  1. My XG ignition barrel is stuffed, and the XG at the wreckers has had it's one pulled already.

I want to take the gauge cluster from a EB fairmont and was just wondering if I can use it's ignition also?

Or if any other model is compatible?

I don't need to worry about the smartlock as it's disabled thanks to a J3 chip.

    Thanks guys.

    Jay.

  2. I've just pulled a column shift auto out of my XF, if you need anything let me know mate, otherwise it'll probably get scrapped.

I won't use any of it in the future, I'm not a fan of them at all, so I'll only charge postage for any of it, except the box and bellhousing (column bells have the extra bit for the linkages to bolt on), box is a recently serviced Borgy 51 series.

  3. CT12's they are, only good for about 10-12 psi before the ceramic impellers shatter and go through the block, so I reckon they'll be ideal for the ute, the Soarer deserves a nice big single though, them JZ motors are built for big boost.

  4. I just got back from our local wreckers, been avoiding them after they jacked the price up 3 times on some hoses I got from them a little while back (because he didn't realize how intricate the hose actually was... Damn euro cars!) .

Anywayz, they have a 88 EA Falcon wagon with a factory fitted T5 and it still has the crossmember in it, can anyone confirm if this will fit my 88 XF ute?

It's the right shape looking from under the side, but as the cars sitting on flat tyres, and I'm out bush so snakes are a bit of a concern, I couldn't see if the width was right.

Fella said I can take it for $44 so I'm hoping I've scored myself another little bargain.

Appreciate any info that anyone can give to shed a bit of light on the subject.

    Thanks guys.

    Jay

  5. Definanlty bud!

I'm actually thinking of using the old EB head sitting in my shed to fab up a turbo manifold in my spare time.

I'd like to set up a simple low boost setup on the XF after I've got it all bolted up and running, which will mean I'll need to step up to a stage 3 chip to get it tuned properly.

That probably won't be till around the end of the year.

I might throw some pics up today when I prep the ECU and install the chip, just to show how easy they are to install. As I was a little baffled by the whole chipping process, felt a bit silly when I saw how easy it actually is though. Lol

The chip I got has had smartlock disabled and had XR6 maps installed, so it should make a little improvement and be suitable for a few basic mods (extractors, CAI and a XR6 cam) before I'd need to upgrade.

  6. Dunno bout pioneer bud, but I tell ya I'm pretty stoked!

The smartlock and the dodgy XG ignition was really worrying me, not anymore though...

And I got a neat TI Performance sticker for the back window, should look good when I get my OzFalcon stickers for it too.

I'm pretty happy with the way it's all starting to come together now.

Just gotta start getting all this wiring installed but I'm hoping that shouldn't be too difficult with the dash and everything being installed too.

I'll try get some good pics of the wiring as I go, someone might find it helpful in the future.

  7. Hi Jason, just wanted to thank you for helping me out with my J3 chip and your excellent customer service, the chip arrived today and looks to be of fantastic quality.

Also cheers for the TI performance sticker.

I'll proudly display it on my ute!

I'll have some pics or video of the old girl when she's up and running.

I will definantly use your company again in the future.

    Cheers mate.

    Jay.

  8. Found a fella that will do mod plates in Brisbane, but he quoted me $150 for inspection, then $60 for each code he puts on.

Does this sound a little too pricey to anyone else, I ask because $140 is the highest I've seen anyone pay, and others were saying that was too much...

  9. That sounds simple, I'll give it a go.

Thinking I might wire the XF ign in just to test that it turns over and all that, then find a new one to put in properly.

Was kinda thinking of stashing the XF barrel under the dash somewhere and use a start button on the dash.

But that's just a thought at the mo.

  10. Sorry mate, I saw the bit that said it "suits cars with no or few modifications" and thought maybe you gave them just a quick tweak.

All good, I understand you need to put more time into them now.

So you think the XR tune would help a bit?

I only ask as I'm putting an XG driveline into my XF on a bit of a tight budget at the mo, so I'd like to get the chip that will suit my car best, but don't want to pay more for something I can do without. And I'm hoping the XR tune will support a few more basic mods before I'd need to step up to a stage 2.

This whole chipping ECU's is still a little foreign to me, so sorry for all the questions.

Appreciate your time and help mate.

    Thanks.

    Jay.

  11. Hi mate,

I'm going to order a "stage 1" J3 chip for my XF with XG driveline conversion to disable the smartlock.

I was just curious if it's possible to have it tweaked to perform a bit better than stock (only has exhaust done so far)?

Also, I have a manual ECU that came with the XG, but I'm unsure of its condition.

If I order the J3 chip programmed for manual, can I swap the chip into a EB ECU I have and it will perform exactly like it will in the XG ECU (incase the XG one is stuffed)?

Appreciate any help or advice you can give.

    Thanks for your time.

    Jay

  12. An ED barrel should go in shouldn't it?

I didn't think anything from ford would be that cheap! Lol

And how do I take the ignition off the column, it looks like it uses one of those break-away bolts?

(You know the ones where the bolt head snaps off when it's torqued up)

  13. Started sorting through the looms today, worked out what is what, and roughly where it belongs. Couple of wires appear to have been cut, and I've found what looks to be a 8 pin plug that's been smashed into 4 pins, so there's a little bit of work ahead...

  14. Thanks for that nos2.

Well I'll do my best to keep ya informed gerg, I'll be pulling the crossflow out and dropping in the 4 litre in about a week, maybe 2.

Just tryin to find someone that will mod plate it before I begin stripping everything out for the swap.

Engine, box and diff are almost ready to go...
