  1. Lets face it we Fairmont and Fairlane owners have seen this and it makes the car look like crap.....

It brings the whole look of the car down...

So here is a cheap easy solution thanks to the interwebs and little dollars...

So hit up good ol' ebay and get some 9mm chrome tape (perfect size) but you can get 12mm if none is available...

Should set you back a whopping $10 or so including shipping,,,, May take up to 4 weeks if from china,,,,,

    What you need is....

    Your chrome tape.

    A nice sharp knife,,,,

    Wax & grease remover....

Now sit on ya bum and get your knife.....

Slide along the top and lower edge of the chrome strip on the car with the knife.

When you have done that a few times.

    Peel away the chrome strip.

you should have just a greyish looking bit underneath.

Clean off with the wax and grease remover.

    Let area dry.

Get your chrome tape and place level with lower edge and just rub around 1cm on one end.

Pull the tape with medium  pressure and line up to other end and run finger across the strip..

cut off end (roughly ok at this point_

Now run finger over the chrome strip and make sure it is all down and run finger nail on top and bottom to get the chrome strip to get it right in there (you can grow your finger nails while you are waiting for chrome tape to arrive). Then trim off excess....

    Tada.....

    Dont like chrome?

Your choice of colour, after all its only pinstripe....

This will last a while but may need to do every couple years if you want it to look at its best.

But its only $10 and a hour of your time (depending on how many you need to do)....

  2. Old School rims on a old school car for the win personally.....

Dont like the modern wheels on old cars... Just looks wrong.

    Just not enough dish.

Grab some EF 15's for now and spend some time over the next few months on gumtree, something will turn up....

Thats how I got mine and what a bargain it was too.....

Rims for $200.... New tyres all round $450

Surprised Hendix hasnt tried to steal them.... lol

  3. OK I've finished for today so tomorrow I will 1 turn the engine by hand till it gets to the top of its stroke & blows out a puff of air.

2 line up the pointer to 0 on the balancer

3 take dizzy out & turn it to no.1 then put it back in. So it should be at 0 on balancer and 1 on dizzy then hopefully she should start again is this correct?

Dizzies will turn a little as you slide them in.....

  4. Thats why you always put it on number 1 tdc before you pull the dizzy out.....

There should be a small notch on the dizzy that lines up to number 1. rotor will line up with it when its in correct spot.

  5. What you need is a mate.....

    Remove number 1 plug....

Get said mate to stick his finger in the hole...... of number 1

turn engine over by hand.... Very important

when on comression stroke should hear a hiss emitting from said finger

line up timing mark to number 1 on pulley

  6. Aaah yes, the handling characteristics of the humble HQ.........the stuff of legend.

Hahaha yeah I remember way back when I was a lad doing donuts in the HK I could get it to do perfect circles on dirt (one front wheel staying in the one spot). HQ just couldnt do that..... I remember a mate having a HQ with a 350 and it would go sideways in a straight line doing a burnout, that was kinda cool tho....

  7. Hmmmm

EA-AU exhausts are plentiful down at U-Pullit and get the odd 2.5"too....

    I have a MIG......

Might have to invest in a pipe cutter I thinks......
