    GEAR VENDORS OVERDRIVE UNITS

No thats a higher gearing, and it would use more fuel cos it has to lug against the gear to move the car. Higher the number lower the gearing. That high a gearing would work if the car was doing 160kph but as the max is 110 it will make it labour.

    GEAR VENDORS OVERDRIVE UNITS

Spending $4000 to save $4 per trip is not economical thinking, just saying. That said my old 2v XD ESP was awesome on the hwy and used less fuel than my BIL's Fairlane as my combo was in it's working range on the hwy. Mine had a decent hyd cam 650DP on a dual plane manifold good ignition exhaust 650 and stuff 2500 convertor C4 and 3.45 gears. His was a similar engine combo with FMX stock convertor and 2.75 gears. I'd put money on modern EFI cars save more fuel thru tune than OD's and them GV units are more for blokes who want to take some stress of serious engine's in between tracks than fuel savings as there still not hwy tuned as such. Back in the day most people used them GV units behind petrol powered large American pick up's towing horse floats race cars in massive enclosed trailers and such as they were geared as work horse's not hwy cruisers till EFI and standard OD's came along.Trucks now days are Diesel's or turbo Diesel's though and it's all different again as Diesel's are a much better platform for towing with.

    84DA vs 86DA

Hatchy killed a Hemi or 2 via the cam walking and chewing the drive gear to end up with no oil pressure. The fix on a Hemi is bolt thru the timing case.

    84DA vs 86DA

No they will not wear the camshaft. But as Dean has stated he had no luck with one where as I have had no failures ever when using 1.Its been one of bains of a xflow for years. Swap a dizzy or camshaft on 1 and your odd's on to start eating dizzy gears and you can guess where that metal is going. But when I used a hardened gear all the issues stopped as it did with heap's of others.

    84DA vs 86DA

Did you fit a hardened gear to it though ? If it's a different dizzy or cam to the engine from what it came out of the factory with it will wear.Seen it too many times.Timing gear has nothing to do with chewing gears it was more to do with later blocks were made with dizzy drive alignment issues as standard and as soon as one component in the chain was changed you start wearing dizzy gears like crazy. Can be fixed for $50 with a hardened dizzy gear from Crow.

    84DA vs 86DA

You have fitted a hardened gear to the dizzy yes ? 84DA run a single seal but it's smaller than the 86DA

Maybe you could start a thread with all your stuff in it and what you have done Dave ? Daves racing dyno exploits and then people could check it out. Pics and vids needed though. Back to original programming...how are you going to do the exhaust on the car anyway ? Will it go to the back or end near the diff? I reckon mine would benefit from dropping the exhaust based on weight saving ( twin 2.5" FFS ) but don't know the car would like a short a exhaust as such ? Maybe I could fit a single 3.5" small body muffler to the end of the collector to tone noise and not sacrifice power? Seems to work for some more serious drag guys in muffler classes. Whats your plans unless you don't want to let too much out of the bag so to speak?

EBAY 140 amp alternators for XF

This where I'm a little stuck in mine has a large 100mm pully to stop throwing belts, which it now doesn't do thanks Mr ATI and Mezire but by fitting the larger pulley I reduce the output of the ALT again. So I have a 85 amp ALT turning a 35mm bigger pulley and under normal driving its fine but start stop heat cycles and turning the car on and off non stop in between races in the staging lanes builds heat, doesn't allow ALT to charge battery and draws on the battery. Think I'll go back to the stock pulley and see how it goe's with the new set up.

    what diff to use

First things first,is yours a sedan or ute? If sedan you need a sedan tailshaft if ute you need a wagon or ute tailshaft. 2nd the tail shaft will fit in your C4...I use a XH ute tail shaft as it's steel which TBH is a better option over the alloy units if you are planning on racing it.

    Engine Labs: ATI Performance Dampers

EDIT...apologies everyone and Mixalis. I clearly mis read this post last night. Yes I was drunk. So anyway yes only a few of us use the ATI unit and yes there are a few rules to follow. Some bore the balancer to suit the xflow as its a tight bore interferance fit balancer as sold. Other like to pre heat and install the unit.2 trains of thought here but TBH either way works fine in service regardless of what is said about it. Cost...alot. But people need to stop basing costs on what lesser makes are worth and what it is worth to your car and needs. Fast and reliable costs money and TBH they look so stout which brings it's own level of pride and happiness over stock POS. Serviceability...The inner may or may not need to be replaced in time but you can buy em. The rings should be replaced on bigger HP cars more often but TBH they will most likley see out most engine combo's LOL. Set up is a case of running the car up on moderate RPM on initial start up to bed and balance the unit to suit your engine and yes you will be able to tell when it's done. I seriously (Mossy and Jase can vouch for this) can tell my car is a touch quieter and smoother @ idle with the solid flex plate and ATI balancer. It doe's make a difference to how your engine performs. So should you get 1? If you want to go xflow fast and will give the engine a hard time absolutely. It is certainly a key in the fast xflow make up.

But need to test it basic like before I move to crank trigger, cyl timing, spray, trans brake and so on. Still a while away from close but getting there. Competition is good for the breed bro.ATM Im at the bottom but loving every second of if cos it's out there doing it anyway. You will be there soon enough...
