im frightend by the price of roller cams for a 302w  ,in the  states the price is not to bad but here OMG.
If I just wanted a nice hop-up without going silly, I'd leave the cam there. The factory specs are actually pretty decent for a silly stocker; lots of numbers bouncing around but 214/210 @ 0.050" is what I can find on the later (post 88) engines. That's what cam companies would class as between a stage 2 or 3 cam in the old days.

If I wanted to chase a bit of power, I'd focus on the heads. A port job/bigger valves or GT40Ps will wake it up, and 1.7 rockers with good valve springs will help too.

Replace the timing set as it's probably worn and might be retarded from factory (Thom?)

You need an Ultrasonic bath, or a hot wash or something
to get all the carbon off.

Currently, I clean carbon off my engine parts with Gasket stripper/carbon clean.
However, I really want to try an Ultrasonic cleaner.

There are some interesting results on youtube.

The rockers are interesting they have a small slot or girdle for the heads and just to confirm maybe vb can vary this the wide slot goes to the oil dripper on the rocker yes ?e58e49cf6fe8ffc912ee842f9a7725f3.jpgc001c1b9508d1331aa3271b787bde5a7.jpg

The grooves form a v shape and should line up over the top of one another. In the engine I did 2 of the pedestals were backwards which made an x shape which didn’t allow enough oil in and chewed them out.

I can’t remember which is which but the exhaust and inlet have different retainers. From memory that one piece does stuck quite badly. Spray it with wd40 while whacking the top of the valve with a plastic face hammer. I have a huckson hammer, I’ve had it for many years and done many many rebuilds with it.

Just my two cents worth, I wouldn’t really bother upgrading the camshaft if you are retaining those heads, the old E7s fall over at around 4000rpm give or take. They are very restrictive, a set of GT40p heads if will be a good improvement, and as Thom said a good set of headers will help too.

Also for a few extra buck get a set of bolt on roller rockers, plenty of suppliers out there for those.

I’m starting a new build...289 windsor, but with a twist.
