  1. Thanks for all your help guys, I've decided to get the springs checked and if needed replace them to match a hydraulic roller cam. Was leaning towards something from comp cams as I hear a lot of people are using them on here. But that's all going on the backburner for the moment, I'll turn my attention to getting some new wheels for the fairlane.

    Cheers guys

  2. The heads definitely have a fair bit of work done, I plan on quite a few mods in the not too distant future, so instead of spending money to get the heads reconditioned, and then getting more work in the future decided to go for these.

I'll take a spring out and measure it up, see what I can find.

  3. G'day guys, I picked up some heads for my cleveland at a good price to replace my original old heads. Turns out they have had a bit of work done to them including triple valve springs. Now they are a bit extreme for what I'm wanting right now, and I figure they may have too much pressure for my standard lifters, cam and timing chain that in the engine now.

Question is can I simply replace the triple springs with singles? Or is it likely that the heads have been machine to accept these springs and singles will no longer fit?

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Cheers

  4. Mate that sucks, got me worried about doing it now. Anyone have any ideas of what's happening? Would be great if you didn't have to yank the motor out.

  5. I've always made sure to put the big factory air cleaner on before getting roadworthys, I figure it just makes it a bit harder to spot what carb you're running and hide the lack of EGR parts.

  6. I'd love to hear suggestions on this as well, I've got the same set up as you even with the 570 avenger. After something that sounds a bit tough but it will primarily be a cruiser.

  7. G'day guy, Ive had my ZJ Fairlane for around 6 months but only just got around to checking the distributor, well turns out its a points dizzy. Haven't pulled it out to measure the shaft. Just wondering if anyone has seen this before? I assume the electronic one has been replaced, just seems weird. Works well though lol

  8. Just replaced mine with some from ebay, seems like you have a few options, standard rubber ones costing you around the $40 a pair, or nolathane, whiteline poly ones that have grease nipples for $140 odd a pair. I think there are also roller spring saddles that use a bearing but I have no idea how much they cost.

  9. No need to take the column out, with the steering box removed just tap the end of the column down as far as it need to go to mate up with the top of the box. A slide hammer would probably help a lot.

I guess you could find an old ute without power steering to get the column out of.
