    XF AU Windsor conversion

    @fotz any updates?

    1992 5.0 into XF ute.

Just measured up the NC exhaust and it is 2.5". I might be able to use some of it and some new bits and weld a new one up to suit the ute. Should have a hoist in by then.

It is a standard 2 1/4 into an itty bitty muffler that has "Sports Muffler" on it, so you know it's good , and then straight out the back. Funny you should say about drifting around roundabouts, one thing the old girl does well is slide. Really predictable, and a shite load of fun. She does have a lot of tyre back there!

Thanks for that gents. Is it worth hanging out to find an LSD? It's not like I'm going to be pulling a lot of fully sik skids I'm going the Windsor because I just like the idea of the V8. I like the way they sound and drive. And I'm old, so a V8 was always the one to have. I'll give it a clean up, a decent exhaust and maybe a cam. The motor gets the old Fairlane moving along, so should go alright in Ratty.

It's a fascinating and confusing science Anyway, might have a lead on an XH panelvan diff setup. It's a 3.23, just waiting to see if it is an LSD.

Being able to use a sedan diff might make it easier to find what I want. I'm looking for an LSD, but what ratio should I aim for? Planning to run the T5 that is in Ratty now.

I thought that as well. But I lifted it up and spun a wheel and the other one didn't move. The tag on the housing just says High Performance Use Approved Lubricant Only. Maybe it's fucked?

I was thinking I could use the Fairlane diff. But it isn't an LSD. It's ratio is 3.27:1. The drum brake diff in Ratty is an LSD and it is a 2.92. I guess I could transfer all the disc brake set up from the Fairlane to my LSD diff. Or keep looking for an E series LSD diff.

Ahh no worries. Hey can I use a sedan diff, have all the brackets cut off and have the leaf spring mounts welded on?

Nice! I think I might look at the Holley Sniper setup when it is all in and done. What flywheel did you use?
  12. I really need to do something about my front end. I have sl, or ssl (I can't remember) in the front and at the time I put standard front shocks in, not knowing any better. I was looking at putting spacers on the shock towers, but short big bore shocks might be a better option. Anyone used these? They are on the cheap end of the scale. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/334034580437?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D7ba374863adc47698d78ec2c3416d447%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D334034580437%26itm%3D334034580437%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26brand%3DUltima&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A4ab2174e-98c4-11ec-b610-0a7356f291ff|parentrq%3A4197bc1d17f0a826daa39467fffb2e0e|iid%3A1

    Short Front Shocks?

Hey man, I've done about 300 ks so far, all over the beautiful roads we have out here at Bathurst Lots of twisty, windy and potholed roads on my way to work. I duck across past Tarana to get to work at Oberon. So much better with the new shocks in it. Handles a lot better and I'm not slamming into the chassis/bumpstops everytime I run over a pebble. So all in all pretty happy with them, especially for the price.

    2000 AU XR8

Looking at buying a rusted out running 2000 AU XR8 ute for my engine swap. Good thing? The motor that is.

    2000 AU XR8

Bloody hell. Trying to buy this AU XR8 ute is a PITA! So looking at a 98 Fairlane 5.0. Shouldn't be this hard to give people money.

    2000 AU XR8

Just spotted a 5.4 in a Fairmont! Might be a tight fit?

    Short Front Shocks?

Finally got them, and out them in. So much better. $205 well spent.
  18. Arghhh, I was on my phone a couple of days ago and saw a post from someone selling a front brake setup for an XF, using a BA caliper. I can't find it now, but I was wondering if anyone else has done this, and how they did it? I have the front calipers sitting on the BF here. If I can use them, that would be great.

Which 4.0 into Ratty XF Ute?

Time to start thinking about changing out my motor. The motor I have in it still has blow by. And whilst it sounds good, doesn't have the Go to match. I have a heap of 250 Crossflow motors and spares. But I'm honestly looking at going a SOHC 4.0 of some sort. Not sure that I want, or can afford to put the ubiquitous Barra in. So is a lntech or an XR6 VCT worth swapping to?

Which 4.0 into Ratty XF Ute?

The rotors and calipers are off it, and I have some 15" wheels to put on it. So should all be good,,,, I hope.

Which 4.0 into Ratty XF Ute?

That is excellent news! At least I can get wheels on the front to drag it on

Which 4.0 into Ratty XF Ute?

What wheels will fit the front of this wreck? There are no brakes on the front, so if I can wheels on it, it will make it a lot easier to drag onto the trailer. I've got heaps of XF period wheels?

Which 4.0 into Ratty XF Ute?

Fuck me! Ran down to Ingelburn in Sydney from Bathurst early this morning to get that motor out. The heat, the rain and time beat me. I also need some Torx spanners to get the bloody accelerator pedal out! So,,,,,, I bought the rest of the car for an extra $200, and will go back down next week, drag it on to my trailer and bring it home to strip at my leisure!

Which 4.0 into Ratty XF Ute?

Well I bought it Bf XR6 motor with all its bits and the pedal setup, $400. Still in the car, so I got to hear it run. I'll come back on Sunday and pull it out.

Which 4.0 into Ratty XF Ute?

Yep I downloaded all of the CRS videos and will watch them over the weekend. I just watched a Forrest Fabrications video detailing his budget Barra swap into his XF ute. It was good, lots of tips there as well. If I can avoid having to notch the rails to fit a radiator, that would be great!
