1. Here are the shocks that will suit XG Outbacks and Long reach models.

They are Monroe Gas Magnum TDT.
Front 16-0101
Rear 160207

As stated earlier, Fronts are just standard XG. 10mm less travel than Outback spec, which I'm assured is fine.
Look very similar to original shocks.

Rears have longer travel than standard XG at 495mm.

These are a heavier duty shock than Monroe GT gas to suit harsher roads the Outback was built for. Front shocks include shaft dust boots.

2. Does the spare XG Outback, still have the original shock absorbers in it?
Could you remove them for pics, to add into this thread?
Yes, the shocks in the spare Outback look original Dave.
I'm not pulling them out just to put up some pics.... and then I'd have to put them back in. They are plain black.
I have already crawled around under her to supply the original shock part numbers off them for this thread.

Sorry mate, but I think you forget I have a back injury and am on a disability pension. I really struggle to do anything on the ute.
It's going to be a big enough job for me just to fit the new magnums up to Big Red when they get here, I'm only doing that because I can't afford to pay someone else to do it.

3. Outback Jack, I found some old pics of NOS HD Motorcraft shock absorbers...
They might be handy to have in this thread?

Not sure if they're the same as the XG Outbacks, or just for XF/XG Country Pack optioned vehicles?

Every lil bit helps Dave. :)
Wasn't even aware Motorcraft did shocks.
I'm not sure on the Country pack option for XF/XG. It might just be h/duty shocks and no change in ride height.

Those fronts even at standard height would be fine, but its the rears in the Outback that are 295mm compressed and extended are 495mm.
When I pull the GT gas out in a couple of weeks, I will get the part numbers and measure the compressed and extended lengths. Think they will be standard length , not Outback spec knowing the slackers who supplied them.

Like the country pack, the Outbacks just needed heavy duty shocks to cope with the rougher roads.

4. Cheers Dave,

The valving info for the original T.V.E.

shocks is no longer available, have been discontinued for a long time now.

Those old original part no's came from the rears on my spares Outback and an original set of fronts I had stashed away from my Red Outback.

I have decided I am going to try out the Monroe Gas Magnum TDT's on my Outback.

I managed to get a really good price on them at $520 for all 4 corners, delivered.

I will put them to the test on the bumpy, lumpy roads out here.

5. A few people with XG Outbacks will probably be looking for new shocks at some stage, this info will save you some time finding replacements.
Thanks to Troy at Monroe Australia sales for the great info and service. Champ!

The Original XG Outback shocks are:
Front- Monroe T.V.E. 848-18045 AA
Rear- Monroe T.V.E. 848-18080 AA

They were a Monroe Magnum shock.
These part numbers/shocks no longer exist.

New replacements are:

Monroe Gas Magnum TDT

Fronts are same as all XG front shocks.
They are 10mm shorter in travel than original Outback spec which Monroe says is OK.
Rears are longer and NOT standard height XG shock.

FRONT SHOCKS.
Part no. 16-0101..
, which is now obsolete but you can still buy these online.
The new model is not available at the time I wrote this, but new part no is 331036MM.
Compressed and Extended lengths, measured from base plate to base of top stud where first washer sits, are:
Compressed: 230mm
Extended: 355mm

REAR SHOCKS.
Part no. 16-0207
Current part number, plenty of stock.
Compressed and Extended lengths,
measured from base of each stud where first washer sits, are:
Compressed: 296mm
Extended: 496mm

This info will help people get the appropriate heavy duty shocks for their Outbacks from Monroe or use the specs to size up replacement Koni , Bilsteins or coil overs.

Hope this helps some peeps.

6. el computer wont run in xg without a MAF sensor unless somehow the j3 has changed this.

XG's run a MAP sensor.

put a multimeter set in ohms on pins 4 and 5 of the ignition module CONNECTOR, not the dizzy side.

1. Is the top one.

The resistance should be 0.4-0.5v.

If not, replace coil.

Also you can place a link between pin 5 of the TFI module and the connector pin 5. With ignition on ON , it should read 0 .

If not replace tfi module.

Hope that helps.

7. Cool, see how you go.

Think of it this way, it ran fine before, so you just need to fix chewed wiring.

Only thing could stop both fuel pumps is the fuel pump relay.

You fixed the other two relays in the kick panel, and still have no fuel pumps, so must be that.If petrol guage is switching between tanks ok, will be that.

8. Hey demmo, those wiring diagrahms you wanted are here on the site. Either in my ute thread or one of the threads I made on it. I cant upload again, my phone wont do it...poxy phone.

I think you may of fried the fuel pump relay, that gets the signal from ecu to prime pumps. That would explain the no priming. Hopefully its just that.

Remember yours is xh and mine xg, so wiring diagrahms may not help from my manual. On the xg the fuel pump relay is on the drivers side on the body near the brake fluid resi. If the wiring shorted its possible that fried.

Hope that helps.

Jack.

9. Hehe.... sucks doesnt it.
I've done it too mate.
Seen as you got the head off you can at least get to it.
If it was soft enough.. and you had enough sticking out... could try hitting the edge till it folds in on itself... but you cant lever against a soft alloy head like you can on a cast one.
That method is messy and if you miss hit.... not good.... but I have done it on a clevo in desperation.

