolts that came with it now. They have probably been used a couple of times. I can pull the bolts out of one of my spare motors. I know they haven't been pulled apart before.
-
I think they are? I could be wrong I've got three motors worth of main bolts sitting here.
-
Got it out! I'll get new ones next week and have another go at getting it together when I can get another full day off.
-
I had a complete brain fart and used the old ones
-
Fuck I feel stupid
-
It's my fault. I have been running on too much work and not enough sleep, 3 hours this morning after nightshift. Just slipped my mind. No excuse really. I won't be using the others now that I know what I did wrong. I'll have to get back into the bolt shop and get some new ones. What grade would these be?
-
Fuck!
-
Certainly does Thanks Banno

If I could find one I would. Unfortunately new is just way out of the budget. Found a good rebuilt 600 or a newish 570 Street Avenger that are both in the budget. So thinking about one or the other at the moment. Manifold arrived today as well. Can I drill a hole into the side of the plenum and screw or weld in a bung to attach the PCV hose to? It has the threaded bungs on top, but I'll be wanting those to put the OEM vacuum trees into. Planning to start putting the motor back together tomorrow afternoon. Bloody nightshift has slowed me right down!
-
I can start to put the motor back together now that the rear seal has arrived. So, ummm, this tab on each seal. Does it face towards the front of the motor or the rear when installed?
-
Thanks guys, this is all good stuff. How about a 570 Street Avenger? Just saw one pop up.
-
Thanks for that. Now to keep hunting
