  1. ported gt40p heads, ported au lower/upper manifold (with 1 inch plenum spacer). 70mm EGR and TB, AU XR8 S3 MAF. BA 6 cyl injectors and J3 chipped.

going in for a dyno tune on the 20th Jan, for diagnostics as it doesn't run properly. Idle hunt and too rich.

  2. I have an ed xr8 engine which I want to convert to carb. what exactly is involved?

do I need to change the timing cover?

what dizzy and coil can I use?

its got gt40ps, and I think that should be an issue.

the engine is midly worked. strong bottom end, and a baby cam. I plan on using the edelbrock air gap manifold and maybe a holley sec vac or dp.

can the btr be used without the ecu? or I might go AOD as I still want to have 4 speed. is there any other trans I could use?

    cheers

  3. Hmmm. Sounds interesting. Im in the RAA (SA's version of road side assistance, so i might push it out on the street and give them a call.

When i described the cut out at high revs. It was when im cruising along at, say 90, and i nail it. Itll drop to second, and will cut out at approx 4500rpm and start surging. Ive got fuel, as im running 29lb injectors and a walbro 255lph pump. Fuel filter is new

  5. i have gt40ps on my ed xr engine. they've been opened up quite a bit. bigger valves and lots of porting. I also run an au lower/upper manifold which has been port matched to the heads. 1 inch spacer for the plenum. edelbrock 70mm egr and tb. au xr s3 maf. BA 6 cyl injectors (which are 29LB). Pushing almost 200rwkw. Opened up the engine quite nicely. Oh, its J3 chipped too.

  6. I have an efi 302 in my zk. engine had to brought forward 40mm as the aircon comp was hitting the strut tower. btr will fit with a small amount of mods to the crossmember. I have an engine and trans from an ED XR8, tailshaft is NC, diff is EF XR6, with ED brakes, lmao.

  7. I did think about carb, but i wanted something different, more reliable and better drivability. When you start modifying you sacrifice something. I would strongly advise doing your homework before even contemplating an efi conversion. Ive had quite a bit of small issues that have been hard to diagnose. If i could go back and start again. I would go carb. The amount of money ive invested, i could of had a 450hp stroker. Instead i have a 180rwkw engine. Mind you the bottom end is stock.

Mines a 1984, but v8 was still an option before the release of the ZL/XF. If you want to do an efi conversion in a ZL/XF. You can. Just cant go from efi to carb.

Im running a btr 4 speed from the same car (ED XR8)

My console is still standard. Hasnt been modified.

The engine and trans ECU are mounted in the passenger footwell. I used a NC Fairlane loom with ECU and J3 chip.
