steering column plastics problem due to boss kit
steve mcqueen replied to EgoXF's topic in Interior and Car Audio
I had a similar looking boss kit on a steer wheel (wood grain) on Nana and i had to adopt the standard XF blinker cancel mechanism on the end of it to cancel my blinker and to fill the gap/void it had. From memory i had to file some of the plastic blinker surround away so it would fit and work properly. It did and i had no probs. I guess you have done this to? (cant find the steering wheel at the mo to get a pic) -
How did you get that in there, does the boot lid on the corty open up further?

Gearbox change
steve mcqueen replied to Troy Christopher Quigley's topic in Transmission and Differential
Yeah, but you would have to find the correct bell housing for the gearbox. Just do a cable set up. Find a complete set up in another car and rip everything out and put it back into your machine. -
Nana has an EB diff glenn and it dont like 14's on the rear, the wheels wont turn with 14's.

Well there you go. All the X series Fords ive had i clearly didn't pay attention to the wheels it had. I thought the 4 spoke wheel was only released from XD to XE. Then the XF was released with the S pack style wheel regardless of hub cap or not. But apparently its not the case. Just to confuse abit more, i thought EA to ED had a 15'' rim as the 14'' doesn't clear the rear brake calliper?

Ok, so i borrowed a pic from google, Looks like a 86-87 XF Falcon poverty pack. If i could pull the hub cap off it, what would the wheel look like?

Autotecnica sports steering wheels
steve mcqueen replied to steve mcqueen's topic in Interior and Car Audio
Ok, for those playing at home. I bought one of these from Autotecnica and glad i did, what a beauty. I couldn't decide on either a 4 spoke or 3 spoke so ended up with this one. Quality feels good and looks great. Just have to fit it to the car now, all in good time. -
Hey team. Any body had issues with this brand steering wheel? Been looking at some of their twirlers and some look really good and their price's are good as well. So Just wanted to get some feed back before I go ahead with a purchase. Good, Bad or other wise. Please tell.

Autotecnica sports steering wheels
steve mcqueen replied to steve mcqueen's topic in Interior and Car Audio
Thanks guys. I had my eyes on a Momo but at nearly $300 with out a boss kit I was a little hesitant. Looking at the Autotecnica brand some of their wheels are wolf whistle so just wanting to inguage what other thought. -
I would have thought XG were the same as XF polson? I love the XF Girlock brakes, they pull you up great for a car that is over 20 years old. If I were you, id get your calipers kitted out. Just had a quick look on evil bay and found calipers ready to buy starting at around $250, just another option. If yours are almost stuffed, they might just get away with a good degrease, wash and new pads? Worth a shot, and stick some bendix or REPCO thermo quiets in the front. Don't scrimp on the front. This is where most braking is done. The rears, you can go abit cheaper.

Great work guys. Like the mention of the sticky bitumen crap and the front belts, I guess Ford thought it was a good idea at the time. Just a waste of belts, ive come across this prob a few times.

I fixed a mates BA over xmas with some spray glue at the front, Its fooked, you never saw the roof lining in the X series fall apart but this late model stuff, whole different story.

The tank has a small tap on it, turn it off then crank the engine over till the LPG line is empty, should be good to go now. Yeah buy a good running carby, perhaps a member here has one they don't need and would off load? Tho, I would prefer to see running on a car first.
-
XF webber carby kit, $70. I sold one at work a couple of weeks ago. It is not a kit to be treated as light home work no sir re. The XF carby kit is a complex set of gaskets, needles, ball bearings and jets and then some. For me, id but a good running carby instead. If its been running on LPG for a long time the carby has all dried out, LPG is tuff on them, on any fuel system for that matter. Make sure you turn the LPG bottle off before you go stuffing about with it, like a BBQ bottle, its the same.

Id be more impressed if I could see the results of the items in this clip a couple of days after they have dried. Also show us removing the paint, scratching it up with a piece of 36 grade paper just to prove "its an actual painting process" Whats the stuff coming from the spray gun at the beginning of the clip? They painting the water with ???? and why. I see this maybe getting bigger in the future, good for painting custom bikes and what not but right now, I don't think it has a huge market. What prep goes into this? To many questions un answered for a 14 minute vid clip.

Id have to say no. The foam is so light weight and had a glue holding it in place. Id say it was put in place to perhaps "stop the trim hitting the glass in the event it got out of shape"? Ive just looked at one ive got out there, well its missing half of it and that's the best id come up with. If you wanted to replace it I reckon you could run a bead of silicon down it and let it really dry out before fitting back on your car.
-
Ive never replaced the foam in mine and never had issues. Its the thinnest strip of foam just on the inside. What it does, is beyond me so never worried about it.

I would have thought the texture on the engine block would have been enough to just paint straight on after cleaning and degreasing? 1. degrease. 2. wash away the degreaser with suds 3. dry 4 paint.

You can also use EB Falcon engine mounts on your engine, they bolt to the block and the existing XF engine mount plates (I did this with my 4 litre conversion) I used an XD accelerator cable just tweeked it a tiny bit on the hole where it clips on to the TB on the EF efi. I used the XG sway bar. (to clear the sump) and I used a Bosch 044 external fuel pump with a return line to the tank. All went into an XD conversion. XF would be the same. Being a speedway car where do you run the radiator? I also used the header tank from the EF in my conversion and relocated the battery to the boot. Throw some pics up of this bad boy and your conversion, many of us would love to see it.

XD wiring harness adaptor
steve mcqueen replied to XTREME KARTS XF's topic in Interior and Car Audio
Hey Thom, great answer. Mark, this is what I would do to. -
Yeah I had an old steelie jambed on a front hub one time on an XF, I jacked it up and from the back of the wheel whist sitting on my bum, kicked the shite out of it then turned it 180 and kicked it some more, it aventually come off. Kick and turn kick and turn, seemed to work on the front.

Glenns right, a lot of cops no what should and shouldn't be and even if they have their doubts they just defect you anyway so either way your wallet is screwed. Just stick with a stock healthy AU motor and conversion, get it engineered and happy motoring. I know other's might disagree on the engineers but......
