Matt 0 Posted January 2, 2019 I have an XE was original six cylinder car but I transferred a 351 into it and now the Speedo is acting like a tacho just don’t know how to fix it do I need the speed sensor from the six cylinder gearbox Or do I have some wires crossed
deankxf 20,231 Posted January 2, 2019 possibly didn't connect or have a bad earth connection the wiring is same for V8 and 6cyl other than a couple(air con wire slightly longer, choke wire from alternator on 6cyl)
deankxf 20,231 Posted January 2, 2019 what gearbox did you use? you'd need the V8 gear on the 6cyl speedo drive in most cases

C4 auto or FMX use a different gear Correct, But whether any of those boxes are behind a 6, or a 8 makes no difference to the gear in the box, or the gear on the transducer. eg: a single rail out of a V8 will bolt in, and plug up in a 6 cyl car and read correctly as long as the transducer gear is right for the diff ratio. as did the 6 cyl T5 I put behind my missus’s 351, but had to use the XE transducer, which was a 6 cyl one. OP didn’t say which box he is running now, but if it has a later than XE transducer that would make the speedo play up as XE and later have a different plus rate. 1 deankxf reacted to this
