  1. Hey bam,

I would think "it cant be done"?

Assuming its on a 4.1 crossy, as you know the water pump pulley is in there

and if you run a short belt the pulley is gonna fowl on the top of the belt.

Is it a standard 4.1 with air and steer your chasing a belt for?

  2. I'm having the same dilemma with the fuel hoses.

I was hoping I could just use the steel lines that was already in place, and swap the hoses for EFI compatible ones. But I'm now thinking of replacing the whole lot (or maybe just the return line) for rubber lines mounted in the standard locations.

Haven't figured out how to mount them yet, I'll work that out once I definantly know which way I'm going with the lines...

    Mounting clips.

You can get these at REPCO, super cheap, Auto 1 etc etc

made by Narva. Pipe/cable support clamps

    part number 56480

Use your steel tube for the fuel feed and buy EFI hose for the return line.

Mount them with the above clips.

    they look like

  3. maybe move them out a bit and see if it fills the gap more, it looks like they're recessed a bit too much

Yeah id tend to agree here, looking at the passenger side head light it appears not to sit with the grill properly?

Perhaps the bonnet is out of whack and not sitting correctly either?

If it was mine, id find genuine XF Head lights (gonna be hard but do-able and expensive) and if the reflectors are crap

id swap the guts over from the after market into the original ford units and presto.

You mite remember, that what i did with mine, still haven't fitted them yet but they do look the goods.

  4. Thanks Steve - I just got back onto this project this week after a shed clean up - did you use a surge tank or a lift pump?

Or do you just have the 044 installed in the fuel line?

Yeah just use the 044 in the fuel line.

I had a EFI specialist build the fuel system for goldie. The business owner had an old EK Holden ute with

late model V6 running gear and he just used the 044 on his to run it so he did the same with mine.

Seems to work ok. I reckon the wagon fuel tank would be a pretty basic set up, im not sure why i didn't opt for it

but i did think about it.

  5. I have never heard of the pre crossy's being referd to as a 'log motor'.

You maybe thinking of a 'long motor'? Thats the engine with the cylinder heard and maybe some acc's

The 'short motor' being the engine with out the cylinder head.

The log manifold would be the EFI manifold you find on XG/EB/ED Falcon, thats what i know as 'the log manifold'

The EF/EL/AU etc have the BBM or broad band manifold as their EFI.

    Hope this helps.

  6. I have then in, and got to say I'm happy as a dog with two dicks.

I ended up with two the same, or both have the part number for-500/140. I then made an enquiry with King springs in Oz, they said it's all ok.

Ok, turns out mine are the same. Mine get fitted in about 3 weeks time along with a bunch of other stuff.

Did you re-use your old U bolts or buy new ones?

Im gonna buy new ones, prolly these

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/47806-Nolathane-Bush-Kit-Ford-Falcon-XD-ZJ-LTD-FC-79-82-Spring-u-bolts-R-/231115336136?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35cf8c29c8&_uhb=1

Just curious will they be long enough?

Im sure they will be but just double checking.

  7. The thing you have be careful of is getting a hold of headers that work with gt40p's as they relocated the spark plugs and alot of headers are made to suit early head also need to be wary of the left hand starter

I think Colin had a custom header made for that side of the starter for his when he had his conversion done, he said (and i could be wrong)

it was the only way around it?

  8. Because i can and want too, it'll see the track and other events when ever i get the chance but It'll primarily be a fun toy. Its a Hobby and i could find a million other things to spend my money on but i enjoy cars, i know i'll lose money on it but thats not what its about. i'm not a fan of new cars to many problems, can never do things to em as simply as older cars to many technologies get in the road lol

I hope you remember 'your title' of this subject?

You asked for feedback and when you got it, you dont like what is said

Thats what i read into it.......

I wont harp on about reality, sounds like you wouldn't listen anyway  ;)

  9. Where you gona use that sort of HP?

Even if you get 400HP Thats nothing to sneeze at.

You only using this on the street (means trouble)

    or the track?

The street means a quick 5 second blast down the highway till you have to back off, all that coin

you spend building this motor, 5k+ for a 5 second thrill

you may as well buy a XR6 with a turbo already fitted for this sort of stuff

you could buy a good one for under 10k and have a sexy lookin car.

Turbo engines are so over rated.  ;)

  10. Im gonna say "No"

    But....

If you disconnect the wiring plug and swap out the entire lock off the column then you will need

    to re-coed the new ignition.

  11. Here's an idea i thought about trying when i was building Goldie's fuel system.

Originally i was gonna get some of the boot floor cut out and replace it with a fuel

tank from a EF/EL station wagon, that way i kept the spare wheel well and got to run

the EFI pump. I never ended up going that way i just now use a Bosch 044 external pump

    but food for thought.

  12. narh, the earth strap bolt wont need silastic. If it already has it id say "the thread is damaged and somebody has used silastic on it to assist

in it tightening it up", done that one myself in the past.

    See how it goes.

  13. And dont for get head bolt number 14, being on the outside of the cylinder head, where the earth strap connects to,

ive seen people forget it and try and lever the head off to no avail, then realize and go 'oh, there's another bolt'...

Funny as. I kid you not.

The pipe that connects to the exhaust manifold and goes to the EGR valve, prolly gona be a biatch to?

Id start now with some WD 40 on it and let it soak in.

  14. Hoping someone can CONFIRM the handbrake issue, some people say no, some say yes but cant find a definate answer

I been waiting for that answer to cav.

EF/EL run a single hand brake cable and when i fitted the EF Station wagon diff in project goldie you may remember

i also used the lever type hand brake to tho of cause i wanted that feature.

So those who use the EF/EL DIFF in their falcons or Fairlanes and still use the 'umbrella type' lever i yet to see pics

or read info on what they did to make it work.

Do the ED/NC use a single solid brake rotor like whats used on EF/EL?

    or are they ventilated?

  15. When you're earthing it out using the second PIN, earth it out three times within the five seconds from turning the key to ACC.

Seems that little piece of information is missed out by everyone. They all say hit the demister 3 times but say nothing about earthing it out three times!!!

So its not as simple as what this guy claims in this video?

  16. Ive got a grey XF crash pad with no cracks hanging in my back shed, has been for about 3 years.

All yours for $50 which will buy me 1 litre of Southern comfort from Dan Murphy's  :)

Let me no if you want pics and ill get some when i come home from work tomoz.

  17. Thats cool. When i went looking for mine (not that i wanted brown) bigcav was a big help here aswell.

I mentioned it on the old forum and he posted a link to some and presto i bought them.

I looked in my local Clark rubber store first and they had it to but the online price was a tad cheaper for the same

stuff so i just got it instead.

  18. Stuff at clark rubber is prolly the same as what rares had or has anyway.

Door rubbers on ebay, i bought some from a seller and the quater window seals, surley you will get on evil bay to?

Replace the whole door rubber, no need for glueing.
