  1. All sorted today after spending lots of time and headaches, changing fuel rails, mucking around with heaps of different pumps, the car started and ran, thank god! All due to a dodgy fuel regulator and looks like my wiring is all good! Not bad for a 17 year old with no real electrical experience to wire up a fuel injected AU motor into a XC Falcon
  2. The Au was an auto to begin with and now is a manual. The ecu was however converted to a manual one via a J3 Chip. I but i dunno could be a possible issue. I connected the pump directly to the fuel rail so that should eliminate any pick up issues or blocked fuel lines.

Running dual fuel on AU 4.0L fitted into a XC

I understand what you are saying but it doesn’t worry me if the injectors fuck up and whatever it may stuff up because parts are cheap as chips for AUs eg: i can just get another engine for $250 and do all the work myself. The main reason duel fuel cars have problems is that most people constantly run them on gas only, thus the petrol becoming stale and then it’s when the all problems occur. My dad’s dual fuel EB did 270,000 before he sold it with no problems what’s so ever and his BA did 80,000 with no problems either. Sorry but i completely disagree are you serious in saying that there is no gain in converting to a 4litre? Is a leap in 20+ years of engineering + technology, more power+ torque, fuel injection and fantastic fuel economy not a gain? The crossflow may have been great in their day but they are a piece of shit compared to a 4.0L OHC & DOHC 6s. A stock 4.0l will rape the shit out of any stock crossflow and most worked ones as well and get 11L per 100km while at it. You can't compare the 2, it's like chalk and cheese. The 4.0L especially BF onwards DOHC is an Australian engineering master piece and IMO the best 6 cylinder ever made. The reason i'm doing a 4.0l conversion is beacuse i can't drive a clevo on my Ps even if could i probs wouldn't drive one with fuel costs, unfortunaly i don't have money coming out of my ass haha. The crossflow currently in the car is a gutless peice of shit even though it has a ported head, extractors and an exhaust system. It doesn't like to rev, sick of carbies and warm up time with cast iron head and if it wasn't for the gas it would probabaly use fuel like a clevo. keep in mind the car is a daily driver as well. Thanks for your input very helpful i'll just stick to the simple convertor type and looks like vapour injection is not worth the trouble if i want more power i'll just push the button and swtich over to petrol. Yeah that’s what I’m going to do it get it all running on straight petrol and drive it like that for a couple of months and what not testing the reliability of the conversion and fix all the tiny things that may come up. Then i will just get a complete gas setup off another au minus the tank and what is not needed and get my cousin a gas mechanic to hook it up and get it running on dual fuel

AU alternator and A/C compressor help

Ok Thom i took some pic of the engine and the alternator mounting points. Can please tell if it's a series 1 or 2 engine and what alternator it needs. To me it looks like series 2 engine as the mounting points look to be the same as my dad's territory but i'm no expect when it comes to late model falcons.

Running dual fuel on AU 4.0L fitted into a XC

Straight gas is out of the question (i just can't stand the restrictions that comes with it), i'd run it on straight petrol if i have to. With a J3 chip i can run two separate tunes (one for gas and one for petrol and switch tunes when fuel is changed) and have the best of both worlds. Dual fuel runs great on OHC 6s not like crossflow and clevos so there should be no reason for me not to take advantage of that considering the car already is running dual fuel with the Crossflow so the lines and tank is there just a matter of hooking up the AU engine bay gas gear and wire it all up.

AU alternator and A/C compressor help

Thanks mate for that, just one thing i'm confused on. You say that Ba alternators fit an Au series 2 or 3 engine (and 1999 Au) but isn't a 1999 AU a series 1??. The AU Engine in question is a may 1999 one and only has smart lock. So what are my options in regards to alterantors? It amazes me the sheer differences between early and late model AUs
  7. Thanks gromet88, the reason i am asking is that if i need a replacement ecu i can use any AU one. Keeping in mind this going to be for my 4.0l conversion for my xc and the ECU will be only used for engine management (using a T5). Anyways i asked the same question on another forum and i found out that if i wanted to run series 2&3 ECU into a wiring harness from a S1 it is just a matter of programing the j3 to also get rid of smart shield as well as the smart and swapping to a series 2&3 MAP sensor as Series 1 have a slightly different MAP sensor on the BBM manifold.
  8. Hi all, I was just after some info if you can you use a AU series 2 &3 ecu into a series 1 AU? Now i know that series 1 AUs did not come with smart shield or whatever you call it haha and just smart lock like E series falcons therefore it wouldn't probably work straight off the bat. But could you however use say for example a series 3 ECU with a J3 chip to get rid of smart shield & smart lock and whack it into the Series 1 AU? Will this work??. Also another question did Series 1 AUs come with OBD-2 ports or was that only on the series 2 and 3 and apart from series 1 AUs not having smart shield and therefore a different programed ecu, is there anything different on wiring side of things compared series 1 AUs with 2&3 AUs? Any help or ideas on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

    351C and 5 speed

For that price you could of fitted a t56 magnum which is much better gearbox than a standard tr6060 and the gear shift location would be in the same spot as per the factory.

