Engine tech tips by a real pro

Recommended Posts

i read all that, and was like where's the next page.

but the gist of it.. correct Me if I'm wrong

  1. make sure the exhaust isn't a restriction.., if it makes more power with a bigger exhaust.. the old one was a restriction. (surprised to not read something saying, smallest diameter that isn't restrictive is the goal... or similar? )
  2. inlet flow potential. basically work out what you want the engine for.. and choose a cam and headwork/compression/intake based on that.

horsepower is a calculation that is derived from RPM.. more revs = more HP.. how high do you want(can you afford) to rev the thing and what for?

if you like cruising on the highway at 1700rpm with a 2.77 diff and T5 in overdrive.. there's no point making an engine that revs to 7000 and is a pig at 3000 surely

Mine revs to 8200 yet drives around at 2000 around town very easy? Sits on 3150 for 100kph thru a 5700 convertor🤷🏼‍♂️

But do relate the above to performance engines. Just it has solid info that is helpful for use on a build.
