CHESTNUTXE 7,310 Posted February 15, 2020 This is the first c6 i have ever mucked around with and honestly i was quite surprised how light it was compared to a fmx/cleveland,i always had these idears it weighed heaps more than a fmx as reading in a magazine from the past said ahhh he went from a c4 to a c6 and ran 1 sec slower, what a load of crap even i could lift this thing around the garage and i aint no hulk hogan,i have found out that this is a smal case c6,the rear extension housing and mount bolted straight up to where my crossflow was, very handy indeed, next question is fitting a shifter in my 1992 xf/ea floorpan, as it dont have no transmission hump like xd/xe so you can bolt a t bar c4 style and rock n roll, but the xf has a hump but i dont think its the same top as earlier coons,so i want to buy a lokar shifter 12'' that bolts to the box and problem solved ? there is an instalation video on you tube by american shifters and it looks quite easy to put it together, has anyone used a lokar shifter ??? they seem popular and the same price as a hurst or b and m ect,any idears. deankxf 20,287 Posted February 16, 2020 when My brother fitted the 351/fmx to his XF, he just put a plate across that hump hole and the v8 shifter bolted up on 2 factory holes and 2 in the plate.. only like a 3cm gap or so needs plating from memory 1 CHESTNUTXE reacted to this

gerg 10,871 Posted February 16, 2020 Re: someone claiming they lost a second on the quarter... If true, it was either a pretty sick gearbox or the C6 has a huge amount of internal drag compared to a C4. Otherwise, it's a wild exaggeration in my opinion. CHESTNUTXE 7,310 Posted February 16, 2020 hey should i put some oil in the converter or just fill it up when in the car thru the dipstick ? or really doesnt matter ?
gerg 10,871 Posted February 16, 2020 hey should i put some oil in the converter or just fill it up when in the car thru the dipstick ? or really doesnt matter ?I would fill it by as much as it will take without making a mess. You will only have to fill up more through the dipstick anyway to allow for the converter filling up. SPICER UNI JOINT CAN BE SEEN... good quality.. if its a cruiser, and not a 1/4 mile racer.. i'd fit the stock t bar and plate as above.. as for the rod being same? no idea, i have cut and welded those rods shorter and longer before though when needed. even bent one on BGDAVs F100. do you think this will be quicker than the crossflow over the 1/4 mile? unless it's Pretty angry i'd say it will be on par. @kcuf had a 400c in his centura initially before fitting the LS1 . 1 CHESTNUTXE reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted February 16, 2020 I think the extra cubes alone will get it over the line much quicker, despite the big lump of extra weight being lugged along. If the stall speed is well matched to the power band, and the rear gears are right, this will easily be a 13 second car. gregaust 319 Posted February 17, 2020 As long as there is some oil in converter it will be fine . From memory you said it was a runner. If so i'd not fill it will soon fill as soon as it is started . As for shifter , there are many different levers on a C6 at the case . All depends what you have , it can be tricky to get a factory shifter to line up exactly to the shifter detents . Not impossible but takes some work . The American shifter setup aren't too bad . At least you'd know it will line up right . Those HP figures are a joke . Someone came up with them years ago and honestly they are laughable . Seriously if someone lost a second with a gearbox swap they need more power lol 1 1 bear351c and CHESTNUTXE reacted to this
