250 Xflow Water Pump Pulley - non clutch fan version

Recommended Posts

Having a shit of a time tracking down a pulley for a water pump that isn't the viscous hub clutch fan version.

Has anyone:

  1. Modified the clutch fan version to suit? or
  2. Robbed a pulley off another engine that fits? i.e. XD or XE? or
  3. Got a line on a new aftermarket option? I've tried Proflow in NZ but no reply. Also tried Rare spares and online auto parts (where I got the pump) to no avail!

Cheers,

Wade.

i vaguely My Dad modifying one,  but i think he went the other way(bored the hole out bigger for the clutch hub)

XE also had a viscous fan.

the XD and prior are likely similar, and same for clevo might be similar(depending on offset) and possibly windsor. (i remember going through a bunch of pulleys trying some on a V8 once and some were too big (possibly off a 6cyl?) so there's probably heaps of sizes over the years(these could have been anything from XY to XD from my stash, i never marked them)

what is your goal? no clutch fan? or to bolt up a fixed fan?

for the price of a water pump you might be better off going back to the XE XF water pump and cutting the threads off for the fan and using the original pulley?

you can try the 2 Aussie wreckers i would try that might have one otherwise.  rusty ford wreckers (Melbourne Vic Au) http://www.rustyfordwreckers.com.au/ (also on facebook as Luke GT) or rusty ford wreckers

and scotty XDF wreck operates from facebook if he's got it will be cheaper https://www.facebook.com/ScottySuttonsXDFwreck

both would post to NZ i would expect,

Hey @deankdx

I'm running the non-viscous version of the water pump for the rebuild. It's already installed.

My existing donk (and the donor) has the clutch fan version of the water pump despite running an electric fan. It made sense in my mind to avoid the fan thread poking out the front of the pulley, and of course now I have 2 pulleys that don't fit the water pump 🙂

I thought there might be another obvious option that people knew about e.g. perhaps all small block ford pulleys fit and so I might widen the search?

Thanks for those contacts. I've got a lead here in NZ but if it doesn't land I'll get hold of those ones.

there still might be, but it's not well documented if so.

i guess the difference here(Australia) up until now ish, was there were wrecking yards with old junk in them you'd just get an XC XD etc pulley from..(oldest thing in the wreckers these days is probably around 1990 unless there's someone specialising in certain models like i linked above)

there might be reference on say VPW or other speed shops for aftermarket chrome pulleys etc, but you could be looking for a long time.. i would assume there'd be a "chrome pulley kit" for a falcon 6... it would likely say, use XC XD water pump or similar if so.

Pre xflow (xy-xb) or iron head xflow is what you need you need to make sure its similar size to the original one from the car unless you've changed diff gears, ford used different diameter water pump pulleys on cars that had 3.0-2.77 from cars that had 3.23-3.5 to change the water pump speed depending engine rpm at highway speed, taller ratios spin the water pump slower (because the engine rpm is much lower with tall diffs) so the water pump doesn't cavitate due to spinning too fast
