0-90ohm fuel sender to xf (volatge) gauge PROJECT

Thanks for another idea, though of incorporating a couple of transistors into my design also but the voltages were so close with a simple voltage divider and 7805 reg that I did not bother. The sender unit I am using is not 0 to 90 ohm though. Have written it down somewhere but dont remember right now. It's a factory xg - xh tank and sender unit with pump and all evap system to satisfy those peski engineers which is another discussion I will have at a later date.

I believe engineers at the time felt it would be more reliable to not use a float with moving parts, but they did not take into account the way fuel changed in chemical composition and the reaction it had on the components, as for my design, primitive yes but functional also. Digital is good too but I fail to see the reason to over engineer the shit out of a fucking Guage interface unit. A capacitor works as well as a timer ic and is cheaper and more than likely avalable as a replacement component for allot longer. Have too big a shed build at the moment going on right now so the old girl is side lined for now safely in a mates garage. Will resume when I finish the build.

    XE Speedo and Odometer Issue

Good to look at, wait till you have to fix the bloody thing, at least now I know how everything has been made to work and can doa few thingson it. The next time its in wil take a pic and post it.

I need one that does 2 ohms to 190 ohms which is the value of my new sender unit.

    XE Speedo and Odometer Issue

There is a gear on the output shaft of the tranny. From memory the fmx automatig has teeth cut into the output shaft as it is 31 spline, otherwise all the others have a plastioc gear on the output shaft.

Thanks mate, that was what I was going for.

    XE Speedo and Odometer Issue

There is battery voltage on the red wire, white wire is the pulse out, black wire is ground. If you dont have an osciloscope then use an led test light to see if there is a pulse coming out of the signal wire. It may not provide you with an acurate trace but will provide you with an indication whether or not the sensor is outputting a signal. Should also be a reference voltage at the signal wire from the instrument cluster that is grounded and open circuited to provide the cluster with the square wave pattern required. I had a problem witha 2003 transit at work the other day where someone had transplanted an injected 5l v8 engine into it. Unfortunately for him the BCM provided a reference voltage to power up the sensor and provide a reference voltage. The fix to get it working again was to fit the standard sensor and constructed a dc to dc power supply and simple voltage divider circuit to provide a reference voltage. This method I found was More compatible with ecu and transmission controll pulse rates that a uiniversal induction sensor or tapping into existing vehicle speed sensor signals from abs etc. This in turn restored speed signal to the ecu and then by consequence corrected transmission shift problems or more acurately the lack of.

0-90ohm fuel sender to xf (volatge) gauge PROJECT

Hi, new here guys but this would be verry handy for my project. I have an xd falcon utility and have instaled a 5l v8 out of a eb falcon including the 4 speed btr automatic. To save clutter, mucking around and complication I have installed a fuel tank with built in pump out of a 98 xh falcon utility and of course I have the same probem as everybody else with converting the system to accept a resistance type sender unit. My sender unit measures outside the range specified in the above schematic being 2.2 ohms empty to 180 ohms full. I guess I could change the trim pot value to increase the operating range. How does the 7805 regulator go dropping the 12 - 14v down the 5v heat wize, its a fairly big drop. I had a thought to build a simple voltage divider using a 5v reg and the sender unit personally. Interesting use of the ic in the circuit. Have enjoyed electronics as a hobby for a long time but did not delve into the ic side of things that much. Not trying to steal the thunder from the previous bloes design cause it seems verry plausible solution, I have come up with my own design.
