  1. I gotta agree with Ando, Change it for the longer track, 2.92 to start.  I'd put 100 on it, but thats half me pension after the new Emporer Ming changes. haha

Fark you Barnett, West Australia hates you too.

I havent raced speedway. (Well once, mechanics race, I flew off the side of the track after hitting a patch of rock and got the horses arse trophy....... but I was 16..... lol) . I pit crewed mostly, and drank all their beer. hehe

I just find the topic interesting. There is no point in taking an engine past its max torque revs... you won't go any faster, just makes the motor work too hard.

I have taken much faster cars than mine off the mark, just by having the correct gearing.

  2. Thats one of THE cleanest original Cortinas I've seen in years mate, nice find. Sorry about ya old girl, but sure the New Hottness will get ya smiling again.

  3. Don't worry mate, I'm only jealous. In WA soon you'll need a Mod plate to put a friggin sticker on ya back window. hahaha.

We can't even have different sized tyres front and rear, everything needs an engineers certificate, it's a joke.

Yet people are allowed to drive unsafe shit heaps on the road..... which is more dangerous?????

At least we care about our cars.

Oh, and they paint Hobbits white in NZ, stick a reflector on their forehead and use them as the little white guide posts on the side of the roads.

  4. Hmmmm...........

Don't do it Bear, he just wants ya car parts...... thats how the New Zealanders get ya in........ "free mods! free mods!" then they strip ya X series for parts , cause they don't have any there. We're onto you NZ.......

  5. We use an electronic tester that tests something in the fluid, fucked if i can remember what it is! LOL  When the red light comes on it's time to change that shit!

Its measuring the moisture content , you can also use a multimeter. It's not as accurate as some tests , but accurate enough.

The greater the voltage, the more moisture in it.

Thats basically it cause I can't be arsed writing it all........ haha.

  6. But this seems abnormally high, a good few inches higher than the brake peddle. I'm reasonably used to it now as it's been like this a while, would be nicer to shift if it was a little lower that's all :).

New cable and clutch when installed.

Its normal mate, when the clutch is set up ya supposed to grab the cable at the fire wall and pull on it until the clutch pedal just hits the rubber stop and lock it in there. There should be NO free play between the pedal and the rubber stop(Ford Factory Workshop Manual).

I also found having it adjusted down too low had me clunking in 5th comingh off the clutch. You'll get used to it =) .

  7. Heya Mate, my T5 has a high clutch pedal in the XG, I have had it adjusted lower to sit level with the brake, but that means your grabbing clutch too early on lift off.

I think they do sit a little higher than the brake pedal normally anyway. Mine always has.

My advice , learn to shift with a higher pedal. =)  , could try a new clutch cable if yours is old..... maybe stretched.

  8. Heya Clevo, I would maybe look at the O2 sensor (HEGO sensor).... if it's reading lean it will richen the mixture up....so maybe there is a good starting point.

AU injectors......., they are 1 or 2 pound higher than the XG ones, with a wider spray pattern. Might be worth a look, look same as stock ones.

I think playing with the coolant temp sensor may be possible, will richen mixture if too cold , but you will need a seperate way to tell engine temp, and is a possibility the ECU may try to go into LIMP mode if the coolant temp is too low while you run it as normal or put excessive load on it.

Yeah was good weekend mate, besides the chick on Albany highway just as we got into town who opened her door right in front of the ute....didn't even look.

Luckily my cat like reflexes saved the day and one almost squashed scrubber.

Weather was crap, even colder and wetter than normal Albany weather, slept in the ute in freezing cold with me 50kg rotti as a hot water bottle... hehehe.

Cool , yeah love to catch up.

Also if ya up this way, always welcome to pop in and see me in Donnybrook. We have apples, a pub , even an Auto Pro store...... hehehe.

Nothing like the big smoke in Albany though..... they had Hungry Jacks....

  9. Heya Clevo =) , No such thing as a stupid question... =)

......was down your way on the weekend for the Moutain Bike Downhill race, mate from Italy came 44th out of 90 entrants.... not bad for a guy hasn't been on a bike for 6 months and smokes like a chimney..... lol . He had an awesome stack on the car jump though..... hehehe. Met his Idol, world champ Sam Hill, so he was stoked.

Ok, mate I gotta fly soon to get me brakes sorted......AGAIN, but this is basically it.

There is only a piggyback chip like a J3 that will allow you to manipulate changes to normal ECU functions, but will not actually let you change the ECU, it's like an interface that stores tunes/ adjustments.

Stock ECU parameters are fixed pretty much at factory. It's a learning ECU and will make adjustments on the fly to suit conditions/driving style.

Ok, so it works like this...... the engines timing, fuel injection and adjustments to ratios are all made from the ECU after it reads from the sensors, eg. The air pressure sensor in the manifold, the throttle position switch and the engine coolant sensor.......

On the exhaust side you have the O2 sensor, which feeds back info to the ECU on how rich/lean it is running so the ECU can adjust the fuel injector rate to the right mixture.

There is also other sensors, but thats a basic run down.

All sensors can be tricked if all they look at is resistance.

If you want I can give you the resistance ranges for any of the sensors, have them all in my workshop manuals, I just don't have time right at this second...

If you want to get RIGHT into it, there is a guy in Welshpool ....EFI Auto Parts..... this guy repairs ECU's, there is nothing he don't know about them.

If its for stock sedan speedway, pretty sure modified ECU is a no no, has to run stock unit.

XR6 ECU has a slightly different set up to the stock ECU and you can't tell them apart, except for the number on them.

I would see what the rules are on Piggyback ECU's..... because you still run the stock ECU..... just tell em its for ease of tuning..... hehehe

  10. If you want it more to the drivers side, just mount the shifter lever on the other side of where it is now, Thats what they did in XG utes to bring the stick closer to the driver.

Other than that mate or one off another model, I have seen shift kits with an adjustable shift lever position, about 300 bucks from memory.

  11. Pretty easy dude, just take the sender assembly out of the tank (screws on top of tank) , remove assembly.... being careful NOT to bend the arm on float or damage anything, then remove old pump, fit up new pump and drop back in .... done.
