  1. So you don’t think it’s ball joints, it can’t be as they’ve been done

would it more likely be control arm bushes or sway bar links or the sway bar bushes

is it possible to be shockers as when you do the bounce front doesn’t sink down and it goes back up straight away

its only there when slowing down and/or braking

otherwise it drives well always starts first go in morning

  2. hi

just a question what causes a creek or minor knock from front suspension on a ba at low speed going straight and turning corners if the ball joints were done in last couple years and were ok when last serviced about a month ago

have a ba that has minor creek/knock at front suspension and jacked one side just to get a idea and the front wheel on that side had no play when holding it at the 12:00 and 6:00 positon and the 3:00 and 9:00 position

the creek seems to come from the middle and is there when going straight at low speed and slowing down and goes away at higher speed.

it cant be the ball joints as they were replaced in last couple years and from research into common front suspension faults it seems the next common fault is sway bar link pin

  3. Hi everyone

Was just wondering you know how years back in the ef/el possibly au most of you did the thermo fan relay mod as in add another relay and connected to aircon pump so the fans cycle all time as the clutch cuts in and out, would that relay mod also work on the ba to fg

Below diagram pin out may help you work out answer

Pin 30 to high speed wire on factory relay block
    Pin 87 to ground
    Pin 86 to aircon pump
    Pin 85 to ground

also in a ba is it ok to hot wire the fan relays on low speed all time as in ground the blue wire for low speed with it being left connected to the ecu pin and leave rest as is and leave low speed connected to ecu or will it damage it

usually the ecu earths the relays when it senses temp and turns on fans

    Thanks

You might have to wait for someone who knows a bit more about nc/nl fairlanes.

Count the pins on the V8 ecu , if its 60 odd, then that's an AU set up. If it's 40 odd its EL.

    Vote for what?

Means vote for what would be best option

at moment doing a table up of the pin number and colour of each wire on both the ed v8 ecu and el v8 ecu and what each does to compare  for example each row will have the pin number of the ed v8 ecu then the colour of that wire in the ed then the function then the pin number or the el v8 ecu and the colour of the wire in the el

ED and EL are same number of pins for ECU. EL ecu plugs straight in.
Should only have to change the wiring in the engine bay if going from 6 to 8.
May need a few other things, but that's a start.

its to convert from 6 cyl to v8 the plugs for ecu in v8 seems to be different but in 6 cyl it as you said looks to be same, what would you do out those options

  6. hi everyone

have managed to get the nc fairlane harnesses to retain the ed dashboard when converting to v8 and had hoped that the el v8 ecu would plug in but apparently the ecu plugs are different

to make the el v8 ecu work am going to have to do following

    1. use diagrams and cut off nc ecu plug and solder the nl v8 ecu plug after cutting it off the nl v8 harness leaving a bit of wire on it.

    2. use full nl v8 harnesses and bcm but change plugs to make the ed dashboard and interior work and solder in smartlock module plug to use as a central locking module and change dashboard fusebox to the ed setup.

    3. use ed/nc harnesses but fit a au 5.0 ecu setup using a standalone harness and use the au ecu for engine and the ed/el ecu for rest of car

which option would you go with as also want to retain the ed dashboard and interior and the cruise control system or atleast the buttons

  7. Hi everyone

just posting the xf wiring diagrams on here for anyone to have a look at if theyre trying to find wiring faults or using a ea-el ecu and engine bay harness to convert to fuel injection or to update the ecu and remove airflow meter.

  8. Hi

has anyone got pictures of that plug under the brake booster in a xf where the efi harness plugs into and ifso is there a chance it can be shared.

