  1. going to get hold of a degree wheel  and do it properly. just had straight up to get it out of my little no power single garage. got it to work today so it can stay there for a bit. watched a couple of youtube vids on how to use them so all going well i'll stay after work tomorrow and get it done.


  2. Still not running 100% might take it somewhere for a tune. If ya put your foot down at 100ks in top gear it still pops through the carb. But a least its mobile now.


  3. turns out timing was just knocked way out. got it going and took it for a spin around the block. Smoking back left  disc brake when I got back. woops. something else to fix turns out they don't like having the handbrake on for a couple of months. goes and sounds good apart from that. got a vid on my phone just not sure how to upload it here.


  4. Think im going to have to rip the engine out and take it to a shop. Got everything back together. It started pretty easy did the run in with all the right stuff and it sounded mint. Turned it off and let it cool down. Next day drained the run in oil and changed oil and filter. now it wont start. it just about wants to start on a couple of cylinders just pops and bangs and smoke coming out rocker cover breather. Should have just forked out the dosh and got the shop to do a full rebuild.


  5. Putting the top end of my 302 clevo back together. New DEH265 cam, timing gear, lifters. Heads have been redone. When fitting the cam does it need to be advanced or can I just top dead centre it?

    Turns out the stage two one was a deh275 he just told me that one as he just sold one to a guy with a 351. Went with the 265


  7. Not to anybody else, but, to you who will drool over it, drive it with pride and know you have the cleanest, toughest car on your street.........Priceless  :D   

    That's for sure. Cant remember the last time I seen a decent xseries down here. They've all been used by the boys for piss wagons or chopped up for stock cars


  8. How old is your timing set? If it's old or the,factory setup using nylon tooth gears it would be worthwhile changing (and a performance gain on it's own, from xc on the factory timing set changed the cam timing for emissions reasons but also hurt power on a big way the easiest fix is to replace the timing set with a rollmaster set)

    Was going to replace it at the same time, its coming off so might as well do it.


  9. Ok saving my pennies at the mo. Want to get a panel and paint on the xe ghia. I want it redone in the factory gun metal grey. How many thousands would I expect to have to pay. I will of course stip out the trim and what ever else needs taken off eg windows ect.

    Redoing the motor at the moment .. was unexpected..    so its not helping with the funds.


  10. Yep Bottom of NZ. Only ever replaced a head gasket, done water pumps and a timing chain once. Ive never done a cam so I guess ill just research up on it and give it a go.


  11. went on the comp cams site and typed in 265deh. Whats the difference between them all or are they for different makes. whats the 302 Cleveland part number for these. Cheers guys


  12. Just done up the heads on my 302c no porting or anything just new valves, seats, guides, springs etc.  Don't know anything about cams and need some options. Its got a 570 street avenger carb, performer intake. 2v closed chamber heads. headers with twin pipes two cobys and an H pipe. Going to replace cam, lifters and timing gear. Its got a c4 and the  factory diff it used to be a manual 6cyl efi xe ghia.

    Its just a weekend car not an everyday driver, something to put a smile on my face after driving my shitty diesel bighorn all week.


  13. Sweet new cam and lifters it is then. Its a 302  edelbrock performer intake, 570 street avenger carb, Headers with  twin pipes and H pipe. 2 cobys. 2v closed chamber heads just done up. C4 auto. Still got the factory diff in it was an efi 6cly  manual ghia. no idea what sort of cam to get as I know nothing about them. Its just a weekend car for putting a smile on the face.


  14. the thing is ,push rods bend from over revving or trying to make the motor rev harder,when it should,

     

    with the cam the lifter run constantly,on the cam, and the push rods sit in the lifter, then the rocker sits on top of that

     

    1 if the cam lobes are worn you will get slapping on the bottom of the lifter causing this to wear the bottom of the lifter to go egg shaped ,then in turn instead of the push rod moving in a smooth action it in turn is being slapped up to the underside of the rocker ,thus causing them to bend!  

    I pulled each lifter out one at a time and inspected them then put them back in the same hole. They all appeared flat and smooth.


  15. Did you find the bent pushrod ??  (Roll them on a benchtop)

    you went that far and never did the cam and lifters, did you pull the cam and get it checked?

    never replaced a cam before. thought id just do the stuff I knew how to do. did it with it still in the car. looks like it might have to come out now and I might have to learn some new stuff.
