Is it possible to get a late model SOHC motor passed in NSW with a carb instead of efi in a pre july 1976 falcon? I have two SOHC motors here in my shed, one from a 93 XG and the other from a 2002 AU XR6 VCT, and I have a ton of carby bits and pieces and even an old CFI manifold from an EA 3.9litre. Would make an interesting engine mixing and matching bit but using a carb instead to simplify the installation in to an old pre ADR27A car. Everyones thoughts and opinions welcome.

Legalities of a Carb fed SOHC motor in pre ADR27A cars

It would be interesting to see how one would go with a 4 barrel Holley sniper 2 setup on it, surely it'd be able to pass emissions testing and give better performance to the factory efi. It'd be easier to wire up as well I reckon. Would look old school as well. -

I'd imagine given the breathing capabilities of the late model head, that a 600 cfm or bigger carb would be the go on an Aussiespeed manifold. I have pondered how a a side draught carb or two, would go on a factory manifold, if it'd behave like a tunnel ram does. Dizzy side of things would be easy enougth to do, just use the XG dizzy in the AU block, with a CDI module. For my VCT engine I'd just lock the cam and get a bumpy profiled cam fitted. Surey it'd have to make similar power and torque to the factory EFI with poorer cruise economy, but have a whole lot less wiring and headaches to figure out. Just alcohol fueled ponderings.... -

It' would be interesting to see how a SOHC would go with a decent 4 barrel and electronic dizzy. Just pondering ideas with all the bits that I have laying around. It would be something a bit different to the usual stuff. -
Hi Guys, I recently picked up a very clean low kay (76000km's) XB falcon 500 sedan and I'm looking at putting some decent wheels on her to give her the look she deserves, it currently has the stock 14in wheels with 205 rubber and looks pretty ordinary, for some strange reason the arse end has been lowered 1 inch with lowering blocks which I intend to get rid of...I hate those damn things. I'm not intending to lower the arse end as they sit pretty low from stock, but I'll knock an inch out of the front to bring things more in line. I need to find out if the wheels and tyres I'm looking at will fit under the arse end without having to roll the guards. I wanna fit B45's or V5's in 15x8 on the front with 245 tyres and 15x10 with 265 or 275 rubber on the bum. Will these fit the sedan? I have seen plenty of XB's with 10's on the bum in the past but never really bothered to look at the actual fitment.

Damn Days of thunder.....now I wanna color the rims black and turn the XB into a Nascar....

The current spec of the 2v I have sitting in the shed is 30 thou over 250 with a Speco 214@50 thou cam, the head has been cleaned up with over sized valves. Its been Balanced as far as I aware. I have both the factory 2V and an Aussie 4V manifold to suit the head and pacemaker headers which will go into the dual 2.5 inch system the car already has. I'm gunna get an electric dizzy and use a Streetfire module with it. I'm not sure what to do about the induction side so Im open to any ideas. I have thought about triples, it would be about the same cost as going efi, but would looks absolutly tits.

I must be getting old, sorta over V8's and the current exhaust sounds like a v8 so no point doing it just for the sound...hahaha Gunna go 2v 250, I've got all the decals and badging to suit as well, maybe one day I'm might get hold of a clevo and drop in it. Right now just want to get the XB's straight line performance close to my G6 (which is 228rwkw's according to Tunehouse racings dyno.). I'd be over the moon if I can get the XB to nudge a 13...

Been digging through my shed and I found a Thermoquad of a XC 302, im pretty sure it was a manual it has the part number TQ 9091S on it. Has anyone ever tried one of these on a 4.1litre? I'd imagine the stock 302 jetting wouldnt be far off what would be needed for a worked 250. I remember Blue 253's having a quadrajet on them and they went pretty good with those. Would a 250 respond the same? I've seen plenty of holley 600's on 4.1's and they work pretty good, surely a TQ with its smaller primaries would be more economical at cruise and the secondaries would on flow as much as what the engine could use given the air flap restricting airflow to them. Anybody given this a crack?

Hmmm given the low inlet flow rates of the log head (145cfm with porting) it'd be pretty low powered anyway I think. Custom manifold on the 2v head would work a lot better, but it'd be cheaper to do a triple dcoe weber style efi setup with that. Hmmm can always dream of stupid but cool things ford six related.

https://www.efihardware.com/products/2883/Pro-Race-Mazda-20B-ITB-Kit-with-130160-Spacing Ditch the manifold and run a custom fuel log, this could be bolted to a tri power style log head. I wonder if a Haltech could be programmed to run the middle injector at low and medium throttle and the kick the other 2 in at wide open throttle, just like how the carb setup works.

That is awesome, going to look into that one for sure

Hmmm maybe just plug up the middle hole and run 2 of them similar to the old Holden 179 X2 red motor with the twin strombergs. Could poke a pair of 5 inch chrome aircleaners out of the bonnet like a tunnel ram.

Would be a very interesting setup indeed...guess I'd have be a guinea pig for this sort of setup.

I reckon it'd be fine with a 250hp 4.1 litre, I doubt it'd go past the 300lb torque limit. Not overly fussed, it's only a temp box to save me from the 3 speed...I really dont understand what people where thinking when they invented column shift manuals...
-
define "fair amount of power"? would it handle 250hp and maybe 400nm NA or 350hp and 500nm+ with a turbo? I'm not planning on drag racing the car or anything like that but it may get the odd back road run every now and then....wayyyy to many coppers out this way to be silly buggers.

I measured up the input shaft its the 6 cylinder one 167mm, the V8 one would of been 20mm longer if I remember correctly. Doesnt really matter at the end of the day...a T5 is a T5, it'll break once I put some power through it....wish I could be as certain on winning lotto.
-
According to goggles that number correspondes with a Non World Class mustang T5....confusing Pretty sure its to box that'll only take 300lb's of torque...better be gentle with it

Pretty sure the first gear is 3.25, the ute was effortless in smoking the rears in 1st or 2nd and first ran out wayyyy to quick. I could be wrong but I think the XG longreach had a 3.25 as the first gear...I'd have to find the service manual to check.
-
I'd have to climb back under the car to take a pic, but i've measured the input shaft and its only 167mm so pretty sure the box is a six cylinder one, maybe the extension housing is from a v8, thats what i took the number from. Its marked 0552-0662903. Once I clean the rest of the box I'll see what numbers are on the the main housing. I do know the box has a lot less kays than the rest of the car. It'll do until my funds start to recover and I can get a TKX in to it
-
it's a 3.27 and yes it's out of an XG. I'm trying to figure out what the T5 was from as the ute originally had a 4spd auto in it and was converted to a T5 about 10 years ago by Dellow's. The number that I have found indicated that the box is from an EB2 V8, but thats just from a google search, gunna have to drown the poor thing in degreaser to find the rest of the id numbers on it.

this one pulls pretty good down low, it runs out of breath after 130km/h but still is pulling ok, havent had it flat out but I reckon it might hit 150ish if the road was long enough. Around town the 3 on a tree lets it down, first is useless above 20 and you spend most of your time swapping 2nd and third, I can't wait to get the 5 speed in it, still collecting parts to do the job properly.

Thanks, been looking for a colour code 5 deep aqua XB for 28 years...after I crashed the v8 futura that I had as a stoopid stoopid teenager. Wife finally let me get one, she's only a 250, but as we all know they can be made to go real hard. the Vinyl roof has slight damage on the driver side near the chrome trim, so I'm weighing up wether to remove it and get the turret cleaned up or fork over and redo the vinyl.
