Why stop at 3, lets see how many I can fit on one manifold...
-
Well we put some red loctite on it. Waiting for it to set now. Not the super retarded strength stuff though. If it fails I might try some metal putty. Other than that I could maybe press in a bigger fitting with the same type of thread as the screw is tapered. Failing that its a new carby.
-
But three times the carby's is three times the hassle... Asked dad if he had some red loctite since everything is shut tomorrow. About to take it over to his place to see if he has a bullshit miracle fix.
-
Loctite, or some kind of silicone, or glue seem to be my options. Whatever it is will need to be fuel resistant.... I still think I absolutely have to be missing something here. I can't have drilled it too wide, as it just barely fits in now but won't hold. I can't have not drilled it wide enough, as it fit nonetheless. It's not threaded. There's nothing on the outside of it keeping pressure to hold it on...
-
At this point I'd settle for a quick fix that'll last a week or two until I can source another carby setup, if I can't get something going that'll work permanently.
-
That was before I stuffed with it, it actually looks a lot smoother now. That's an option, but won't I run into the same problem of that factory plastic plug making it un-tuneable, which means I have to put the new one anyway, which means I have to remove that sleeve... Which means I run into the same issue. The brass plug there is being held in by willpower and hope... There must be something I'm missing as there's no way they'd put out a kit for making the mixture adjustable that doesn't actually work. Loctite was my first thought as well. Problem is, I'm going to be putting a fair bit of pressure on that sleeve when I go to turn the screw to tune it, and that could potentially loosen it a lot couldn't it? Or one day I'll get stuck on the side of the road 50km from home when it finally decides to come loose.

Sounds good. Would jaycar have something like that do you think?
-
That was actually my plan. Maybe around the centre console even. At least that way I don't have to find a way to hide any wiring (as it'll just be behind there).
-
Sounding like a good idea...
-
How/where would you install that?
-
Having the same issue... can't seem to get it off. The back part (near the windscreen) is loose, got all those bolts, but there's something at the front holding it in. Got the one behind the indicator, and the screw holding it in with the bumper, but something's still stuck...

Ahk, thanks. Will have a crack at it when I install the radio which will probably be next weekend or the one after. For now the clock can just be purely for decoration.

Hey guys, so as I get closer to getting this thing registrable I'm trying to think of what else needs to be done. Anyone have any suggestions as to what to replace the old AM radio with? Looks like it's one fixed unit though so rather than messing with it I'm thinking it may be be better to fit a new head unit into the centre console box and leave the old one as is. Also what about speakers? The old ones seem pretty crap, but I don't really want to start cutting holes in the door cards or anything for new ones. Curious to know what others have done with their XDs. Not after anything too obnoxious, just something a bit better than the old AM only radio in it now, without having to start cutting up too much inside the car.

Got it off, had a look behind there and can't see any wiring to connect any type of clock. All the coloured far left ones are for the hazard light switch, The coloured middle ones go up to the radio. No idea what the big black one on the left, or the 2 white ones near it do, or the ones on the far right going up/down. Assuming they're for the fan/a/c/heater or whatever. In any case, there's nothing that remotely looks like it would be for the clock. Unlucky, looks like I'm gonna have to rip all the clock wiring from the ZK.

Did some more investigating tonight. Hooked the old temp gauge up (upside down and minus the backing plate since it wont fit) and it flicks to life fine, but won't give me a reading (car should have been hot, wouldn't move). This temp gauge was working before I pulled it from the old dash. Played with the sender, when I took the wire off, gauge died, put it back, gauge comes alive. Seems everything is fine, it's just not giving me an accurate temp readout (needle won't move from zero). Not sure what the hell is going on with it.

Alluded to this in a couple of different threads, but here goes: Got a Sport Dash for my XD and everything works/went in fine except the temp gauge. Damn thing is dead, won't even flick to life when the key is turned let alone get a reading. Thought a resistor was rooted (black marks on the board, and was loose at the soldering), so I replaced it. Still dead. I have 3 dashes here (only one sport one), and the one I want to use seems to have a different type of plug on the circuit board for where the temp gauge fits on than the other do. This is the one I need to use - notice the prong sticking up on the bottom of the nipple thing (hehe nipple). Neither of those other dashes have that (one from a ZK Fairlane and one from my XD). They look like this instead (two metal pieces, no prong). Here's where it gets weird - Both other temp gauges have a coil where the metal nipple thing plugs on. But the gauge I need to use doesn't - it's missing the bottom one (where the prong seems to go). My guess would be that at some point the coil came out, and instead of putting a new one in someone has put the prong on the circuitboard so it pokes in further and completes the circuit. Problem is, it doesn't work, and I'm thinking it may be what stuffed the last resistor. I'm pretty stuck here, anyone have any ideas how I can fix this?
-
Damn Dave. Hope someone lost their job for that.
-
Haven't gotten around to doing any of the XD interior yet, gonna do it all at once (dash, steering wheel, radio, clock, wiring) when the temp gauge comes back. The fascia is still on, but with what you said I might have a crack at it tomorrow afternoon. Got a feeling that getting this clock wired up is going to be a pain. Been busy trying to rip the fairlane apart. That shelf looks awesome, good idea with the yoga mat. Haven't properly checked but I may be able to use the parcel shelf from the ZK and just cut that up, saves me having to start from scratch if everything fits.
-
Surprised they didn't rivet the wheels on.
-
Finally got the clock from the Fairlane, busted 2 drill bits doing it. Why on earth anyone would want to rivet it in it beyond me. Seems to be the XE version - 4 pins in a line, VDO clock. Haven't been able to get the fascia from my centre console off yet (choke and hazard lights are a pain... Unsure how to get it off), but I can't see any wiring behind there... Uh oh. Am going to rip the entire dash from the ZK this weekend so I can get at the loom to pull the wiring for the clock off.
-
Legend! I'll send you a pm.
-
Pfft why do you even need brakes anyway...
-
Sender is the original... Ill put the old dash back on and see if it works with that, otherwise yeah, new cluster.
-
Will hook into it tomorrow when it's light. With a bit of luck I'll be able to rig the ZK wiring up to it.
