EL GHIA TICKFORD 12/97

do yourself a favor and get a workshop manual before you pull the engine apart, they are a bit more complicated than a xflow or a Cleveland, especially if you've never worked on an ohc engine before, once you've done them a few times the are pretty easy. personally I wouldn't change the timing chain while its apart 95% of the time the tensioner and chain runners will wear out long before the timing chain will
I did the head gasket on my xg before i assume its similar set up

yes i bought it off e bay thinking its better n bigger than my one,but looks like would need the 3 wires changed over cause the pin is different.
I took the grill off to repaint it ,seems taking the surround off is a no go so i will just have to mask it upa96b52f4a62c083a48bf59b2c4d29101.jpg257f601deb60f416a9eb8ca5a186c38f.jpgc7c4bb336552d9e2a3c3090e3bceb66f.jpg

Well...

that hasn't been serviced in 100,000km's. 😮

You may also find the S5 Solenoid is causing the trans to slip.

If the trans is slipping, it can kill the oil pretty fast.

I'd probably do an S5, while you're in there?

(or de-magnetise and ultrasonically clean your existing one, if you have the tools)

Are those woodgrain bits from a Ltd? They look darker, I think they called it walnut burr in the ltds.

I wouldn’t mind adding the woodgrain spears to my Fairmont but I’m really trying not to get too carried away haha.

When I painted my old el grill I removed the black plastic grills as I was doing a colour change. Bit of stuffing round but it came out awesome.

Looking at the picture of your bonnet with the grille removed I never noticed they weren't open there, always thought they had openings there for airflow to the radiator
ef el only take air in from the bottom of the bumper for the radiator, the radiator support panel is closed off at the top

Had a customer tell me once that; that lack of airflow through the grille (and lack of grille on EF) is why EF and EL have head gasket failures but no other Falcon ever had head gasket issues like them...

I let him continue on his way with his bizarre thoughts...

Did you tell him/her that temperature is temperature? The gauge in my EL never reaches even halfway except in summer with the AC blasting. Falcons in this shape were bottom-feeders, with plenty of intake area below the bumper. Even my XE has a tiny grille of only 2 slats, hardly big enough to make a difference. But cooling is not an issue.
