Mulabud 1 Posted September 12, 2018 Own a 89 XF ute. 6, with a 5spd floor shift. Without having someone charge me through the nose to split the box from the donk.. I am getting a crunching when shifting and it wont allow me to change downwards (5 to 4, 4 to 3, 3 to 2). Have checked clutch fork on side of box and seems tight. Question is? Is this the sounds of the box that is gone or is a clutch kit in order..
deankxf 20,231 Posted September 12, 2018 what oil is in the gearbox? it takes transmission fluid, not gearbox oil. if you can select reverse easy when stopped, then i don't think it's clutch related. i would change the oil, transmission fluid most take, but look it up to be sure. Mulabud 1 Posted September 12, 2018 Because there is no dip stick or trannie cooler. Could you give me an idea on how one is to do this check?

deankxf 20,231 Posted September 12, 2018 its done under the car, manual gearboxes don't have coolers or dipsticks. i haven't read this but it looks like it covers it pretty well from the photos.https://www.mustangevolution.com/mustang-articles/how-to-change-your-manual-transmission-fluid/
