    XD Stock Radio Wires

From memory, on the 3 pin plug: Black was earth One for accessory power One to the light switch for the backlight Can't remember what the other one was. Constant power we got from the main fuse box/main power cable as there was none there. Should have wired up the clock too but we ran out of daylight and it started to rain so that'll have to be another day.
  2. Hey guys just wiring up my new head unit - piggybacking off the old radio wiring (base model no cassette). Need to identify some wires - 3 pin plug to back of radio coming from behind the console. Black - earth? Blue w/ red stripe Blue w/ white stripe Black w/ green stripe If anyone knows off hand what these are that would make life much easier. Cheers!

All sorted thanks guys. Saved by the old man - just did the multimeter trick. None of the wiring diagrams in either of my two manuals were any good. Go figure.

    Budget upgrades for the DIY

I'm all for giving it a crack. Have to figure out a way to block it temporarily though. Will it mess with the engine running temp either way? What's the theory behind it? Just that the intake stays colder or something? Edit: That would make sense when I think about it, if the coolant flows out of the block hot and into the manifold... Just going from memory... The hose from the block to the front of the manifold can just come off and get blocked up... The hose connecting to the T piece from the rear of the manifold I can just bypass by swapping the T piece with a regular connector.

Haven't heard that one before... I'm running on petrol though so I guess that's not applicable in my case.

Was looking into both of these today funnily enough.

    Kill Switches!

Decided to go the auto trans switch. Can someone me know exactly which wire(s) need to be altered? From memory theres a few down there. Having a wiring day with Dad on the weekend.

    Kill Switches!

Hey guys, So the XD is back on the road and it's time to start thing about all the random extra crap that I can do to it. This was one of the first thing's I'd want to do seeing as it has all the anti theft features available in the 80s - steering lock and.... steering lock. I googled it but can't seem to find any specific kits or an exact list of parts. Has anyone got a set-up they recommend? The old man said he could help me wire it up if I get the parts. He recommended one that cuts off the battery, but I'm open to other suggestions.

    XD Odometer

Hey guys, So the odo in my XD doesn't work. Anyone know what usually causes that/any fixes? Im guessing the little gears are frozen. Just wanna know if its a common issue/easy fix before I take the dash apart.

    Duhhhhhhh what's an injector?
  14. On my 3.3 that one was running to nothing... someone had cut it. Not sure if that helps.
  15. Hey guys, So the Stromberg was being a pain and decided to swap it for a Weber from an XF. I've so far managed to use the old accelerator and kickdown cable (changed bracket). About to wire the idle solonoid soon and I'm going to just roll with the old manual choke from the Stromberg. The vacuum lines however, are giving me a bit of a headache. There's a whole bunch of extra ones for the Weber seeing as the XF had a bunch more emissions stuff, and lots of the fittings are in different spots. XF Diagrams are of no use, as half of the stuff on them I don't even have. Basically what I've done, is use the same vacuum setup I had with the Stromberg. There were only 3 lines connected to the Carby, which I'll try to connect to corresponding areas on the Weber. Not sure if this is actually gonna work or just turn into a soup sandwich. If anyone's done a Stromberg to Weber conversion on an XD, or even just has a vac diagram for an XD Weber setup, that would be massively helpful, as the XE-XF ones aren't helping much. Cheers.

    XD Stromberg-Weber Vacuum Lines

That piece of information may solve the mystery then - I'll plumb it to PVS on the thermo housing which runs back to the dizzy.

    XD Stromberg-Weber Vacuum Lines

I also think i'm missing a couple of hoses on the air cleaner - Got the one from the vac motor but I have 2 more connection spots (one inside the damn thing too) and no hoses/idea where they go.

Haha ok... Blocked off!? But Stumps said that one was important!

Looks like the one, what's it connected to? That four plug cross?

    XD Stromberg-Weber Vacuum Lines

Ahk now we're talking. Will check when I get home just getting the idle solonoid sorted atm. I figure ill just connect what I can, plug the rest and see what happens when I run it.

Is that the one from the Distributor? If so, on the XD it was running from the Dist, to the PVS switch on the thermo housing, then to the carb. Not sure exactly what outlet on the carb it's meant to hook onto though.

    Stromberg BX Woes

Emissions laws I think, maybe they did it when they came in. I finally got it in, had to remove a brass piece at the back for the needle to sit fully. I was correct in drilling it out after all. Feels pretty dodgy though, although it doesn't seem to be moving. Not sure how well it will seal/if it'll ever come loose. But I have bigger problems now with this shitty manifold stud breaking...

    Stromberg BX Woes

Hey guys, so I'm in a bit of a bind here. Hoping someone here has done this before and can give me some advice. Tried to tune my carb and realized that the plastic plug was preventing me from adjusting the mixture. Took it and the idle screw out, and replace it with a new screw, spring and brass bush. As you can see, the directions tell me to "remove aluminium plug". Pretty sure it's that sleeve with the lip on it there, as the brass fitting will not make it past that. Took me ages, but I drilled out the aluminium plug by hand so the hole is now wider. Left a bees dick of a lip there (from the aluminium sleeve) to push the plug under which should have hopefully held it in place. It didn't. The brass plug keeps falling out. The directions say remove the aluminium plug which I would assume means the entire thing, but there's even less holding the brass plug in then if that's the case... As you can see in the second photo, the brass plug is not threaded on the outside (just the inside for the screw to sit in) so what exactly is holding it in place? Is it just a case of throw some red loctite on there and put the stupid thing in or what? I have a bad feeling that I'm up shit creek here and I'm going to need a new carb.

    Stromberg BX Woes

No good with the loctite... Problem is, as soon as you start tightening the screw with a bit of pressure (it's a pretty tight fit in the thread) it'll start to turn the bush as well which makes it break free. Doesn't matter what I use, gonna have the same problem. I don't understand how the hell it's supposed to go in then. I've followed the instructions/pictures.... The only thing I can think of that I might have fucked up, is that I wasn't supposed to take that sleeve out. But if that's the case then I wouldn't be able to get the brass bush in anyway - It wouldn't clear the sleeve, and if I start trying to press it or bash it in the thread will be damaged (tried, stopped just before damaging it) seeing as it's only soft brass. I'm so confused... Hey Stumps, can you do me a favour and tell me/take a photo of what the idle mixture screw on that strommy you took apart looks like? My big worry is that if they all came this way factory, I'm going to run into the same problem again when I replace it. Surely there's someone here who's done this before... Otherwise everyone is kicking around with un-tunetable carburetors...
