I have a set of EF or EL fans sitting here that I never used. But I guess I'll see if I can grab the radiator and fans from the BF and make them fit. Doing one of these swaps is very much 'a piece from here and a piece from there'
-
Should I grab the thermo fans as well?
-
Yep, I have both in the XF. But not running the AC at the moment. Probably won't bother with hooking it back up, as I only have it blowing air on the windscreen .
-
Definitely, get the pedal and the plug with as much wiring as you can Thanks man, appreciate it.
-
Cool ta, I knew none of that Should I try and snaffle the accelerator pedal set up as well?
-
Thanks man, yeah I'll start collecting the bits I need, and talk to as many people as I can about it before I do the swap. I'm looking at a motor on Thursday. It is still in the car, so I can hear it running. If it is all good I'll head back down on Sunday to pull it out. Pretty comfortable pulling crossflows out, never removed a Barra before. I imagine there is a lot more wiring to come out. What should I make sure I pull out with it?

What flywheel would I need to run?
-
Good old Ford, they do like to reuse bits from past models I thought it sounded pretty good. For $400 with all its bits I reckon I'll grab it. Start collecting the bits to get it in then.
-
Hopefully that works. $400 with all the bolt ons, wiring etc..

250000 too many ks on a BF motor?
-
Yeah, pretty much sold on the idea of putting a Barra in her. To help fund it, I have a mountain of 250 Crossflow motors and parts I can sell off. You guys are enablers,,,, you know that right?
-
Yep, it would be the smart thing to do. And let's face it, a stock N/A Barra is going to feel like a race car motor in my old ute
-
You're kinda a bad influence,,,,,,,,, I like that about you

Got mate in Tamworth that has an AU XR6 VCT motor that he is running a carby on. He was just running me through all the bits and pieces needed.
-
There are a few AU XR6 VCT motors on FB marketplace at the moment, $500-700. But I am wondering if I just give in and join the DarkSide and go the Barra and be done with it. Kinda getting tired of swapping motors. I really wanted to keep my manual, but you said I can use an AU bellhousing and bolt my T5 up. I

Found it, reading through it now

Thanks gents, I have the King Springs Lows in the front. I'll pick up a set of the Ultima shocks and throw them in.

Thought I would start a new thread for the motor and the million questions I imagine I will soon be asking. I'll be picking up the bottom end next Wednesday and then start putting the rest of it together. I swapped some bits off my spares ute for a motor that was being put together, and then sold on to my mate when the original builder got sick. So here is what I have as best we know, plus what I have purchased for it. Block is 40thou over and o-ringed (no idea why). Pistons are 8cc jobbies (we think). Crank has been balanced. Crow Cams cam 141550S https://www.crowcams.com.au/ShopbyProduct/tabid/92/ProdID/15317/CatID/317/141550S__FALCON_250_XD_CAM.aspx Crow Cams double row timing gears/chain. New lifters. MSD StreetFire ignition. New leads, spark plugs etc.. I just dropped off a D head to have a tidy up and get a valve job. Nothing fancy. No porting at this stage. I have Crower valve springs and Yella Terra Street Terra roller rockers to fit to it. Extractors and the 2 1/4 exhaust into a sports muffler (no idea what it is) and no cat. I have Redline Torker manifold sitting here as well, but no carby at the moment for it. I have, of course, the OEM manifold and Weber. I was thinking of running a 500 Holley. New water pump and just picked up some EL thermofans. All hooked up to a T5 with a new Exedy HD clutch and I also have a couple of disc brake diffs here I can use to replace my drum diff. I was also going to use the EFI alloy rocker cover. Will this fit ok over the roller rockers? I have two working carby distributors I can pick from, as well as an EFI one. I take it I just stick to the carby dizzy? So that is where I am. I'm sure I have forgotten something, and I am sure I will have a heap of questions when I start putting it together. Parts starting to arrive.

Awesome thanks! This is just what I needed

More bits! Today was all about running around town picking up packages and grabbing hoses etc. from Autobarn. The banjo fitting for the Edelbrock arrived. Just waiting on the base gaskets now. I'll need to cut some out of the East/West adapter and the pad of the manifold to make room for the carby butterflies and to get rid of some lips. Easy job to do. And my Gilmer drive setup arrived!!!! I also stopped in at the auto sparky and he will wire up my gauges, thermo fans and MSD ignition for me. Does anyone have a diagram on which heater hose goes where, where the tap thing needs to go and where the vacuum line run to? I'm bypassing the manifold, as it won't be there anymore, and I have a mental blank on where the hoses went.
-
Yep cam run in. I'll have another shot at the timing next week. Still need to reroute the heater hoses and bolt the power steering back on.
-
Running rough, but running. Back to work tomorrow, so I will get back to it next week when I have my next lot of days off.
-
Turns out it for brakes. I can just plug it.

Well now I know I can link Instagram videos here. I only just finished cleaning all the Damn oil out of the engine bay!
