XF left indicator playing up

Recommended Posts

I've recently bought an XF wagon. Nothing special, but going over the car when I got it I noticed the front left indicator wasn't working (it was when I inspected it) I replaced the bulb and it's dull and flashing fast. I replaced the rear as well just to be sure. I have also replaced the battery terminals as the negative had a crack, earthed the lead properly to the body, cleaned up any earth I could easily reach, replaced the flasher relay and replaced the bulb housing. It's still dull and flashing fast.

I'm at a loss, any ideas?

Does the side marker flash as well? If there isn't enough load on a flasher can it will blink too fast, easy way to test if it's a light or the flasher is to turn the hazards on, if they blink normally it usually means you have a bulb out or a bad earth

If it has a factory option trailer plug fitted, they usually have resistive bridge terminals in the cap,

to allow for correct flashing, with/without trailer lights.

If the cap terminals are not contacting correctly, it will make the left or right indicators flash fast.
