What is this Diff out of please.

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys first post please be gentle.........

I have a 1972 XY Falcon Tribute, the Diff that is is there now is Drum Brake.
It must be one of the last diff as it has the mounting brackets for the rear sway bar welded to the housing.

I am fitting a S/Hand LSD Borg Warner diff with Disc Brakes into the car.
Diff Tag Serial Number is.....P/N 78DA-4005-MA Serial #12332. Ratio 2.72.

So my questions are
1. What is this diff out of.
2. What Brake bias problems ....(A) fit what model Master Cyl to fix this but still look the same...(B) fit a Mustang Brake bias Valve unit............Or What else.
3. Hand brake cable difference.........length.

I have measured and this just slips straight in.

And thoughts on any other problems.......
Regards Dave

you may find your answers in this thread ,

but i would say the biggest issue is the XA onwards diffs are slightly wider than an XR -XY diff making the wheel choice a bit harder to judge they fit 6" rims easy, but not sure how wide
78DA is XC onwards, so has the big center bore wheels.. (so XY wheels won't fit)
i'd assume a sway bar was available in 1978, they made drum brake diffs that are almost same right up to 1993

1979 to 1981 XD Fairmont Ghia is probably the easiest for them to look up, all had that diff.

same can be said for the ZJ fairlane of same year or the equiv LTD which is an FC LTD.

XD ghia also had a sway bar standard, which explains a little also.