10. Lol. Thats a doozy.
Soak in wd40 for a day.....
Then clean it up and try and 'sleeve' a piece of bar in there. ...one that just fits... not hammer it in... will kill threads..
Then put a layer of arildite on it ... feed it in... let set.
Next day put multi grips on bar and hopefully twists out....

But thats a doozy... you snap that or pre snapped for you? Lol

11. Yes he has..... mwahahaha!!!!!!!!!
There are still heaps of 'bits' to come to do everything. ... and I made a few mistakes.... ordered a couple wrong bits.... I was brain dead after all the searching for bits.

The RPM window switched yellow wire is going to be my manually switched wire for my nos safety circuit, when turned on the switched wire can give a ground to fuel and nos solenoids making them active between my set rpm 3000-5500rpm.
Then the yellow grounding wire will go through a pressure switch for the fuel rail and the wot micro switch, so its all chained.
All conditions are met or no nos....
No nos bad.....
Fuel pressure should be ok now with new punps coming. .... lets hope...

12. Does anyone know if aeroflow will do a fitting that pushes onto an in tank hard line and goes to a 5/16 hose barb?

Because I think I ordered submersible hose and fittings for it in 5/16 instead of the smaller hardline size..... Grrrrr... Lil help?  Please!

Don't know much about these fandangled fittings.... Cheers.

Jack.

13. NOS system scored a heater.....

Not bloody cheap..... but its no average heater...

Its a pressure regulated heater...

Not a thermostat blanket.

Keeps nos at 950-1050 psi....

Makes for a better use of nos and cleaner burn......

7b2daff68388feec597076c2a4c93e97.jpg

I think I also need a NOS filter for before solenoid and a wideband afr + guage...... geebus.....

The more reading I do.... the more it costs me. Tapped now.... have to wait. Information is not power.... its expensive..... hehe.

Jack.

14. Ok... After having a good think about the fuel system.

Most of my problems are pick up related... And the in tank pumps me.

I can correct the electrical stuff up front but down back is in for a change. ....

So now here's new fuel system.....

2 x Aeroflow pumps in billet holder.

2 x 3" x 8" Hydramats + magnets.

1m submersible Efi fuel line.

2 x Non return valves.

Going to jack into the fuel pump wiring with external pumps and run them under the tank cover. Leaves it reversable and went two pumps because on a positive lift fuel tank switching system its easier than one.

Going to cost me but it's about time I stopped just replacing pumps because they suck air all the time.... Time to get serious.

Die   die . Die . Fuel gremlins!

15. Lol. Trust me... Said in haste.. I just drive it on the highway 🛣  and its all forgotten and forgiven.

I love the Outback... But when the fuel system goes bonkers..... Grrrrrr.....

XG rage.... Oh well... Good excuse to upgrade....

I was looking at external Bosch 044, no pumps in tanks and two 3"  x 8"  Hydramat fuel pick ups ( magnetically attached) on the bottoms of the tanks, attached to hoses to where the fuel pumps used to attach...using the standard switching system.. Unless that becomes a problem... Then I'll replace that.... Hehe....hehe....

Out back fuel system make Jack go something... something.....

16. This is how the purge hooks up..... and basically how I will set it up...
To purge the air and gaseous n2o out of the line before the nitrous solenoid... meaning the only air in the line is from the nos solenoid to motor. .......
It can also be used to vent nos and look cool like a ricer... but its actually to make the hit of nos stronger and faster.

My rough mock up....bfd096972fa6aa3ac73c66bacd475124.jpg10c6f41c7bfcbd7b46309e7b2833da92.jpg

17. The first of the parts arrive.....

NX Purge System.

I think this thread sealant is teflon for fittings.... not the AN ones... they go in dry.... hehe... for naughty gas.

Oh... going to seal this up a bit..... think you'll agree... it's a lovely spot for a spot of NOS....

Tell ya thr truth Bear... saw a sweet as xd ute with 351 and twin tanks.. just wish I had the cash... 94,000km.

Motor fresh. Looks tidy as. 8K.

Is what I REALLY want but just wrong timing.

I'd part with the Outback to get that.... as long as the numbers matched. Shits me..... lol

20. what's the "parts ute" condition? paint it red, stick on some outback stickers? AU engine ? no rego required perhaps(for testing obviously)
Parts ute is just that... parts for Outback.
I reakon I could snavel a nice barra motor to get firewood and go to town.... a hack... so to speak.
Just cost me oil, filter, rego, tyres.
Dont like to hassle peeps on a Monday......more a Tuesday thing....
Hehe.

21. I have been thinking lately of getting a second car.... rego will suck but just something to drive round if I want to do something to the Outback, like give it a Birthday.

I was asked if I wanted a ute from Albany a while back.. will see if its still up for grabs..... think its a BA tray back...had a couple easy fixed probs... coil pack and intake suckin air.
Bit ratty but regoed I think.
If engine is ok may be new nos toy.

I have the option of buying a cheap e series xr8 ( 2.5K) but the barra 6 does it for me and I can get better economy and probably more power for same price. Also seen a few ba/bf xr6 models I might like as a daily.
Nos barra?

I just have the nasty feeling that I might accidently lunch the outback motor. ... and its all matching numbers. Not that I havent taken precautions set up wise.... but one bad mistake.... bye bye motor.

I'll ring about the ute today.

Jack.
