Is that standard rotation setup? If so it’s the same as mine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    302 Cleveland Build

My XD many moons ago had a stock 302c, 600 Holley, headers and a std stall C4 with 2.92 gears. The best bang for buck was the 3:45 XG xr6 ute diff, made a good improvement and could smoke both wheels. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Some real good advice here guys. Money doesn’t travel far. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well the 289 I scored turned out to be an XW 302, the block is original bore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I got hooked on Windsor’s back in 1998 when a mate of mine brought an XW with a factory 302w, had headers and a 4 barrel carb, apart from that it was pretty stock, it revved hard and went really well. Not long after that I got a ED XR8 Sprint, and couldn’t keep up with the XW. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’m a huge fan of the windsor, most falcon guys are clevo fans, and I think the windsor is sort of like an underdog down this side of the world. Head selection was pretty shit until alloys came about at an affordable price, so you can see why Cleveland’s were easy to get power from. But put a 302c and 302w std for std against each other and see who comes out on top. Not that anyone really has a std motor these days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I probably wouldn’t bother building a std stroke 351w, doesn’t really cost you that much more to do a stroker than it would on a 302, and you could go right out to 408 cubes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’m not sure about the older flat tappet Windsor’s, but the E series roller onwards did. I went with ARP when I did my windsor, wasn’t that much more expensive and are reusable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’ve seen a few 331w built with AFR 185 heads and decent cam and yeah they really turn on. But with the GT40p heads it won’t go as good as it should, they are a mild factory head suited to a 302 at best. Will just make 302 power lower in the rpm range. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The AU spec Windsor’s are a better base, the GT40p head isn’t to bad for a factory iron head and flow similar to a stock Cleveland head in flow numbers. They arent too difficult to get moving along with a cam change, the 99 Fairlane will have the factory 175kw, which with a cam change and headers will bump it right up to around 210-220kw. The E303 cam will see that easy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You can see why a set of headers wakes these babies up a bit, those manifolds are so restrictive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes, were they new bolts you fitted? They had torque to yeld head bolts from the factory that are a one time use as they stretch. That bumpstick is a little to mild for me, my next build is having something around .600 lift and 240-250 duration. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

With the roller 5.0 blocks all the bottom row of head bolts go into the water jacket. The top row should be blind. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Small base circle roller cams are commonly called retro fit roller hydraulic cams to suit the non roller blocks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Coming along nicely! Don’t forget to use thread sealer on the head bolts that go into the water jackets. Get some AU spec rocker cover gaskets, they are reusable and seal perfectly, I don’t like the cork ones at all. Same with the manifold ends, just use sealer and use a bit around the water ports as well, I’m sure you are all over this though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A few cams come with two different length pins to suit the fuel pump eccentric, most flat tappet and retro fit rollers. You can buy specific timing chain and gears to suit efi/roller cams and fuel pump eccentrics. Summit and eBay have all the bits. I learnt all this buy converting mine...brought a few bits twice in my learning... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You can buy about 6 different front covers for Windsor’s, ones to suit reverse rotation but has the fuel pump hole, standard with or without fuel pump, ones with the crank angle sensor....mix in match... My one is standard rotation, with the crank angle sensor and fuel pump boss. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Unless you put the pump cam on the timing chain there isn’t much point in the old style. You would also need to change the pin on the camshaft to extend out so it can connect with the fuel pump cam. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think with my current 302 I might just keep leaning on it and see what happens, if it grenades then it’s a good excuse to build it better. I wanted the 289 for old school high rpm with big alloy heads and the go fast bits. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah you would be right, I have read a few articles where the blocks are ok NA with internal balancing (aftermarket steel cranks etc) and spinning them over 7 grand with no issues, so yeah the harmonics must be the main issues. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
