    Crossflow Build Advice

Relax guys, everyone's got slightly different stuff that they find works. Funnily enough I have been looking into some coilovers - mustang ones though, if they're not too expensive. Still not sure what I'm gonna do with the rear... maybe just some new leaf springs. Wouldn't make it a dedicated drag car I was just curious - won't a stock BF Typhoon run high 12s-low 13s? Those aren't exactly slow. There's always the option of configuring it for boost later on if I want to. Gearbox wise, I'll just use the T5 till it blows up then look for a Single Rail. Aussiespeed manifold on the way, looking for a good Holley in Sydney now. Will order the cam soon.

Gonna play devils advocate here and ask what I can do to bring the build into the 12s... Not that I have any plans, just curious what it'd take.

T5s are cheap but I see the problem... What would the alternative be?

Horses for courses I guess guys. Realistically unless I drive like a proper P plater all the time I can't see it spending huge amounts of time above 4500 on the way to work... In the end I chose the 4 barrel though because with that manifold I have options to change to something bigger later on if I decide to do more work on it. Besides that, it's gonna see a bit of track anyway so it makes sense to pay some attention to the top end figures. I'm sure either one will light up street tyres anyway so I can't see a small difference in 60ft time on drag slicks really mattering that much at the end of the day, I guess all that it changes is the amount of smoke coming from the rear end if I launch it at the lights

Food for thought there cheers guys. Was planning on getting a good condition second hand one. I've seen a few on gumtree (none in Sydney though ) Would a 600 be a little big for this application though?

465 it is then. Just in case you guys are interested I found a couple of pretty good youtube channels Might not be so useful to you guys but gave me a better understanding of a lot of things.

Should be good enough for me then... I will keep the rest in mind. Think I'll use the 4 barrel though.

Ahk that makes my life easier, thanks guys. Slydog gets the cookie though, he was in first. Regarding the bore - That seems to be the general opinion. I guess the question I'm asking, is if there's anyone here who always makes a point of doing it to their crossies, or if no-one really bothers. I will probably go the 4 barrel, have just been comparing the options. Thanks fellas

So been doing some more research... Had a chance to look at another build similar to what I'm after. Few question marks... Roller rockers a good idea? Scorpion non-adjustable were suggested. Am I really gonna see that much benefit from bore-ing it out 50 thou as opposed to keeping it standard? Is it worth the extra cost and loss of meat on a Crossy? Need to decide on the carb soon - The choice seems to be between a 500 holley or a 465 (based on what a few people are telling me). Either is within budget so it's just a question of which one is better for the application I'm after. I'm not opposed to using an Edelbrock but unless it's gonna be heaps better I don't really see why it'd justify the extra stuff around. Want to decide soon though as I need to know which manifold to order. Still need to decide on correct piston dish to go with the 49cc head job (Shut up unfamilia ) to fit in with the 10:1-10:5 target... And for bonus points - stupid question of the day. How do I figure out which size bearing kits I need?

For an extra 200 odd bucks I may as well get the good one... Spent more than that on alcohol last weekend so can't really get stingy with go faster bits. I'm leaning towards a 465 Holley unless anyone else has some suggestions. Has the added bonus that my old man has a fair bit of experience with them apparently and can help me set it up right.

I'll keep that in mind... I will go the 4 barrel then. Will probably still stick with the Aussiespeed unless someone has a better suggestion. 465 is starting to sound like the go. Out of curiosity would there be any advantage of using a carb with a mechanical over a vac secondary?

Just ordered the timing set then, same place you recommended in WA. Can't argue with it if it's on the ute Ando . Wanted an Aussiespeed originally anyway, only considered Redline since I saw a couple of cheap ones. I think it's about time to make a final decision on which Cam and Carb I'm using. Want to have all of it ordered by Monday. If no-one has a better suggestion for a cam than the current one (which I've seen recommended a few times around the place...) then that's the one I'll order. http://www.camtechcams.com.au/ford_6cyl_xflow_hyd.html Looking at a build Slydog posted a few pages back - Similar cam specs with a 600 holley. In fact that entire build is pretty similar to what I came up with in the end...

Sweet, thanks. Now, just need to figure out whether I'm getting the 4 barrel manifold or not. I've pretty much thrown any notion of fuel economy out of the window anyway.

Also - timing set. Free postage from perth. 90 bucks. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ROLLMASTER-JP5974-TIMING-GEAR-SET-FORD-6CYL-200-250-3-3-4-1EFI-/321559545501?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4ade71469d Was this the one everyone was talking about? Seems like a different part number than the one from highperformance world. If that's no bueno I'll just give that place Slydog suggested a call.

Camtech CT142 528(a) - 230 degrees @ 50 thou cam 10:1 Compression Rest of the build is up there already... Just making sure I don't drop 250 bucks on a 4 barrel manifold for someone to turn around and tell me I'll over-carb it and to run a 2 barrel carb next week. I found a 2 Barrel Redline Torker in melbourne for 125 + 10 bucks or something postage if that's the case. But if I want the 4 barrel one I need to decide soon. Either one is less than I'd budgeted for a manifold originally anyway.

Good enough for me then. Will buy it. Still, not exactly sure which carb is going on there yet - 465 Holley, 525 Demon, 44mm Weber IDF have all been suggested so far...

3 more hrs left on that auction... Better decide soon. I take it you reckon it's worth picking up? Out of curiosity how much better is the aussiespeed one? Head bolts I was gonna order, unless anyone has a particular set they recommend. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FORD-250-200-4-1-3-3-LITRE-CROSSFLOW-CYLINDER-HEAD-BOLT-SET-NASON-NHBS535-/161608036789?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item25a096f1b5 Still looking for a rollermaster timing set.

I'll gladly follow that advice. I prefer to do stuff myself as well if I can... Just wasn't sure I'd be able to do all that. Willing to have a crack at it if it's not impossible though. I'd rather spend the money on tools and do it myself. Don't really have access to a flow bench though.

Sweet! So in regards to head work: Aftermarket springs already fitted Valves are a good size already I'm asking for: 5 angle valve grind Port and Polish Head shave to 49cc (?) Sound about right? Dumb question of the day - am I better off just cleaning it up and giving it to the machinist with everything still on there (valves, lifters etc) or should I take it apart? Turns out work this weekend has been moved to next weekend so I'm off the hook there. Plenty of time to go shopping. Going off what Ando just said does that mean I should look for pistons that go with the planned head shave to 49cc?

    Only took about 5 attempts

    Crossflow Build Advice

Ok no fuckups this time, spilled a little but not more than 2ml. I definately stuffed up before... guess I couldn't see the kero properly. This time I used valve saver. It took one full cup of 40Ml, a refill of 10ml, and another refill of 10ml. That seems about inline with the last 2 attempts. I spilled a tiny bit during one of the hits with the syringe and lost a few drops here and there... So I make that out to be about 58cc give or take a mL. Isn't that what e2 heads were stock? Unleaded EFI were lower comp than all the others right? So if that's the case, what pistons, and how much does the head need to be machined to make 10:1?

    Crossflow Build Advice

Used a DVD cover, greased the outside of the chamber, and valve saver instead of kero. Worked better but I spilled some so it fucked with the result. Got time for one more crack. Looked like it took over 50ml though...

Fucks sake... Why does everything have to be so difficult? Can't get the stupid perspex to sit flat and not let anything out. Running out of time too.
