Nope I couldn't get mine to work, tried a low mileage cruise unit which is in perfect condition no avail. Noticed they were different from my original one so I put the cable from the new one on my old one. Tried swapping ECU's behind the trip computer but no success. Still no idea why it won't even show me a sign of it working, literally nothing happens when I press the set button.

I'm having an issue with my trip computer... the "stop lamp" warning comes on when I brake. I've checked the dash loom earth under the left kick panel and its fine, checked the wiring behind the trip computer and it looks like it was tampered with however I wired it back up to original standards (my guess they tried to fix the warning??) green and red wires were stuffed with. I also put a new cable from the battery to the engine earthing point. I have 3 trip computers, all of them do the same thing. The newest one I got didn't display the logo for a while then after a week or so it came back. The rear globe holders don't have any rust either, they look clean. Starting to think it might be the brake light switch on the pedal? Where does that actually earth?? I have two brake light wiring looms from two switches. I think one is for the trailer however I disconnected it and just closed the wires with tape. Really starting to get frustrated now!! Anyone who can shed light on the subject would be greatly appreciated!! Cheers, Alex.

Sounds like you have a very used trip computer, the ones I have seem to only have the fault of losing the date every now and again and the warning lamp displaying. The brake lights work no problems though. Glad you fixed it with what you have! I wish I found someone who could actually repair these trip computers fully. Cheers, Alex.

Hi mate yours has 4 rows because it is a high series trip computer like mine with the extra functionality like DTE etc etc. The one in nigel's post is just the standard base model trip computer. I ended up removing the globe in mine on the best trip computer I own and haven't had a problem for about 2 years now. The date and time even holds everytime I leave the car. Some people complain about that problem as well.

I have a friend who bought this high end stuff and it is very good. But personally I can get the same finish using the right polishes such as my favourite meguiars. It's all in your technique and skill with the buffer and applying the polishes!

Its the pipe that goes from the aircon compressor, under the airbox, over the rocker cover and into the tx valve yes! It has the felt wrapped around it unlike an xe one. Really want some aircon haha its warming up now

Hey guys, Getting to summer now I wanted to sort out the aircon in my XF. One of the hoses has a leak so the aircon only works for a short period of time. Anybody know a good place in melbourne I can get these pipes repaired? Can't seem to find more better ones then the ones in the car. Regards, Alex.

It's the pipe which is directly under the airbox and out the compressor. It is wrapped in some fibre material. If you knew a NOS one that would be superb! If you want a photo I will try and grab one over the weekend

I've changed the cruise control computer (I have two) and the little red light is on when I hit the brakes and it flickers when I turn the cruise on. Starting to think its the cruise control pod. Not sure what else it could be it's just annoying!

I have done some further investigation to the cruise control issue. The later 86 cruise modulators are different from the 1985 ones. The 1985 ones have an earth wire coming directly from the vaccum case to be earthed on the body. The newer ones have the earth connection within the plug loom which plugs into the engine loom. The 1985 doesn't have the earth source in the loom hence why the later model cruise wasn't working. So what I did was grab the throttle cable from my original modulator and transferred it over to the original cruise control modulator that came with the car. Checked the brake lights and they work fine and power gets directed to the cruise ecu no problem. The modulator earth is earthing just fine to the bracket as I've tested it with a multimeter. Still nothing is happening and I have no idea what it could be. Were these vacuum modulators prone to failing? Is there any way of checking whether it works? Could it also be my actual throttle cable being too new and tight? It's a brand new one which is nice and tight in terms of pedal. Even if I press set on the cruise control not even a sign of the cruise working happens.

They do work however I had to remove the trip computer bulb for the warning, when I pressed the brakes the warning would light up which was annoying. I really want to get the cruise going now

George it's because your trip comp is unplugged and the power gets directed through it for the blown globe warning, as mentioned by others you need to bridge the two green/red wires at the trip computer connector and it should fix your problem.

If anyone is interested in a water based tyre shine, Wax IT sells a great tyre shine totally water based which can be sprayed on whitewalls and standard tyres. It gives a nice matt shine.

Hey mate, the way I restored mine was got the aftermarket bodies and put the original ford glass on them. They look as good as original and light up really great.

I would say you would have to bolt on a carby setup from an EA for it to work. The CFPI setup I think it's called.

I presume you are referring to the vacuum tank? A vacuum tank's purpose is to assist vacuum operated components like heater etc... I'm sure there is a better meaning somewhere this is just my understanding.

If you had one of the rare spare hinges you could probably make them up if you had a good lathe?

Mate speak to Ben at trimmaster, he does have ESP reproduction trim and compared to NOS you wouldn't know the difference. He really specialises in this stuff. When I was there he showed me his XF panel van with bench seats trimmed in ESP material and it looked shmick.

Not normal as far as I'm aware, sounds to me like a bad earth somewhere.