Seen people fitting e series ecu to x series and using that plug and wanting a picture of the plug with pin out diagrams to have a look at

If anyone has pictures of that plug and pin outs and can share it that’d be great

does the xe and xd model have that plug too

    thanks

  9. thats plan get the drivers seatbelt fixed replace that trim, have another boot harness and license plate light harness to replace that broken black rubber bit that goes between the boot and body on the boot lid harness and obviousley a 300,000 looked after car will be better than one thats done half that thats been and done burnouts if you get idea and just try keep on top of it and get things done as they need doing so it doesnt add up

  10. engine still goes well, has done 251000km

have had to have all new brake hoses and new ball joints and new idler pulleys and harmonic balancer and oneday may need new shockers and pads and disks but probably not for a while, spose you got no choice but to throw parts at it or put in a transmission if moneys not quite saved for next one when time comes where it starts having trouble. would the ba be ok kept past 300,000 as the b series dont usually give much trouble if maintenance is kept up if moneys not saved without financing when time comes or would it better to try have the money saved when it gets to 300,000

because its usually cheaper to throw parts at cars and keep going till they die then change them and at moment throwing parts at it constantly or putting in for example a transmission or fix aircon is only option when the time comes due to not having the dollars without financing and what happens depends if money is saved

  11. Middle age cars are fine if you keep them up just wondered the point where they usually start causing problems.

will it be ok driving the ba till it completely dies or is completely worn out or try have the money for next one when that one gets to about 300,000 chances are will probably drive it till it dies

can probably buy a good BA these days for $2000  getting closer to 20yrs old though

only a base model you can fairmont ups still go for atleast double for a good one

what mileage and age do ba bf usualy start having lots trouble, engine and gearboxes seem to last forever if maintenance is kept up

which antenna would you go with out these for am/fm/dab https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Shakespeare-AM-FM-On-Glass-Antenna-4353/283153196068?epid=1511815749&hash=item41ed3ee424:g:HUkAAOSw~w5eLpF- or https://www.gme.net.au/catalogue/antennas/amfm-and-mobile-phone/aem3.aspx

  13. hi

also is it going to be ok to drive the ba or stay with the plan of driving your main everyday cars until it dies or are completely worn out if the moneys not there to buy the next one without financing anything when the time comes that it starts needing one thing after another and put up with it until they die.

what age and mileage do the b series normally start needing one thing after another, normally the engine goes for about 500,000-800,000km, there are taxis with about that on the clock that have maybe gone through a transmission, maybe a diff and just little things once in a while thats it and there are still good b series with over 300,000 on the clock.

a 350,000km looked after car is alot better than a 120,000km car thats gone and done burnouts every second day and never serviced if you get the idea.

the ef had about 290,000km when it started needing one thing after another and thats about when the head gasket started going.

  14. hi

have a ba ghia and was wondering about the antenna where are good places to mount a antenna for am/fm that looks good. want one of those external types that normally go outside either https://www.ebay.com.au/i/231884683178?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-139619-5960-0&mkcid=2&itemid=231884683178&targetid=482048470725&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9071024&poi=&campaignid=7408110613&mkgroupid=79663541934&rlsatarget=pla-482048470725&abcId=1139406&merchantid=107435770&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpa6W3d3u5wIVUz5gCh1s8QzkEAQYAyABEgIOg_D_BwE or https://aerpro.com/ap218sf or https://aerpro.com/ct27uv56 or https://aerpro.com/apm03 or similar to this https://aerpro.com/ap62

also will need a dab splitter too if chosen antenna doesnt have dab plug.

can the stubby or sharkfin antennas be mounted on parcel shelf and will it be ok if its secure and not blocking view and you only drill through the carpet.

will mounting a am/fm/dab antenna that looks like a uhf antenna (first link) on the license plate light bar mount be ok and will it look neat, can you hide a antenna behind bumper or under parcel shelf and what will performance be like with those options.

    really need some answers

    thanks

  15. hi

will cutting the speaker cables to icc damage it if you heatshrink the wires going to that after.

or would you be better running new cables for speakers, theres a youtube channel showing the cables being cut and the icc ends being insulated.

also want to ask is pioneer smartsync same as apple carplay seems both will read out messages and navigate with phones app.

also you know how you usually seperate the rca and power cable for amp, could they go together is its not possible, what would you do if together is only option.

    thanks for any help
