    Air shocks xf ute

Looking a lot better even with only 1 bag installed. I got it fitted tonight after work and ran out of time for the other side. Will add more photos when I'm finished it completely.

    Mig welders!

I bought this for about $475 and it came with a gas regulator, a roll of gas wire, a roll of gas less wire and a few spare tips. It has a 15 amp plug which was fine but the best thing I like about it is the euro connector on the torch. If the torch ever gives you trouble, it's just a matter of screwing it off the front of the machine and getting it fixed. As the pic shows, the torch isn't on it but it does come with the welder. I've welded 2-10mm mild steel with it very well. I love it for the price.

    Air shocks xf ute

So I decided to go with the aftermarket air bag kit from an Aussie made and owned company. Will add photos and results as soon as I get them installed.

    Stripped sump plug

Hi all, just wondering if anyone can help me with a stripped sump plug on my xf ute. I changed the oil today and the plug was tight all the way when I was removing it and when I went to put it back in, it didn't tighten. I pulled it back out again to find the threads had pulled off the sump plug bolt. I ran a die but over it and a 12mmx 1.25mm fitted nicely and cleaned up the thread but there is a narrow part half way along the sump plug. Can anyone confirm if this is the correct size if I order a new one, being a 91 model crossflow I have heard that they are smaller thread than the older crossflows that had 1/2" fine threaded bolts.

    Stripped sump plug

I should have been better organised and had a clean container to catch the oil so I could take my time and inspect the thread properly. Being pushed for time and I tried to block the hole with 1 hand and then quickly screw the bolt into it with the other hand. After it finally started to screw in, it just got excessively tight so I assumed that the thread was the wrong pitch.

    Stripped sump plug

Aaaaargh, I tried to plug my sump with a 12mm x 1.25 bolt modified to suit my sump but it didn't want to screw in. Might be 12mm x 1.5 thread. I might have to drop my oil into a clean container and put a thread measuring tool into the hole to determine proper thread pitch.

    Door hinge kits?

So I had a look at my hinges during my smoko break and someone has put new bushes in and hadn't knocked the pin properly into its location and that's where the play was coming from. I knocked them in properly and they barely drop. It wouldn't have done much good for the hinge bushes but it will be ok for now.

    Door hinge kits?

Yeah my 91 xf has a few xg type things on it. I've already stripped 2 of the torx bolts so I might try to leave it all bolted up and remove the pins while I hold the door level. That's a handy tip of going through the inner guard anyway thanks mate

You should have seen me trying to go upside down and trying to fit my guts under the glovebox earlier, can't have been pretty ha ha

    Door hinge kits?

Cheers mate, that was a great explanation with plenty of little tips. As soon as I get some spare time I will try to get it sorted.

    XE climate controls

Bear, you might have just solved my problem. I could see the arm from the actuator but couldn't see the smaller arm that is broken here. I'm guessing mine might be moving a small amount but when pressure gets on it, it moves on the broken arm

    XE climate controls

Yeah most of the foam has broken down and fallen off, it sounds like you're spot on. I was lucky enough with my xf sedan to flick the flap open and closed a few times by hand and some stray foam fell out and it worked perfect again but my ute is being more difficult.

    XE climate controls

Hmmmm, is it the flap that is behind the glove box? I watched mine slowly open and close but it seemed sluggish. I could see the whole lever coming from the actuator and there isn't any broken pieces. Will be busy for a couple of days so I might have to get back to it later in the week.

    Door hinge kits?

They might have been done before then coz there is definitely no burrs. I was considering cutting the hinge but I reckon welding a nut on the shagged bolt might be easier. As long as I have a hose at the ready

    Door hinge kits?

So can anyone help me with the bolts on my ute door hinges, they are countersunk with a tork bit head and I've stripped the bottom 2 bolts on the passenger door as I tried to remove the door off the hinges. I tried to get vice grips on the inside of the door panel but couldn't loosen the bolts. Could I remove the inner mudguard plastic and undo both hinges from the pillar or is it possible to take off the circlips and bash the pins out to get the door off. The pins don't seem to be burred over, they have a slight taper on the end of them and a circlip holding them in place.

    XE climate controls

Would this system apply to an xf? My ute is letting in a lot of cold air into the passenger side footwell when travelling regardless of if I have the switch on fresh air or recirculating. The control lever seems to be opening and closing with the car idling but don't think it is holding it shut once up to road speed. I thought maybe the air is forcing the flap open as I travel forward so maybe the vacuum isn't strong enough to keep the flap shut. Any thoughts?

    Stripped sump plug

Thanks for confirming that mate, hopefully I can get hold of the right one to suit my sump at the local Repco.

    Stripped sump plug

Cheers Mark, it's got pretty good thread at the start of the thread so I've put a spacer washer on it in the meantime so that the good threads are contacting each other until I can get a new one

    Bonnet adjustment

Hi all, just wondering if anyone can help me with my xf ute bonnet. It sits slightly higher than the mudguards which isn't much of an issue but the worst part is that once I get up to highway speed, it seems to slightly lift up and drop down on its own giving the appearance of it going to come up over the windscreen. Is there a way that I can adjust the bonnet catch to hold it down firmer.
  21. Ando81

    Bonnet adjustment

Yeah I guess so, the new aftermarket ones on eBay are improved and actually have that section cut away to allow for access to the bolts.
  22. Ando81

    Bonnet adjustment

    Jeez, that's pretty slack.
  23. Ando81

    Bonnet adjustment

Ha ha, I reckon I have seen some of them with a cutout for the bonnet catch. I thought this might have been thrown in by a rough panel beater at some stage. Or is it the norm on other xf's?
  24. Ando81

    Bonnet adjustment

I found these were loose when I went to adjust the catch height mate, I tightened these up and the catch was a good height so it's all sweet.
  25. Ando81

    Bonnet adjustment

    Yeah mate, all good now.
