Panko 2,480 Posted August 20, 2019 Hi guys, Im picking up my new engine next week, its about 3-4 hours drive home. Whats the best way to transport a 250 crossflow in a trailer? Thanks in advance
2redrovers 21,400 Posted August 20, 2019 Got an old tyre to sit it on? Off the rim, tie it down to each corner of the trailer and check it after going around the first block for movement. I brought an xf motor back from Wonthaggi like that with no problems. 1 deankxf reacted to this
BGDAV 1,873 Posted August 20, 2019 old tyre is the go-to not fuck the sump 1 2redrovers reacted to this
2redrovers 21,400 Posted August 20, 2019 If you don't have a tyre I've got one at the shop you can use, nice wide one I got from envyxf with his old motor.
Panko 2,480 Posted August 20, 2019 Hmm i was going thinking of knocking up a timber frame for it to sit in. But i guess a tyre could work. Just figured coming from Shepperton to melbourne something more secure might be the go
2redrovers 21,400 Posted August 20, 2019 The other way is a frame made from a few bits of angle iron or probably timber could do it too. I had the XB engine on a frame like that.
Panko 2,480 Posted August 20, 2019 I figure i do that i could bolt casters to it at home to store and move it around until i install it
2redrovers 21,400 Posted August 20, 2019 Is it just the engine/block or trans as well?
Panko 2,480 Posted August 20, 2019 Complete engine, no trans
2redrovers 21,400 Posted August 20, 2019 If it had trans you could have borrowed my trolley gizmo, currently has the xf motor on it. Have you got something to work with or want help to knock one up?
Panko 2,480 Posted August 20, 2019 I think i should be ok. We have a left over timber sleeper sitting here i can cut up. I love to make a steel crate/dolly for it. But timber will be faster and easy

deankxf 20,287 Posted August 20, 2019 i've moved heaps of them with the sump bowl sitting in the guts of an old tyre. tie it as Rod said on the second post. tie to alternator bracket, inlet manifold and exhaust manifold. if it's a bare block, you'll be struggling to find things to tie it to.. find some bolts and get something that can bolt to the engine(seat belts i've often used) and tie from them. if it was empty of oil, i'd even lay it on it's side. but if you do that, make sure it's not going to dribble oil from anywhere (onto the road = bad) 1 2redrovers reacted to this

bear351c 10,270 Posted August 21, 2019 I agree with knocking up a trolley, then mount some castors when you get it home. Always a problem having a dead engine in the way...... 1 2redrovers reacted to this
2redrovers 21,400 Posted August 21, 2019 I agree with knocking off a kmart trolley, when you get it home. Always a problem having a dead engine in the way......That's what you meant to say isn't it? 1 bear351c reacted to this
2redrovers 21,400 Posted August 21, 2019 One of those what if moments..Generic car ramp..It looks like it will sit under the sump lip but can't be 100% sure because my engine has a trans attached. It looks good though and makes a cradle easy, just chock up the back end for transport and weld legs on it later. 2 steve mcqueen and gerg reacted to this
wok 205 Posted August 21, 2019 Gday, I have used pallets cut in half and flipped over, I screw 6 cheap solid plastic casters (local tool has them for 3 bucks each) to the underside (technically the pallet top) for once the motor is at home, but agree the old tyre with ratchet straps to all corners of trailer work really well 1 2redrovers reacted to this
