    Would like Opinions on Build

    Looking at rebuilding the old EFI crossflow in a ZK Fairlane that I have acquired and would like some opinions and advice on the build, the engine will be running straight LPG and is intended for a cruiser and highway, so I'm looking for decent bottom end and mid range. I have come up with the following idea 4.1 litre bored 60 thou 10.5:1 comp ratio Head reco'd + valve grind and valve seat job Full balance, block decked High volume oil pump Camtech CT142 517(A) 218 IN/EX@50 thou duration EFI manifold IMPCO 225 mixer, B2 convertor Factory dizzy kitted up with an MSD ignition system BW40 auto with standard convertor 2.92 or 3.23 BW diff I welcome all opinions and Idea's

    Has anybody got any information on the 260X stroker kits that XRGlen from the Hotsixes forum as developing? It looks like it could be a pretty sweet setup but all the info on that forum is over a year old and I don't have any contact details for XRGlen to find out more.

    Need a cam recommendation

    Im in the process of building up an LPG 4.1 for an old EFI ZK fairlane I have acquired and would like some advice on cam specs and mixer sizes, the car will be a cruiser and just a bit of fun, I was thinking of the following setup. Impco 225 bolted to the EFI manifold, ditching all of the crummy old EFI gear and going straight gas. The bottom end will be balanced and bored 60 thou, comp ratio will be 10:1, pacemaker header and a dual 2.5in system based on the EB XR6 series1 setup, dizzy will be regraphed or if I can score on a TFI dizzy kitted up with an MSD setup will be used. Im not sure of the came specs or a suitable converter but I was think of a B2 for the converter and the following cams Camtech CT142 503B-110(A) 208 DEG@.050 OR Camtech CT142 517(A) 218 DEG@.050 I have heard that the impco 225 isn't much chop for top end power but will give decent torque in the lower and mid range when used with the EFI manifold, has anyone had any experience with this setup. The car will retain the 3 speed auto but I am going to change the diff to a 3.23:1 ratio for a bit more pep. Can any one recommend an LPG specialist in Wagga Wagga NSW. Any infor would be greatly apprecieated.

    cool, thanks for the info guys. I didnt know that about the oil pump, the last couple of clevo's i had built had a high volume oil pump so I just assume that it was the go. Sly I have a couple of other cams in mind as well ,CT-503B 110(A) (208 DEG @50 thou) and a Crow 14776 (204in/214ex @50 thou) what do you think? The 6AL2 was what I had in mind, I have heard good things about them. Ando, as for the balance, well I do drive my cars pretty hard at times so all the rotating bits are going to be balanced to ensure reliabiliy, do you think a line hone would be neccasary?

    Oh can anyone tell me if Pod filters with out an airbox is legal in NSW, I saw some pics of Perky's setup and it looks pretty sweet and simple, just not sure about the filter that's all.

    rpm range for the 110(A) is from 1400 to 5000 so I would imagine it should be could to at least 4500 rpm maybe higher, the 517(A) cam that I had in my iron head was from 1800 to 5000 and pulled pretty good up 4500-4700 rpm, the engine would rev out to 5300rpm with a impco 425 no worries. I think the 110(A) is reasonable step up from the stock cam while improving bottom end and mid range torque, the 517(A) is only slightly bigger and it was a pleasant cam for driveability. Really just wanna find out if anyone has tried cams of these specs with the 225 mixer. I would like to thank Perky for his help, he's been awesome for providing me with his cam specs and a few pics of his setup, his cam with is a crow 14776, if I recall is a dual pattern cam 204 deg in and 214 deg ex @50 thou is probably a wee bit smaller than the 110(A).

    XC Fairmont 4.1 crossflow Cheap power upgrade ??

    When I first got my XC I did the Holley carb and exhaust upgrade to the old iron head six, it made a reasonable change but you would really want to look at a cam upgrade as the factory cam is pathetic, changing the dizzy to an electric setup helps quite a bit too, u can use the points dizzy as a trigger and install an MSD setup for some nice gains. Before switching to straight gas I had the old crossflow up to 88kw's at the wheels using the following specs 350 Holley on a redline 2 barrel manifold with a 2 inch spacer Pacemaker extractors into a 2.5in system crow 14221 cam (which I found was a bit smallish but miles better than the factory cam) regraphed XE electric dizzy comp ratio bumped up to approx. 9.5:1 running on Pulp 98 It was a pretty nice setup still a bit mild but miles better than the stock setup, the bottom end was stock and only the springs were upgraded in the head. If you have a bit of coin I would really consider going for an alloy head unit with a carb/cam/exhaust upgrade, much lighter, better on fuel and more potential to make power than the Iron head six OR U could go for an Orion engine out of an FG with a cold air intake upgrade, exhaust upgrade and a flash tune, my FG XR6 make 173 rwkws and has even surprised a few VE SS owners...especially once I started to pull away from them.

    sounds good Perky, I ran the 218 cam in my XC with a 425 Impco on a 4bbl manifold and it was pretty strong in the upper rev range, but was pretty doughy round town but that probably had more to do with the stock auto and diff than anything. I'm looking for some strong bottom end and mid range, I have no interest in flying to the moon in an old fairlane, that's what I got my FG for , the XC probably could make orbit as well, ran that old girl off the clock more than a few times.

    that's what i'm looking for something that delivers good bottom end and mid range, something for light to light rather than down a drag strip or race track and will give good economy out on the highway
