If I removed my ecu from my 93 XG falcon ute and put it back in say a couple of days later, do you need to do anything before you start the motor? I just got it running from a starting issue I had and I decided I would fix some of the wiring someone had cut + joined on the ecu loom. Which is why I had removed ecu, but now it seems that the timing is way out and the car wont start and if it does, it sounds like the timing is way out of whack.

Just an update I done the distributor cap as per this http://rae.com.au/assets/Uploads/Ford-CFI-MPI-Distributors-key-inspection-notes.pdf wondering if this is correct for my 93 xg ute ?
-
Yeah all clip on fine and got 8mm bosch leads, there were 10mm bosch leads that i was going to grab but original ones were 8mm so went with them packed up for the day, will have a look tomorrow. I think I will pull no 1 spark plug and spin crank to tdc and check rotor to verify all is good with dizy/cap. I know there is someone silly I've done somewhere which I'll find one day
-
Pretty sure I did check prior but not 100% sure as it was hard to see under there, I had a piece of paper from the box that had the new dizzy in when the last owners apparently put it in and it had some diagram of the dizzy so I went of that.

mmm, I wondering now if I put the leads back on the right spots on the dizzy cap. going off firing order on inlet 153624 number 1 on cap I have is the first one on the left of the wiring connector, then going clockwise 153624 could someone verify this is correct as I can't find a pic on google for the cap locations

Kool, hope so will check wiring hoses as I was playing around with putting leads on the dizzy (what a job that is... poor design).

Yes I did, as the battery was on a charger

Little background : I got a 1993 XG ute little over a week ago which wasn't running, apparently had starting issues and was told smartlock issue possibly hence my other thread 'http://www.ozfalcon.com.au/index.php?/topic/8103-93-xg-ute-smartlock-or-not/ Doesn't have a smartlock and issue was no power to injectors plus not priming on ignition which I figured out was the wiring for lpg which it was dual fuel at one stage of its life (thanks to some users here and other ford forums) I have removed all traces of the lpg wiring from under dash and where it was spliced into the injector loom back of inlet manifold. which has come to my starting issue thread now I rejoined the cut wires and now have power to injectors (progress ) issue now is when I turn the ignition on it doesn't prime the system but it did the first time I tried after joining the injector loom and started up no problems (sounded nice ) would the ignition switch itself be faulty if only primes every now and then or am I barking up the wrong tree and should look else where first ???

Probably was the relay, I'll test another one tomorrow to see what the go is, but it does seem strange both the ea and xg relays did the same on both cars, not connected to fender and no prime, connect to fender and it primes.... possibly a X-file :)
-
Update First thanks to everyone for there help The issue was the fuel relay bracket I tested the relay on my ea falcon but this time I was lazy and didn't screw the relay back onto the fender before I tested the relay and the same thing happened as my xg, no priming when the ignition was turned on. So I grabbed the ea relay with the bracket on it and put it on the xg and screwed it to the fender and all systems go so that bracket must have some sort of grounding effect for the relay ?????

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure Megasquirt uses a map sensor instead of maf sensor
-
Might be on to something there as whoever done the wiring for the lpg/petrol switch did run a wire off the back of the diagnostic plug (top right pin of plug)
-
That was my plan for tomorrow, forgot about earth near dizzy will look at that one too, cheers
-
mine has no smartlock I think as it has the window for it in the cluster but never lights up so I should be fine with early nineties up to my 1993 without smartlock
-
I have just got a 1993 xg ute, it has starting issues apparently (last owner said) I have had it running this morning for about ten minutes then died now just turns over but no start My question is does the 93 xg falocn ute have a smarlock or not ? if so where is it located a little googling and some say it is above the handbrake lever but I have taken the lower dash panel off and had a look and is only 3 relays there, 2 small ones and 1 large one.

Progress, I removed all wiring for lpg and reconnected where lpg was spliced in the loom, so now have power to injectors but ignition don't want to prime the system. It did once when I played around with relay and it started and ran nice but now no priming when ignition is turned on. Did the cluster come default with the small rectangle 'smart lock' window as I have just noticed with the glare of the sun it has the window for it in the cluster (first one bottom left hand side) but it never lights up when ignition is switched on.???

Cheers for the info, I was just going to grab the whole ignition with new key and just plug it in to see if it works and if so I will then take mine apart and fit the replacement. Hopefully it is as simple as a bad ignition....... I can't wait to get the xg out and about and see how she runs :)
-
Yeah I might pop down to the wreckers next week and grab an ignition just to see.... I can always take it back if I don't need it
-
I'm wondering if I could rejoin the wiring where the gas part was spliced in the loom I have some pics from under the dash and the relay it joins to Only thing not sure about is the solenoid that is under the expansion tank and earthed to the strut
-
True, will pick up a O2 sensor today and temp sender too as noticed it needs a new one On the other ford forum someone suggested a quick test for fuel pump/wiring/relay was to earth the top right pin of the diagnostic plug under the dash and fuel pump should run continuiously, which it did. What does this suggest if that worked but turning the ignition ON doesn't prime the pumps/system ???
-
Cheers for the info Come to think of it the O2 sensor is stuffed, well there is no plug on the end of it would the O2 sensor prevent the car from starting if not connected ? I think I do have one somewhere I can throw on. Not sure what dizzy it is, part no:- DB605nc from rae.com.au (had the box in the car when I got it and still had a brand new coil in it, albeit no-name brand)
-
The XG came with a new dizzy already installed plus a new coil from rae.com.au will check the ecu pin 97 Thanks for the help btw I assuming there is a bad wire somewhere that has turned the fuel pump/relay off thinking it is on gas
-
wonder if there is a way to bypass all this gas via the ecu rather than trying to figure out what wire is what and how it all works
-
Mine is black plug with grey relay same as my ea therre is a green plug with black relay next to it which the Falcon/fairlane 1988-1994 workshop manual has it as cpu power ??? but I did change both just in case but still no go checked for power to the relay and found out that there is no power going to the fuel pump relay so now I will need to check the ignition side of things (oh what a mess under the dash) wires have been spliced into other wires and into the ignition loom ( please wake me up from this nightmare :)
-
mmm, starting issues still fuel pump only primes every now and then but once does, the motor runs but then dies looks like I need to go over wiring or check relays or maybe idle control thingy ??? who knows oh yeah I replaced the coil just in case p.s ithe xg use to be dual fuel gas/petrol but only petrol now so wondering if there is something on the gas side of things stopping it from starting ???