    351C and 5 speed

I'm interested, Please post some pics and info on this.
  11. Hi all, I just purchased a single rail shifter saddle to fix the sloppy shifter on my xc but have no idea on how to fit it. It does not seem possible for it to fit. Now i know it comes in 2 different sizes (small and large), taking into consideration that the box and shifter came out of a XE i was told to get the smaller saddle. With the 2 different sizes although they have different measurements however the width is the same and that's what is not letting the saddle sit in place. I'll let the pics do the talking as it will do a much better job than just words. Any help what so ever will be greatly appreciated Cheers Giovanni
  12. That explains it as i couldn't work as why some 6cyl XEs had york compressors and other had the modern style ones. I've found a complete XD falcon for sale for a couple of $100 which i'm going to buy just for the A/C lines and i'll just get the connections changed to fit the compressor i have currently on. I'll wreck the rest of the car and hopefully it can fund all the a/c costs for the XC Thanks for the help mate.
  13. HI guys, Now i wasn't sure were a/c related things go on the forum so i decided to put in the 6cylinder section since my issue is in the engine bay, but Mods feel free to move it to another section if you want to do so. Anyways as some of you may know or those who follow my thread on the other forums, i got rid of the dealer fitted under dash system on my XC falcon and fitted the complete factory integrated a/c system that i rebuilt my self. The system works perfectly, heater works great, vacuum controls work as it should and there is not leaks whats so ever! But unfortunately i still haven't connected the a/c up and these is no a/c lines to connect the system up in the engine bay. Now with the summer already here, i can't wait any longer and want the a/c all connected and working asap. No my problem is since I'm not running a york compressor and a modern style rotary compressor i don't have any lines to bolt in. I was going to try and get a 6 cylinder a/c XD or ZJ a/c lines , along with fitting the condenser and just get the end connections to the compressor changed. Now these are some questions that i have if anyone knows the answer to What compressor do XEs crossflows run?, do they still use the york compressor like XDs or the same compressor as XFs? Would it be a good idea to run all XF a/c lines and get the tx valve connections changed to the XA-XE style? Are XD-XF condensers the same or do the connections go metric later on? Here are some pics the a/c setup currently on the car Any help , advice and ideas on the matter would be awesome. I drove the car yesterday in 30 degree heat sitting on vinyl seats and it wasn't very pleasant to say the least, not to mention the sheer frustration of having the a/c but not connected. Cheers Giovanni
  14. Not sure to be honest. Tack a pic of it and post it up on here, sure someone will know.
  15. So do you reckon the lines would bolt up to the compressor i have currently on or do i have to use the XE compressor? (happy to use the XE compressor as long as i don't have to run the piece of shit york compressor). That way i can run the complete XE engine bay lines and it will cost bugger all. New seals, condenser ,receiver dryer and bobs your uncle
  16. hahahah oh man you made my day, thanks mate
  17. Alright guys i sent a message to the company through ebay and this is there reply. They are offering a full refund so i'm happy and might shed some light into the matter to whom it may concern The email Hello Giovanni, thank you for your email. There are actually three possible options on the Borg Warner Single Rail Gear Box. Full dimensions and pictures are included in the sale to ensure a correct purchase can be made by our clients. Other than the two bushes we sell, there are a limited number of units that do not have a bush, mostly imported South African boxes, Replacement parts imported for Ford, some very early boxes and some 4 cylinder boxes that we have found. I am afraid there is no available information to confirm what or when these boxes were used. We have sold around 250 of the red units and 200 of the blue units since we started on eBay plus numerous other prior with only around 5 people in this time getting back to us to either receive a full refund or exchange for the other unit. You will find, in the case of your unit that the bushes diameter of the outer "U" is similar to the section it would be expected to sit on. I am afraid you will find that there was nota bush there in the first place nor when it was pulled apart. As such it is not meant to have one fitted. We do include as much information on the sizing of these units and do request that the purchaser ensures the unit is correct for their application prior to and during the purchasing process. However, as always, we are more than happy to either exchange or provide a full refund if the unit does not suit. Our return address is * i blocked it for privacy reasons* Please include a copy of your invoice. Kind regards, Guy
  18. So when you pulled it apart you already had a worn saddle in place? When i pulled mine apart ( Box and shifter came out of a 6cylinder XE Falcon, that my mate wrecked if that makes any difference) there was no sign or evidence of there ever being a saddle. This is honesty cooking my head some say saddles were only fitted on XF single rails, who the hell is right, no fucking clue. I just put the car back together today can't have the car sitting on stands for weeks. I guess i'll see it through till next yeah when i do the 4.0L conversion with a T5 and piss off the single rail.
  19. Well is there meant to be a bush there in the first place?, don't see the other one fitting either?
  20. Lever sits in correctly all the way in just wasn't in the photo.

    RRS Manual Steering Rack

From what i have been told manual steering racks have a heavier steering effort than a steering box of the same ratio. In regards to using a el or au rack i don't think it will be a good idea,Holden camira steering racks are said to be the go. Be careful with retro fitting your own rack as you will mostly likely end up with a shit load of bump steer.
  22. Go manual, non overdrive autos are boring and only good on the drag strip! What is the 6 speed you have?

    XB Log motor rebuild tips

I would fit a 2V head, Holley, cam, electronic dizzy and extractors. Is the car manual or auto? If it is auto i would do a manual conversion to get a bit more go. If you stick a t5 behind the log motor and 3:45 diff gears it should get it moving alright and you can make it look like it is just a stock 4 speed from the inside. By the way got any pics of the car ?
