Well one has a pink wire other has a black one. Would assume black is neg? Cant touch with multi meter, rear window has stick on tint...
-
Right, put the multi meter on the demister today. At the contact points (where demister is joined to wires) I have 9ish volts. Therefore it must be the demister itself yeah?

That's interesting figures. I pay $100 for a full tank in the wagon which will get me 600km or so. That is the equivalent of what you pay in gas to do 600km. Out of curiosity, what was the wagon like when it was on gas?
-
Wagons are a bugger to fill... think its the design of the filler neck. Pump goes click, but if you go drive away you only have 3/4 a tank. Gotta spend 5 minutes slowly squeezing the trigger, waiting for fuel to go in, squeeze trigger... Even doing that the first bar goes down quick. Last bars seem to be longer. Ute is the other way around. You can do 200km on first bar. But once you get to half a tank you've gotmore like 1/4 or 3/8s. Hmm. Utes trip comp doesn't bring up stop lamp light. Might test it in wagon.

60 something L or optional 80/90L long range tank? Brads Ghia has the long range one, but I don't think he's fully filled it... he stopped once it took $120 worth.
-
Much cheaper up there then. Down here petrol is $1.45 or 1.41 with those fuel vouchers - not that they help much. Saved less than $3 on $100 fuel. We probably have a few more gas cars than one Although one less since my wagon motor was rebuild.

Drive on petrol? Problem solved

My DTE is accurate says about 680km when full to the brim - discovered wagons have more than 70L tanks the other day when.mine took 80L. Was almost out of fuel though. Comp said 23km to empty... I've never had it that low before. I like the other features... fuel economy is nice to watch, fuel used is handy (in case the dte was to be wrong). Having three trip meters can be good sometimes. Time I don't worry about though. On topic of brake light thing, could it be tied to number of brake lights in the vehicle? I noticed Panko's Ghia has a high mounted brake light But mine doesn't? Once again, more/less resistance theory would come into play.
-
You'd think so... Mind you, Ford did only put the date in them up to 1999, they're 14 years past the end of their own time I have been thinking for some time now, its the resistor that tends to fail and brings the light on right? If so - would this idea be possible (I have no idea about electrics like this so it may be a rather stupid idea I dunno...)? Would it be possible to get a resistor of some sort and wire it into the circuit? I may be wrong, but from what I can tell, the circuit works similar to the way an indicator flashes fast when blown? The lack of resistance causes the light to flash faster - also happens if the wrong wattage bulb is installed. The xf trip comp must be similar, when brake light blows, resistance is lower and brings on the light.

Did you have any luck with this? My wagon does it (brings on the stop lamps warning light). All (both) brake lights are working. I too would quite like to fix it if possible...

what brand brakes and suspension to buy
Mr Polson replied to jamie247's topic in Steering, Suspension and Brakes
DBA rotors, Bendix pads. Kings vs Pedders, IMO (I have both btw), Kings are a harsher, stiffer ride (better handling). Pedders are softer and more comfy. -
I've been told prepsol and heat gun/hair drier will help get it off.

Installing a ghia interior light over standard?
Mr Polson replied to mcfly94's topic in Interior and Car Audio
They nearly all get that hole... Beautiful thing about the gl light is its the same from XR to XF, easy and cheap to get new ones. That said, probably isn't that hard to get covers for the Ghia style ones either. -
Wanting to do an oil change in my Ghia wagon, it's now done 2,500km since the motor was rebuilt. Question is, do I just use normal oil ( Penrite HPR 20/60 (I think) is what I use in my ute), or should I use something else?

I have mine running off my rear demister switch (utes don't have the demister). Bonus of that is light in dash to remind me the fans are on. I like Pete's setup though... Something I may consider as at the time I just needed fans in and working.
-
I can't remember if I put up any pics of my install in my ute thread... Mine is damn simple (ran in through a manual switch). Earth the negative wires from thermos to vehicle close to radiator. Join poisitve wires and run them to the relay being used. Wire from relay to 12v positive on battery. Wire from relay to switch that turns fans on and off. Despite many suggestions, I went manual switch, to prevent them.coming on if not needed or wanted. Plus one less thing to break. I reckon I've turned them on four times maybe? Including when I was hauling a trailer the other week. Majority of cooling is done via airflow not fans,.unless.idling or in slow traffic.
-
You will mind if they're flat out non stop... Your car won't warm up and run properly if they are. Also it'd most likely kill your battery, a normal XF alt will struggle with the drain of thermos. You can either have them on a manual switch or wired to a thermostatic switch. You'd also need a relay.

Nah no heat gun. I had heard.it can be risky, which is why I was slow and careful.

I done a real backyard job... Used a baseball bat, had a mate hold it as I edged forwards... Worked fine. Cracked the paint right on the edges, but needs repainting anyway.

squeaky steering column
Mr Polson replied to adrianphu123's topic in Steering, Suspension and Brakes
Mine was doing this, i ended up tracking it down to the adjustment, is your column adjustable up/down? -
Washer bottles are different, XF Ghia has a sensor in the bottle. I reckon it's the sensor in the bottle being dodgy.
-
It could be right still, the 72, or 78, or 84 refers to the year it was originally designed and used, it its unchanged since 72, then it would still read 72DA. For example, LTD bumpers all have 78DA on them - or all the ones I've seen - because they didn't change since then.
-
Definitely not H3s, that's the spotlight type globe in the headlights for high beam.

Without looking at similar items (other new Clevo alts), $220 odd seems a bit cheap for an alternator... Especially if its been chromed. Depending on how rich you feel, you could buy a proper Ford/Bosch one, and the chrome one, and put the good stuff in the shiny housing?
-
Okay, so I'm yet to actually have anyone wheel align my ute properly. I can visually see the camber on the front wheels (it looks like a damn V8 Supercar!!). So I want to have a go at adjusting mine, myself. How do you adjust it? Its a XF.
