Like revhead said, just use them until funds are ready, it will still run. My headers cost 700 including freight, great thing is they drop straight into the xd bay with the Windsor in place.
-
The factory headers are shithouse, you can get hurrican or pacemaker to suit Windsor into xd-xd, nice 4-1 or tri-y, but pricey.

http://www.jegs.com/photos/jegskaase.html 511 hp at 7800rpm, with kaase heads and solid roller.

http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/116_0307_ford_302_v8_engine_buildup/ This is the 400hp 302w with just afr 165 heads, 1.7 rockers and 6200rpm. There has been alot of talk about this article on the mustang forums. If replacing the heads and manifolds, may as well do a decent cam, the original is about 444 in lift and around 266 total duration. There is another article of the junk yard 302w with a cam and head package that made over 500hp at some stupid rpm of about 8000rpm. I'll find it.

Yes the look very tiny hiding away in the bay.

The cam chain standard us a roller type, not like the old clevo ones. You could get a set of 1.7 ratio bolt on roller rockers. I wouldn't bother sourcing any old 289/302 heads, you aren't gaining anything, unless some ones already spent money on them. Read up on the 5.0 mustang websites, it will blow your mind what the yanks do. One of the best cams for boost, off the shelf is the f303 ford racing.
-
That's pretty bad ass, would be some serious engine, not street friendly.
-
Don't the xf have the dual bolt holes in the floor for the mount?
-
Seems it comes down to cost vs benefits, put a clevo in it, be much easier given your emission laws.
-
There is no welding required. A Windsor uses the same mounting positions as a Cleveland, you can bolt up any gearbox, c4, top loader, single rail etc. late model 5.0 use 50oz external balance, so have to be sure if requiring flywheel or flexplate etc. Any 302w intake will fit, best bang for buck is a dual plane, ignition can be any drop in dizzy, but if going to a billet core after market cam, you would need a specific hardened gear. Also if not using the factory e or a series front dress, you need an early water pump set up as the late motors run a reverse rotation pump due to the belts. Stock for stock the later au series 302 will run rings round a old 302c.
-
That would be cool, I should have the XD on the road in a couple of months and a drive to taupo would be a good run in excuse for a beer etc.
-
I'm in Wanganui, lower north island. I'm in Christchurch in a couple of days so I'll go and check them out. Cheers.

Its no harder than clevo, performance parts are easily found, esp out of the states and generally cheaper over a clevo. They are physically smaller in the engine bay making it easy to drop in with or without headers. 6500 is a few revs, and the 302w would have stopped making power standard anyway, being a roller cam is super reliable. I wouldn't say clevos are better engine overall, they have their own issue's.

I have the au series in my xd. Easy to convert to carb, its whether its legal where you are etc, in NZ its easy. Do you intend to run power steer a/c? I used srd Cleveland mounts, block is same 6 bolt as Cleveland. I'll add more later, stuck in traffic atm.

Any kiwis on here that know a good place to get springs reset in NZ?
-
That's a good gain, considering it dropped off before 600 previously. Good work!
-
Wicked, some Windsor gear, I'll be watching closely.
-
Keep up the top work, I love reading this stuff.

Can 5.0L injection (of eb/ed/ef/el/au) be fitted to any 302?
NZXD replied to mcfly94's topic in Windsor
The only reason I would keep the e7s and ho manifold was for a low cost turbo set up. You can't give that shit away, I'm sure if I cut my lungs out and put them on the 5.0 it would breath better. in saying that, the fox body mustangs went ok with them, but are about 200kg lighter than the eb etc. -
If you leave the efi on it yes, put a carb on it = no.
-
I had a poly green sprint, the photos I have of the colour looks wat different, but different shape, weather, light etc. My xd sedan is painted in Seduce, but when you look at BA-FG painted in seduce, looks different shade. Must come down to boxy vs curvy body shapes.
-
Yeah I had to because they were 10 inch wide, I have 8.5 inch pro on at the moment with 5 inch back space with no issues. Loots of room on the inside.
-
Back wheels will be fine, not sure on the front.
-
I have a slow build thread under NZXDs money pit, there's a few picks with them. 10 inch with 0 offset filled the guard completely, right out to the egde, looked awesome.
-
I had fr17 Simmons on my xd, they were 10 inches wide on the back with 0 offset.
